Tried online for the first time (didn't bother doing online in Brawl and 4). The lag is real. Getting those challenges won't be a fun time.
Based on the trailers I've seen: I highly doubt KH 3 will cover all the lose ends they've had for so long, and will probably just raise even more questions. Not to mention all of it looks like it's just all flair and no substance whatsoever.
But going back to the leak: The only thing that raises a huge red flag for me here would be the idea of Nintendo unveiling all the contents by E3 later this year, which would have ruined several months of hype cause people would just be impatient for a gameplay reveal/release dates which isn't as hype-inducing as speculating who the next characters are.
Put aside whether or not Kingdom Hearts 3 is going to finally clear up the Kudzu Plot that started going wild as of Kingdom Hearts 2 (spoiler alert: it will not). The big question is, will it sell well enough that Square Enix's financials will clear up in the long term? My personal guess is that it'll sell at least well enough that they'll get at least close to equilibrium, though whether or not it will push the company into ultimately pulling a yearly profit is another question entirely.
Also, to be perfectly fair, Final Fantasy XV, for all its flaws, is actually a successful game in terms of sales (it has already outsold FF13 despite the former's head start). Its big problem was that it was stuck in Development Hell for so long and thus had so much spent on it that it was practically a financial sinkhole and SQEX is basically just finally cutting its losses. To some extent, the financial outlook for the future may be better for the move by just eating the loss now, but it still leaves the company in a position where the immediate raising of capital in any sensible way possible (and working with Nintendo on a sweet Smash DLC package is at least on the surface one of the most sensible ways I can see) is the smart move.
As for a giant E3 reveal... hrm... to some extent, I don't know if Smash DLC even needs a giant hype train. We're talking about the long tail in terms of sales of both DLC and the core game (and the console itself, of course) when we're discussing the possible effects of hype for the DLC. And I don't know if there really would be anything more than a negligible effect on sales if the hype was drawn out versus a huge burst. In short, I don't think Nintendo would honestly get that much benefit out of stringing out Smash announcements in regards to Smash itself.
That said, I think the rest of the possible Switch release schedule is more of a possible issue when it comes to how much of an E3 announcement Smash DLC gets. Basically, the more new stuff Nintendo has ready to go, the less I imagine they would want Smash DLC to overshadow it (or for the other stuff to overshadow Smash). At the very least, we can be pretty sure the new Animal Crossing will be at E3 (given that it's due out later this year), as will Daemon X Machina (which I've been particularly interested in), Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Luigi's Mansion 3, Metroid Prime 4, the eighth generation of Pokemon, and Yoshi's Crafted World. If Nintendo has a few more blockbuster announcements (or at least what they think will be blockbusters, like if that Town game that Game Freak is working on is something Nintendo thinks will be big), or they feel like a developer has big Switch-related news that they wouldn't want to overshadow (as a really wild one, imagine if Square Enix announced that they are finally going to make Chrono Break and make it a Switch exclusive... not that I think that's remotely likely, but if it did, that'd be a show-stopper) that would be a big argument against a massive DLC announcement at E3.
I think that there'd just be one DLC pick revealed at the end of the E3 stream, kind of like what they did with Isabelle at the Nintendo Direct earlier. It would probably be one of the more hyped-for DLC options. Not Brave, but most likely the third or fourth fighter.
tbh I think that brave is probably banjo due to the rareware spirits and the quiz show boss in the game's data, also banjo would be about the same size as mario and would be pretty heavy due to the fact he's been the subject of a few fat jokes in the games :/. also he doesn't wall jump so that's good too. But I don't think a big, predictable name like erdrick or banjo will be revealed anytime soon. maybe they'll be the last ones? Also jack could be someone completely different than joker and joker'll be the last character released in a playable state.
What Rareware spirits are there?
jet force gemini and blast corps, they can't be obtained in-game and are only in the game's data. however it is worth to note that nintendo still owns the japanese names for both jet force gemini and blast corps, but they can't use any characters from either. also they own nothing else from rare (besides the donkey kong country and star fox characters they made like k.rool, timber, and krystal)
Nintendo doesn't own any of the Diddy Kong Racing characters beyond the Kongs and should be Krunch since he's a Kremling.
diddy kong racing is more of a grey area, nintendo doesn't completely own the rights to timber or drumstick or tiptup, but at the same time microsoft doesn't either. Also before anyone says "tiptup is a banjo character so he's 100% owned by microsoft" he was still included in the ds remake of dkr where's banjo and conker were replaced by tiny kong and dixie kong respectively . Also the fact that diddy kong racing was name dropped in nuts and bolts (an xb360 exclusive) doesn't help the confusing matters either.
This reminds me that the Cloaking Device and Motion-Sensor Bomb in Melee were originally direct references to Perfect Dark, the only non-Donkey Kong Rareware related thing ever officially featured in Smash, though only in the Japanese releases. They changed the designs and descriptions to not reference those games internationally. They must of already been in talks to sell Rare to Microsoft even that early.

Smashboards is doing a job of convincing me Brave is Geno and I don't want to hope again.
Smash fans will twist anything so long as it hints towards their favourite character.
I wouldn't count on it.
you've all seen me with banjo, we just have to wait
IIRC the gist of it was that Brave's stats didn't line up with those of the swordsmen characters and more fit a smaller zoning character.
it could be our puppet boi, but highly doubtful
I've also seen Monster Hunter floated as a possibility since Brave is apparently the name of something from the series.
And those stats don't fit Hayabusa or Doomguy.
And maybe not Steve, even though i already considered the leak bullshit.
those stats fit someone like banjo, eredrick, and monster hunter, can't think of any other 3rd party characters that would be heavy, lack a jab attack, and can't wall jump
Watch Brave's stats be a red herring and we get some chungus fighter
Yosh crashes in!◊
call the vet that yoshi is sick
Brave Veronica here we go.
I'm gonna laugh if Brave turns out to be a cowardly character instead.
Unless its a datamine I'm not taking any leak seriously now. Joker and Piranha Plant were on nobody's radars when it came to leaks and "insiders". I'd sooner trust dataminer assumptions than any so-called leak that reads as if its just piggybacking off of other ones.
I distrust all the leakers and dataminers, and you should too unless you want a repeat of the Grinch leaks
