10:0 in favor. Shall we call it?

Edit. I misread the crowner. I thought were a single nay but I was mistaken.

[up]I like the sandbox.

Should the new Windows of the Soul have examples? Here's Sandbox.Windows Of The Soul. The description is a mashup of what's on Windows of the Soul and Eyes Never Lie at the moment. Please help if there are any "eyes reveal something" tropes that are missing and not on "Uh-Oh" Eyes.

I also like the sandbox.

I say that Windows of the Soul shouldn't have examples because this will discourage use of it as a trope. MAYBE as a "misc" thing but I don't think that will be necessary with the number of tropes we have already.

The old description mentioned literature often describing emotions being visible through eyes in an implausible way (as in, "she saw the spark of hope flare up in his eyes for the first time"), which woudn't necessarily fit another trope as far as I know. This also seems like it would be restricted to literature, as most visual eye things are already covered by other tropes. There seem to be a few such examples on the page:

     Emotions in eyes
  • In Supergirl fanfic Hellsister Trilogy, Satan Girl and Berserkerโ€™s eyes show their lack of restrain or conscience.
The focus of the image came back to the lone warrior, or berserker, or... hell, just call him a murderer. His visage was less distinct than those of the Apokolips pair, probably because the computer didnโ€™t have a model from which to work. Still... the eyes. She could make out enough of them to see something there, a fury, a lack of conscience, a lack of superego with which to restrain the id.
Eyes that, in another face, could have belonged to Satan Girl.
  • This comes into play in The Vow when Lord Shen proposes Lady Lianne shortly after their First Kiss. Before Lianne gives her answer, she wants to make sure the man she's about to spend the rest of her life with feels true love instead of temporary infatuation towards her. She does this by looking into Shen's eyes and searching from them a spark which according to the fairytales her mother used to tell her can tell you if the person truly loves you. Lianne finds from Shen's unguarded gaze not a spark, but scorching flames and agrees to marry him.
  • Briefly discussed in Guardians, Wizards, and Kung-Fu Fighters. When Jade first meets Phobos, she initially notes that he's the most normal-looking of everyone in his court. Then she looks into his eyes and sees nothing but an empty void, and realizes that there's just something wrong with him.
  • In Dragon Bones, Ward describes Oreg as looking at him with "wounded eyes". Ward didn't harm him at the moment, but as it turns out later, Oreg has lots of psychological issues from being abused by Ward's ancestors. His soul is, indeed, wounded.

I moved the content from Sandbox.Windows Of The Soul and made it an index. Any more opinions about my previous post or whether Windows of the Soul should have examples? I moved all the examples that were on the main page to Sandbox.Windows Of The Soul.

Are we good to swap in Sandbox.Eyes Never Lie for the current page?

I personally would put examples under Meaningful Appearance perhaps? Eyes Never Lie's description seems good to me, while the example section needs an Example Indentation cleanup.

Cleaned up the sandbox examples for Eyes Never Lie.

[up] The thing I am talking about is the concept of seeing emotions in people's eyes, which is more of a narrative device than a literal fact about people's appearances. For example:

  • Juliet Marillier's The Sevenwaters Trilogy does this all the time, sometimes with more than one emotion at once, thus: "She saw a mixture of triumph and dread in his eyes."

There are very few examples of this that aren't just Twinkle in the Eye though, so I suppose it's ok to leave them be.

I swapped in the sandbox for Eyes Never Lie. I suppose all that's left is wick cleanup for Eyes Never Lie and Windows of the Soul?

I'd say no.

Windows is an Index with 167 wicks, a lot from Character pages.

I am cleaning up the wicks right now. Everything that isn't an index needs to be dewicked from Windows of the Soul or put elsewhere right?

So I was trying to finish off the wicks to Windows of the Soul today and came across this on Discworld City Watch. I don't know how to rewrite this or what trope to replace this with.

  • Eyes Always Averted: When reporting to Vetinari, Vimes always stares at a spot slightly above the Patrician's head, in part due to the fact that the Windows of the Soul trope is extremely prevalent on the Disc (even gods can't hide or disguise their eyes).

I don't remember that aspect of his character, but it's more likely because he doesn't want to reveal his emotions, than suspecting the Patrician to be some sort of supernatural creature.

[up][up]Eyes Never Lie.

Could also pothole Eyes Are Mental when it talks about Gods not being able to change their eyes.

Tried my hand at dewicking; unsure what to do with these three wicks:

  • Tropes N to Z: Wizards can see a person's soul with their Sight if eye contact is maintained (this is why you don't look at a wizard too long. They see too much). However, there are two drawbacks: the other person can see you, too, and you can't forget what you see. Ever
    • EDIT: By extension, this applies to the White Night and Storm Front wicks since they are all in the same setting.
  • Star Wars Rebels S2E13 "The Call": When Ezra connects with the purrgil and sees its thoughts of hyperspace, it's represented as hyperspace being shown in their eyes.
  • Big Finish Doctor Who 153 The Silver Turk: Literally. The eyes give the Cyberman, and by proxy Dr. Drossel, control over the puppets.

Okay, other than those five and miscellaneous wiki-related wicks, dewicking is done.

EDIT: I cutlisted the laconic as well.

So, what, if anything, are we doing with Windows To The Soul, which has Sandbox.Windows To The Soul?

Made a request on the locked pages thread for Windows To The Soul. I am going to take Sandbox.Windows Of The Soul to the cutlist as it is not needed now. But other than that, we are done so hollering for this to be sent to the morgue.

What to do about those five wicks? Just remove them?
