Announcement:
Next season, we will be switching over to using the new, updated version of the simulator. This sim has a number of new features, including new pronoun options for tributes (singular they, it, and plural they). This also means that from next season on, events will have to be formatted in a different way to account for this, explained below:
- Verbs and nouns can be conjugated by considering the (he/she/(singular) they/it/(plural) they#) order. They also use parentheses like (Player#). You can use the conjugation generator program by awe921 to help with this.
- For example, "(Player1) (kills/kills/kills/kills/kill1) (Player2). [TypeA1] then (buries/buries/bury/buries/bury) [typeB2].". The first sentence has the first four conjugations being "kills" as it involves a singular subject and the fifth being "kill" as the subject is plural, while the second one accounts for when a sentence starts one of the pronoun sets, with the third and fifth conjugations being "bury" since (singular) they is treated the same way as (plural) they.
- It's also possible to shorten the formatting so you don't have to type out the words in full five times. For example, "(Player1) kill(s/s/s/s/1) (Player2). [TypeA1] then bur(ies/ies/y/ies/y1) [typeB2].". In the first sentence, the first four pronoun sets will add an "s" to "kill" so it becomes "kills", but the blank space for the last pronoun (plural they) will add nothing and the word will stay as "kill". Similarly, in the second sentence, the first, second and fourth will add "ies" to make the word "buries", while the third and fifth will add "y" to make it "bury".
- Note that this doesn't work if the first entry in the formatting is blank, for example "(Player1) put(s/s/s/s/1) on (a/a/a/a/1) hat(////s1)". The last word will have to be written as "ha(t/t/t/t/ts1)".
- To determine if certain nouns should be kept as singular for all pronouns or made plural for the "(plural) they" pronoun, it depends on what fits best within the context of the event.
- If you're conjugating numbers this way (e. g. (30/30/30/30/30 each#)), they must be spelled out (i. e. (thirty/thirty/thirty/thirty/thirty each#)) because they don't render properly in the new sim format.
We expect all players to learn and get used to the new event formatting style, but we will have a 5-season "grace period" where you can still submit events using the old formatting style while getting used to the new one, and the events will be reformatted by the save maker. After this, however, the new formatting style is required.

We have officially overhauled the rules to account for the new sim. Please check here for further details.
Specifically, here are the following changes:
- Added a ban appeal note in the paragraph introducing the mods and how you can contact them.
- Added a Disclaimer folder which contains this game's Content Warning.
- Shortened all rules to be as concise as possible, including transferring the advanced Watchlist and Event Rulesnote .
- Rearranged some rules in the Thread Rules and Guidelines.
- Softened the punishment for violating the Tribute Cooldown Rule (Rule 5). Instead of being immediately disqualified, players will be asked to change their tribute within a certain amount of time or else they will be DQ'd.
- Added the maximum total tribute limit (200) for the new sim in the Nomination Period Rule (Rule 2). The time limit for nominating tributes remains the same (24 hours from the finale).
- Retired the Host Search Rule, which was already quietly done last year. This time, is no time limit in looking for a host.
- Further defined what a Controversial Figure is (Rule 6) and clarified what qualifies as one. Also listed works whose tributes, while fictional, are banned from this game for being too mired in controversy.
- Changed the Runner's Rule so that HGS Discord Server participation is required for running (Rule 7) since in-depth running guidelines are found there and live communication is needed in it.
- Added Rule 9, which reminds everyone to follow all basic TVT rules as well. Loophole Abuse will not be tolerated.
- Revised the Nominating Tributes folder to account for the new sim. Up to 2 tributes are allowed per player, but no reserves, and their pronouns can be chosen between he/him, she/her, singular they/them, it/its, and plural they/them, in that order.
- Added a recommendation to list the tributes' works for Database/Wiki purposes and add work tags in case they share a name with other tributes (Rule 4).
- Added some recommended image conversion sites for tribute pics (Rule 5). Minimum size is 90x90 pixels while the only accepted filenames are .jp(e)g, .gif, and .png. Additionally, the URL must start with "https://".
- Expanded the definition of a Black Flag in the Watchlist folder to include inanimate corpses and mixed-age/sapience group tributes.
- Added the Anti-Teen Marriage Rule (Rule 6), which was agreed on in the server last year but wasn't added to the rules. Due to Values Dissonance, Yellow Flags can't be involved in engagement/marriage events unless their nominator is okay with it.
- In the Special Cases folder, expanded the Anti-Incest Special Case Flag to include grandparent/grandchild and (aunt/uncle)/(nephew/niece) pairings for mandatory special case flagging. Also clarified that non-mixed age/sapience familial group tributes can be shipped with others since it's assumed that the family members are only being shipped with the third party.
- Added the Author Avatar Special Case Flag along with the Troper Games Blacklist and Graylist.
- Besides moving the Work-Specific Special Cases to their own doc, added new works there.
- Added the Event Formatting folder, as explained in Zanreo's announcement.
- In the Event Rules folder, added a soft rule that limits snowcloned events to around 3-4 in a player's event dump.
- Added the modified Arena Event limit for the new sim (up to 5 AEs, each with a minimum of 3 fatal sub-events and a maximum of 10 fatal sub-events and 10 nonfatal ones).
- Expanded the character limit for events to 500, including symbols and punctuation (Rule 5).
- Added a rule that mandates all tribute names ("(Player#)") to be listed for easier death summary tracking for Database/Wiki purposes (Rule 6).
- Added a rule where all potentially offensive/insensitive events such as those based on historical tragedies shall be screened by the community, which was agreed on last year but wasn't added to the rules (Rule 7). However, bigotry events/events with slurs are banned.
- Added a rule clarifying how indirect kills are coded in the save (Rule 8).
- Besides moving the explanations of banned events to their own doc, added the following events to the banlist, which have been unwritten rules for a long time:
- Gender Bender events
- Events explicitly confirming a tribute's sexual orientation/gender identitynote
- Events where a tribute is revealed to be another character all along or gets permanently replaced by them (such events were cut early in the Reboot)
- Any further events where a tribute subjects/attempts to subject someone to almost every fatal/nonfatal eventnote
- Explained the "special" themed seasons (Battle Royale, Death Battle, Holiday Seasons, Anniversary Seasons, and the Troper Games) in the Themed Seasons folder.
- Added a TLDR folder summarizing the core gameplay loop.
- Replaced the sample save with that from the new sim.

So I suppose the event where a tribute makes another tribute their vessel by putting their heart inside them like Master Xehanort did was removed? Just asking.

No it wasn't, we just took it as a possession event where the tribute controls the latter through the heart. Despite that, the possessed victim's kills are still attributed to them instead of the possessor.

Dawn breaks through the Arena. Everything is still. All of the tracker jackers and wolf mutts are napping for some reason. The winds of change have yet to howl.
President Snow is standing at the podium in the middle of a field, guarded by a few Peacekeepers. He is about to broadcast a momentous speech to all people, Panem-wide, thread-wide, internet-wide.
"The end of an era is upon us," he begins solemnly. "For many years, we have entertained you all with spectacles of violence. We have been doing this for over 500 Seasons now." He pauses, as if expecting applause. This does not come. Only the odor of freshly cleaned-up corpses from Games past, or at least the odor from where they were supposed to be, litters the air. "However, I am here today to announce something that will go down in history as one of the most important actions ever taken by any government in world history: The end of the old Hunger Games Simulator."
Those watching are perplexed. Some felt this coming, given the recent budget cuts to the Panem peacekeepers. Others are shocked, wondering.
"I share your grief and pain," the President continues. "We have all lost loved ones to these games, but they were necessary sacrifices. Those who survived deserve our respect. Without them, where would we be? A world without war? No more deaths?"
There is another ominous silence. "Well... yes. I just answered my own question. Nevertheless, the Games are an important cultural touchstone. By association, so is the old Hunger Games Simulator. Effective immediately, after this Season runs its course, we will begin decommissioning of the old Simulator."
Snow awkwardly taps his microphone. "Now, some might say that we should keep the old Simulator running forever, because it's part of what made us who we are. But let me remind you, we're not in the dark ages anymore. There is a newer Simulator on the horizon! It has been under development for several years now. And I can tell you that when we unveil it next Season, it will be unlike anything you've ever seen before!"
He looks around, as if expecting applause. Again, awkward silence. A Peacekeeper coughs.
"You'll see," says the President. "We will no longer be limited to just Twelve Districts. The new Simulator will allow us to do things beyond our wildest dreams! This Simulator will bring the Capitol together like never before. It will provide us with a common bond. It will bind us together in ways that no other technology could ever hope to achieve."
He look around, scanning for any threats in his vicinity. "And," he continues, eyes shifting, "it is also rumored that this Simulator has the ability to predict the outcome of future Seasons. Which means no more surprises. No more last-minute changes. No more unpredictable results. This new Simulator will be fair, predictable, and above all else, absolutely correct."
"BULLSHIT!" a voice rings out, loud enough to be heard on the moderate quality Youtube stream. It is a puffy and moist voice. "RNG IS ALWAYS UNFAIR!!!"
The President, unfazed, continues: "Yes, this new Simulator will make sure everyone will have a fair chance at victory-"
He does not finish these words, as the two Peacekeepers next to him topple over near his feet. A diminutive figure - no, a large-sized article of clothing - jumps inside the camera's frame, seizing the microphone from the President. "Hey!" he yelps, but the article of clothing - a puffy sweater - brushes him off.
"I am a puffy sweater," the puffy sweater says through the microphone, "and I've come today to protest against the Hunger Games!"
The puffy sweater raises their sleeve-hands up. "The RNG is unfair," they say. "It is inherently unfair!"
The President winces. "Guards!" he snarls. "Seize them!" He tries to grab the puffy sweater but it slips out of his bear hug like butter.
"The Hunger Games stink!" the puffy sweater continues. "And it killed my cousin, Puffy Shirt! You know, the shirt whose memorial they made a bunch of seasons back? You whole lot sicken me, letting them die like that!"
Another Peacekeeper steps forward and pins the puffy sweater to the ground. "Do not speak of dead family members to the President," he commands.
"Screw you! I have the right to free speech!" The camera somehow is tracking the puffy sweater as they struggle against the Peacekeeper's burly grip. "I will not be silenced! The people have to know! The tributes" - they somehow slip through the Peacekeeper's grip and break his leg in the process - "the tributes have to know! THE RESERVES HAVE TO KNOW!!! The nominators, the Tropers, the Gamemakers! THEY HAVE TO KNOW!!!"
A fourth Peacekeeper arrives on screen, holding a giant bag of popcorn, which he tosses at the puffy sweater. The sweater nimbly sways, dodging the bag, then responds within the nanosecond by pulling out a bigger bag of popcorn and dunking it on the guard. The President then attempts to dive at the sweater, but misses, crashing head first into the podium. The sweater is just too good at not getting caught.
All the while, the camera is tracking the sweater's movement. They are approaching the camera. "DON'T TRUST THE NEW SIMULATOR!!!" they yell, coming up extremely close to the lens. "The new Simulator CAN NOT be trusted, just like the old!"
A swath of Peacekeeper arms and hands, some disembodied, emerge from out of frame and grab the puffy sweater, in a way that makes it look like they're being pulled apart in all directions on-screen. "PANEM LIES TO YOU, EPIC GAMERS!!!" the sweater yells in desperation. One final hand, which may or may not belong to a robot, emerges to yank the sweater backwards. "THE ODDS ARE NEVER IN YOUR FAVOR-"
Static. Then a Panem TV "Technical Difficulties" error. This screen persists for some time, before someone in the control room switches it over to the main event.
Welcome to Season 257. Whew, it's been a ride, huh? We've gotten over 500 official TVTropes Hunger Games simulations on our plate. What a journey it's been. Look at us. Look at us! Who woulda thought?
As you are probably aware, this will be the last official season that the old BrantSteele HG sim will be used. Come next season, we will roll out the bloodstained red carpet for everybody. That's right, we're gonna have *more than 48 tributes* per season. No more rolling for reserves! But that's later, and this is now.

- Okay, so Ares decides to give in to being the God of Chaos and turns the chaos clown himself, Chris Farley Joker, into a baby. Now Ares must learn how to be a father to a human child, with the help of Cathy Mitchell and her As Seen on TV products!
- Mara's new book proves to be a hit with her close group of friends. Red Copper Pan's book, meanwhile, is a hit with the bad robots Amato is fighting.
- Oh of course Isabelle would do that! She convincingly boops Sweet JP's nose.
- Gather around, children, and I will tell you a tale about how Scipion's Failed Reserves all fought the Universe's sibling... the PARALLEL UNIVERSE.

- This is why sleep is important for your memory, folks. Morpho Knight should get that sleep if he wants to remember even the most basic sword (and sledgehammer) spells.
