I'm actually pretty excited for this remake. I like the 1937 one with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, but...I haven't seen the Streisand one...or the Judy Garland one...Okay, so maybe I need to watch those, too.
It's also strange seeing Gaga like... a human being? Like without all the extra stuff she surrounds herself with.
Was the Streisand one a musical version of the star being born? Because this one, from the trailers, looks like it's country music or something instead of acting like the Gaynor and Garland one.

"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."I try to avoid Barbra Streisand at all costs, but yes, I believe the 1970s version was music-based, with her and Kris Kristofferson.
I've only seen the 1937 version. I've tried to watch Judy's version and the '70s version but neither are particularly interesting to me. When I heard it was being remade again, I thought it was an "old Hollywood" Period Piece. It's a Setting Update, however.
This is a movie that I have no doubt will be objectively good but I have a less-than-zero desire to see it. It does look great, though.

Either this will go Not His Sled and you're wrong (and actually improving his viewing of it by creating that context) or you're just letting him know the sled from past versions.
I am concerned about them going with the former given it's such an old tale and they might want to change it up, but I highly doubt he's going to have himself a happy ending.

But it's okay because he survived.
If he dies though, I don't mind: it's a tragic tale and loses some tragedy if he doesn't die. Maybe he doesn't die by suicide but he dies by being forever an alcoholic who squanders his talent.

"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."I found this good Atlantic article
about all the iterations throughout the years of the Star is Born narrative.

Every 20 years or so they have to remake this movie, and the latest one is rolling around in 2018, starring and directed by Bradley Cooper.
Apparently it's outstanding, based on advance word from critics.
Also, Lady Gaga is the female lead, and this is how she looks
◊ when she isn't all dolled up.
