How to check individual post numbers on forums?

Especially on the Image Pickin' threads, I'll see someone say something like 6.1 in order to refer to an example in the thread's sixth post. But how do they check that? Do people really just start at the top and count down until they get to post #6? Or is there an easier way to check it that I'm missing?

Mouse over the permanent link (the timestamp). It contains the post number.

Thank you very much! It threw me because I didn't think to check the url data - my life has suddenly become way easier.

We've asked the admins to change things so that post #s are visible again, but that's a low priority fix if it even happens.
