Tabuu was my vote in the Ballot. I don't expect it either, but I can hope. Brawl was my first Smash Bros game (which may explain why I'm not great at it).
No Smash trailer. Maybe an announcement of a date for a new Smash direct.
The final boss of story mode is the entire cast of Melee. When they are defeated, every copy of Melee explodes, just as Sakurai planned.
E3 was given a focus ahead of time on Smash, with other content coming with it. This is explicitly general, so nothing too crazy is showing up probably.
I'm expecting at best one newcomer(Isaac?) and one echo(I'd say Shadow or Ken. Maybe Impa or the less likely Ninten). If a second unique, Isabelle's an easy option(if she doesn't stay in the AT zone. But I honestly would love a unique moveset from her. Though I'd rather have Steve? for terraforming, but I wouldn't be mad if she got it at all. It feels far more accurate than a moveset that doesn't fit her much at all. While the other Echoes are heavily tied to the character they echo, whether meta joke or not, they still are seen acting like the character or doing most of their moves, or as noted, is a meta reference. Isabelle doesn't use tools, meaning they'd feel tacked on. It's simply being more than "capable" of doing it that makes them a good choice. It's actually fitting the character in, while making a fun character that had little chance otherwise).
And I cannot realistically put Isabelle in a "had little chance otherwise". She is very easy to make unique and stand out from Villager, even as a regular clone or semi-clone. I feel like she might fit more as a Pichu/Dr. Mario style, with a lot of differences but similar animations for many moves. For instance, a Bowling Ball just feels really strange for her, but a Stack of Papers? Perfect. Another thing is that Echoes' moves are not heavily different in their things like knockback/angle they send the opponent flying(at best, damage can be far more tweaked). A lot of the moves that fit Isabelle better also make more sense with a lot more differences. It's why I'm thinking she's very likely to be a regular clone instead of an Echo, assuming she makes it in as playable(which is a reasonable chance).
Considering the missing blog numbers, we know there's something Smash related in this Direct. Maybe a newcomer, maybe an echo, maybe just a new stage for ROB finally.
guessing one new unique character, probs a new Pokemon. Maybe just an echo, but I think they might save echo reveals for more lowkey announcements.
Also, bringing this up here though I'm not sure if it's actually a spoiler or not: Smash Bros. Ultimate will be playable before release at a few colleges throughout the U.S. What's interesting about this article is that it uses the phrase "more than 70 playable fighters." The phrasing implies to me that a large portion of the roster (if not the full roster) might be playable in this version of the game. Now I know that we're already above the 70 mark if we count echoes, but it does make me wonder just how many unique newcomers are left. I've personally been thinking maybe 2 or 3 fully unique characters left, but it would be interesting to see exactly how many tricks Sakurai and the team have left up their sleeves.
Wait, what missing blog numbers? Was I asleep or something?
The blog posts are all numbered (in the url? I haven't looked for myself). We didn't get any updates on the day the direct was postponed, but the number on the next update skipped forward by 3. The number on he update for the song is also out of sequence, suggesting that there should have been another music update before it.
Or a Sora intern made a typo.
They made a very specific typo twice on updates near a delayed event that was 99% likely to have Smash news anyways, with a system that probably numbers the updates automatically as they are queued?
Well, if it's numbered automatically, it would just take one. Mistakes can happen, even within Sakurai's aura.
The song number skipped ahead a week though.
Did a quick search, these are the numbers since just before the delay:
138 - Toon Link - 2018-09-10
139- - Wind Waker - 2018-09-10
142 - Bowser - 2018-09-09
146- - Pikmin - Main Theme - 2018-09-11
The GFAQS post I pulled this from did say that there have been skipped numbers and other inconsistencies before, but never to this extent.

Isabelle for Smash confirmed, and she's not even a Villager Echo.
Dang, I seriously wasn't thinking they would actually make Isabelle playable.
Rip Isaac hype. All the earthquake theories now look dumb in hindsight.
Good for our girl Isabelle. I always believed she would be unique.
Ha! The chair theory is dead.
There's still hope for Isaac, and I'm fine with Isabelle.
Interesting to see she ended up a unique fighter. Vergeben is still batting 1000.
He said she was an echo, so RIP that.
Although to give credit, she is a semi-clone
He didn't, actually. In retrospect the fact that he knew about Isabelle but no other Echo (like Richter despite leaking Simon) was kind of a big red flag that Isabelle wouldn't be an Echo.
So what's the status on Verg?
Ken, Gen 7 Pokemon, SE rep and?
