That wasn't about SEW, but Bleach communities in general. I also didn't disagree with that. I for one was able to connect with the Shinigami, most Espada, some Fullbringers, and the important Sternritter, so I had no issues with most fights. I also believe that Kubo's abilties as a writer improved over the years. But I can understand when others didn't.

Though, for better or worse, the anime will show us what Kubo originally planned for the final arc. If his comments on the Burn the witch movie are any indication, Kubo will be heavily involved with the anime production.

Oh, is he actually going to give the anime team directions on what he planned to do? I can't see that as anything but an improvement since the ending was very anticlimactic due to kubo needing to wrap things up so he could recuperate from his poor health.

Not confirmed for the Bleach anime. But Kubo was incredibly involved with all stages of production of the Burn the witch movie, and in the past, he voiced his displeasure when the anime didn't do his vision right and decided to involve himself with the production. I think he's a bit of a prima donna director, and I feel a bit sorry for the anime crew.

That's what he said about the movie ""Drawing and sharing different storyboards, drawing manuscripts and sharing as many designs as possible, checking all the scripts, confirming all lines and scenes during the whole production, participating in auditions and recordings from start to finish, I have cooperated in everything I could until I was satisfied. Thanks to the love and tact the director, deputy director, and staff have put, it has become an amazing work. I hope lots of people enjoy watching it."

Edit: Sorry if it's starting to get too off-topic. I'll stop now better.

Funny, 'cause the Kenpachi fight is still my favorite from the Soul Society arc, I found it a good use of the "getting over a personal hung up unlockes greater powers" thing that has be a staple of Battle Shounen since at least the Cell Saga.

That's also what I like about the Kenpachi fight. ichigo having to properly bond and learn more about zangetsu to be able to challenge kenpachi. it works because zangetsu himself seems interesting and it's nice to know more about him, but also he is supposed to be an aspect of ichigo (before it was revealed he was more than that in ttybw), so in learning more about him, he learns more about himself. Plus kubo's art in that fight in particular is quite good with some great drawings of kenpachi.

[up][up]Oh, yeah, that part of the fight is good, I liked it myself as well. I am just saying that the mechanical aspects of the fight are completely silly. Ichigo wins just 'cause, as usual, and Kempachi's power level is very vague. But it still works because none of that is actually the point of the fight (or pretty much any Bleach fight).

Something I find rather amusing is how apparently Kubo originally wanted the Arrancar Saga to be more simpler & straightforward but the whole thing just went out of his control because he was told to showcase more of the popular Arrancars or something.

Here are the movies that are covered: The Baby, Parents, Un Chien Andalou, Lost Highway, Eraserhead, The Wolf House (a surreal Chilean stop motion horror movie), The Adventures of Mark Twain's Satan scene, Pinocchio's donkey transformation scene, All Dogs Go to Heaven's version of Hell, Watership Down's suffocation scene, The Plague Dogs, Threads, Relic, The Taking of Deborah Logan, Possession, Funny Games, Occult (a Japanese found footage/mockumentary fusion about a mass murderer), and Last Summer (a weirdly tense coming-of-age story).

Aaand here’s the now yearly Shonen Jump overview.

…You know, I’m starting to think the paper Jump is kinda doomed to disappear as soon as One Piece will end. With online prepublication showing that it can produce its own hits, it’s likely that paper mags will gradually lose their reason to exist and that only compiled volumes will remain, kinda like how it went for French comics decades ago.

[up][up] Phantom Seer has great art but the story is bland. Kind of reminds me of a first-time writer cobbling together a decent story but plays it safe too much.

[up] I for one welcome the digital era of manga.

Ah so the future for manga is the same as comics, going digital.

Also I find it amusing how Black Clover's sales never really increase despite being the only series along with One Piece to have a continuous anime.

[up] I'd love it if American comics went digital only for the singles. It might encourage them to actually reprint TP Bs for once.

I found that a lot of Western viewer baffled about Kn Y popularity and think it came out of nowhere. The true is that the series already quite popular in Japan pre-anime and it sale already pick-up before episode 19. It blow-up in the West after episode 19 but it have been blowing up before that in Japan.

For a lot of that bafflement is just "but it's not that popular in the US, how can the Japanese like it so much!?"

Love how said popularity did transfer to the west.

Kimetsu volumes do sell a good deal here.

Makes it hard to find volumes at times and now its hard to find volumes for Jujutsu. Vol 0 is fucking sold out on Barnes n Nobles and Amazon.

As someone who participate in a lot of discussion about manga sale, i think Eyepatch Wolf miss a lot from his video.

1. OP will never be able to keep been the best seller due to it leight, with 1000+ chapters, it extremely hard to attract newer readers. And like every manga, OP fanbase will become smaller overtime (people who lose interest, people who died,...)

2.Jump care more about growth than sale. You can have bad sale initially, but if you don't show any sign of growing then you will got axed. S8 basically sale less with each volume which contributed to it been axed. WSJ is basically an IP factory and they want to grow their franchise.

3. Kn Y success. I does correct in that it a perfect storm, the anime boots happened when the series entered it final arc, thus the manga never lost it sale momentum unlike most series where the sale drop once the anime ended. Also it theme, art style and characters are just resonated better to Asia value when compare to other stuffs.

[up] I find it funny when people said Jump been more axe happy than before despite the amount of series got axed in the past 2 years is pretty much average compare to previous years. The only difference is that readers from outside Japan now have more info on the magazine.

[up] The axe rate isn’t particularly higher than usual (out of ten series launched, only two or three survive more than a year, basically), but the sheer number of new series definitely is.

BTW, SEW recently took part in a Wha Happun? vid with Matt McMuscles covering, you guessed it, Shenmue III.

Lyendith called it here:

Like who the eff thought that players would want to go through hours of repetitive and stupid quests just to learn one move? Twice? How did Suzuki not consider that players might be bummed to have waited 19 years for a game that not only doesn’t conclude the story but doesn’t even advance it? What… Wha happun?

SEW basically relives the trauma of Shenmue III in this vid. Unlike SEW's own vid, this one covers the design process behind Shenmue III and its crowdfunding, explaining why the game was so lackluster.

The key point is that Shenmue is a game designed by someone who doesn't play videogames.

I figured I'd post it here since SEW does play a major role in it.
