Yes, this is happening, Netflix is taking the Avatar series and doing a live action series.
Just giving it a glance, it's gonna be a challenge, with the high requirements, especially on the main cast.

Isn't Utkarsh kinda young for this role or is it an Ability Over Apperance role.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."As Captain Marvel showed, it’s difficult to make an older man move like a younger man (and that’s Bumi’s whole thing). Casting someone sprightly and aging him up seems pragmatic.
The other notable thing about this casting news is that they’ll be more obvious about the Earth Kingdom’s diversity. I recall a lack of South Asian characters (besides maybe Pathik) was a question regarding the original.
ETA: I have just learned that Ambudkar's son's name is Bhumi, which is adorable.

James Sie will reprise his role
as the surprisingly knowledgeable merchant of cabbage.
Well, maybe. It's not officially announced.
Netflix finally remembered it had castings to confirm
.

Randall Duk Kim (he/him; Kung Fu Panda, John Wick) as the voice of Wan Shi Tong: Appears in the form of a giant owl and is also known as the Spirit of Knowledge.
Most were leaked by fan accounts over the summer (don't know why they didn't officially confirm Midthunder while Prey (2022) was making waves), but zomg Takei as Koh?

And Takei was actually in the original series as well, which is pretty neat.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonJust a small update. The director wrote an article about filmmaking
where he discusses the first scene. No big reveal if you've seen the original first episode.
There's also confirmation that principal photography is complete.
Still no clue on a release date.
I recall Netflix did it for 'Sandman'
. Don't see the harm.
Meanwhile, I can only assume they're holding off on not even releasing a single 'first look' image to not get in the way of Avatar: The Way of Water
If I had to guess they are waiting a bit for announcing the release date.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadPromotional photos of the kids
teaser
(that doesn't show much). We got a release...year, of 2024
Already looks ten thousand times better than that other live-action thing that doesn't exist.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonAs best as I can tell... kind of? I think that the actor does genuinely consider themselves to have native heritage (so didn't just knowingly make it up to get the audition/part) BUT there is legitimately a question about whether his claim is "official".
Speaking as a white British dude I am entirely unqualified to comment much further than that.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."These images look... Okay. To be fair they are stills and do give me a bit of hope.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThey can easily do Adaptational Timespan Change. The three months next few months thing isn't imperative in my mind, you can easily make it three years and there's still a time limit and tension that flows from that.

You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midYeah, even Shyamalan changed it so that the comet was coming in a few years. Honestly, not a bad change for a live-action version; it makes Aang traveling the entire world and mastering all four elements more realistic with that timeframe.

This hasn't reached the major trades yet so take with some salt, but Avatar News (which has been accurate about the casting thus far) reports that
Danny Pudi will play the Mechanist and that
Utkarsh Ambudkar will play Bumi.
