Moderator note: Out of respect for tropers who have not seen the original animated series, please spoiler tag plot twists when necessary.
Yes, this is happening, Netflix is taking the Avatar series and doing a live action series.
Just giving it a glance, it's gonna be a challenge, with the high requirements, especially on the main cast.

I think that might actually help assuming some slower episodes get made/adapted. With such a short timeframe, a lot of the episodes feel a bit weird, very game RPG Take Your Time logic.
I saw the images and lemme just say, I do not look forward to it, and the show should have just been an animated reboot.
Honestly, I would have preferred a Game of Thrones-style Perspective Flip story about the Fire Nation, with the Gaang in supporting background roles.
Tbf I dunno if that would be different as Zuko is the Deuterogonist anyway.
Plus Ozai works because in the original he series he was built up as this dark background threat before showing that he is a Human evil in the last season. Imo the film made a huge misstep making him do so much

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Netflix released some promo pics of the Fire Nation characters ahead of Geeked Week on their social (but I will link to the Polygon article about it
because the website formerly known as Twitter is unfriendly)
(If nothing else I can be assured the costumes will be rich and Paul Sun-hyung Lee will be perfect.)

Scars are always tough in live-action. Especially burn scars, because sometimes in real life they just look like a permanent bad sunburn. I expect we'll get some complaints no matter what his scar looks like. That picture isn't the best because of the lighting, but I think it looks okay.
I'm unreasonably annoyed that Azula doesn't look cruelly amused in the picture, but I'm sure it will be fine.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.By this point, people know who Ozai looks like and know that Azula is a big part of the series. Trying to recapture the mystery and suspense of the original is only going to look and feel like a cheap carbon copy of the original animated series.
The movie was super weird about Ozai, some scenes just casually showed him in full and some of them apparently forgot we'd already seen him and went back to hiding him before his next scene showed him again, rinse and repeat.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI'd love for this searis to be successful, because I want to see Korra get the same treatment. Theres a series that could use a redo. (For the record, I still maintain that while Korra was more uneven in quality then atla, the best episodes of Korra were better than the best episodes of atla)
So far it looks like they might actually pull it of.
You lost!

On the one hand, yes, it's a practical change for live action. On the other: years is a long time, especially to kid who'd regard it as practically forever and wouldn't have the same urgency about it at all.
