All the more reason to note that Butte County doesn't even have the Butte it's named after within its borders and mock them ruthlessly for that. And, of course, for this really weird bit of grandstanding now too.
Time for the perennial reminder that Northern California should not be allowed to break away into its own state until the electoral college is gone and senators are elected proportionally, and to thank LA, San Francisco, and San Jose for having enough people to keep Northern California from having much national-level power.
California's slice of the infrastructures pie.
What the Golden State is getting from President Biden's Infrastructure Bill recently passed by Congress:
- $25.3 billion for federal-aid highway apportioned programs and $4.2 billion for bridge replacement and repairs over five years.
- $9.45 billion over five years to improve public transportation options across the state.
- $384 million over five years to support the expansion of an electric vehicle charging network in the state.
- A minimum of $100 million to help provide broadband coverage across the state.
- $84 million over five years to protect against wildfires.
- $40 million to protect against cyber attacks.
- $3.5 billion over five years to improve water infrastructure across the state and ensure clean, safe drinking water for California communities.
- $1.5 billion for infrastructure development for airports over five years.
That's a lot of highway funding. But then, I don't think that California has a lot of public transportation, does it?
Mayor Breed backs recall of three San Francisco school board members: 'Our kids must come first'
. Now, if I were a voter there I would vote "keep" on all three (maybe with the exception of Collins) because irrespective of the demerits of their tenure, it seems like recall has become a way to harass politicians who do thinks you don't agree with.
Governor Newsom announced that Omicron has been found in California.
Get your boosters, folks. Let's avoid what happened last year.
This Is Gonna Suck. If memory serves, the Central Valley still has problems?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanCalifornia Deputy DA Who Fought Vaccine Mandate Dies Abruptly After Falling Ill With COVID at Age 46
- Kelly Ernby, a presumed candidate for the state Assembly in 2022, was only 46 years old.
- According to the Los Angeles Times, she fell ill shortly after speaking out against vaccine mandates at a rally organized by Turning Point USA on Dec. 4.
- The Orange County Republicans, for whom Ernby had served as the precinct operations chair, said news of her death had caused "great sadness."
- Ernby's husband, Mattias Ernby, appeared to confirm his wife had not been vaccinated in response to a Facebook user who claimed she had died of blood clots after getting vaccinated.
It's hard to feel bad over this considering she was actively spreading anti-vaxxer bullshit right up to the point she fell ill.
The group noted only that Ernby had died unexpectedly after a “brief illness,” saying “we have hope in this tragedy because we know she had a deep faith.”
Also not surprised that Orange County Republicans tried to downplay this by claiming she died after a "brief illness" without mentioning it was COVID-19.

Disgusted, but not surprisedHonestly, with the gradual fall of the orange curtain from the 90s onwards, I'm surprised there's much left of the Orange County Republicans.
Then again, there were southern democrats until the early 2000s, so I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised that orange county still has enough republicans relative to democrats to form a group capable of causing problems.
Well, yes, I know that, my family lived in LA county for years before moving to the bay area. I know why the orange curtain exists, but I'm just surprised that with how suddenly and visibly the tipping point of the orange curtain happened, (which it did, all state-level seats in the county went democrat in 2018 and democrats outnumber republicans by over a percent) that there's still viability.
Then again, over a percent does leave a little room for swing, even if most independents are actually just voters who don't state party but act as if they're members of one or the other anyway. so I suppose there's still some room for swing. But the sheer fact that it was capable of having such a swing as to send a full contingent of not-fascists at one time is a sign that maybe we'll get to the point where orange county isn't moored even remotely to a world that's almost entirely panicking about the not-white-straight-or-cis-enough people.
Interestingly, even German-language tabloids have weighed in on the matter...
For those wondering why Snorlax was trending on Twitter in California.
Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell, who were fired after the 2017 incident, had argued that the city violated the law by using their police car's digital in-car video system recording as evidence and by denying them protections of the Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights Act. A California appellate court denied their petition for reinstatement in a 32-page decision filed on Friday.
Poor Snorlax doesn't deserve this association.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrSo, I'm hearing rumors that the state legislature is backpeddling on single-payer again, presumably because they don't want to put a tax raise before voters in an election year.
If true, that's obnoxious and possibly badly calculated of them, I'd sure vote for a tax increase to fund single-payer, and I'm sure enough californians would.
(though if a reliable source for this claim I just made could be found, that would be nice, I can't remember where I saw it. I think it was in the San Jose Mercury News, but I can't remember whether it was a proper article or an Op-Ed or the title of it.)

Eesh, dude must've risked several heart attacks doing that.
