In the climax, all hope will be lost as War Machine has scored 0-30, but a squad consisting of Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Godzilla, King Kong, The Monstars, The Harlem Globetrotters, Sub-Zero and Earth’s Greatest Warrior, Charles Barkley will have a Big Damn Heroes moment and score 90 hoops in 2 minutes.
This
, Kong’s here because,,, well, Godzilla’s here and Kong was in the trailers, and why not have two Kaiju play basketball together?

SKREEEEEEEONK!Ok. Why Sub-Zero.
All the others (I think, not sure about King Kong) have been involved in basket ball obviously, or a basket ball commercial.
So Subby's the odd man out, unless he has a Basketball themed fatality.
One Strip! One Strip! In the sequel, I'm hunting for gold.
No. We are not moving on to a new topic.
Why Sub-Zero?
Context! I need context!
The joke is expendable! Why Sub-Zero?!
One Strip! One Strip!A new spot
for the movie dropped. Amongst the many, many characters you can see The Great Gazoo. Another comment points out that you can also spot Dick Dastardly, but I can't see him. If someone finds him, tell me where he is, because he's like my fave cartoon character ever.
Just for the sake of it:
Teen Titans Go! is doing a Mystery Science Theater 3000-style watch of the original movie. (Naturally to promoting A New Legacy). Notably, they'll be join by the antagonists of that film, The Nerdlucks (or better known as The MonStars).

They appeared a couple times in the comics.

Like creepy stories? Check out my book! The Nerdlucks were better Looney Tunes than Lola could ever hope to be.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I would say it’s because the Nerdlucks are sports movie villains and therefore wouldn’t lead the show by itself but then again Cobra Kai exists, so what do I know.
The legend has returned. One possible strike against the movie's box office chances is the Lakers being eliminated from the Playoffs, so the marketing campaign for the movie during the Finals will look very awkward without LeBron being present on the court.
The Looney Tunes and NBA diehards will probably show up. The masses? That's more ambiguous now.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam Gallagher
It has the same HBO Max issue as well. Last I checked, that was blamed for Mortal Kombat (2021) seeing a lot of its Box office lose to Demon Slayer.
@The Nerdlucks reappearing:
There’s also the fact that “eccentric but actually competent alien invaders, even if slightly gullible” is already Marvin’s thing.
I always thought the Nerdlucks would’ve worked decently well if they ever wanted to do a cartoon where Marvin has sidekicks that can talk, as apposed to his usual silent Martian bird dudes.

Michael Jordan was the friends we made along the way.
