So they finally made the Spice Girls cartoon eh? It's about 20 years late, but I always knew they'd fit perfectly as cartoon characters.

God fucking damn you! Now I got “Wannabe” looping in my head again! I HOPE you are proud of yourself!
It's not a purge. Leth's been public that she's had a script installed for years that auto-deletes her tweets after two weeks. It wasn't an immediate reaction torch-and-burn, it's been her standard for ages.

Not the worst idea, really. "Everything you say can and will be taken out of context, twisted, misinterpreted and used against you years after you've moved on" seems to be the law of the internet lately. I can see how she'd want to avoid that kinda thing.

Honestly I hope this show is actually good and doesn't get overshadowed by all this controversy. It has a cute art style and I'm a sucker for high fantasy anime settings.
I mean I can kind of understand the people who are mad about their sub money not going to support "real" anime or improving the site (despite them rolling out a new player this fall), but I still think its exciting that they're branching out to original content and want to give it a chance.
The people railing against it because of the all female staff and screaming about sjws can shove it you know where.
Yeah, as ill-advised that initial trailer and the choice of platform was, the people railing against it are generally the kind of people I'd rather not agree with. So yeah, here's hoping it actually turns out to be good.
Gotta admit, though, so far I'm not exactly brimming with confidence, but maybe they'll prove me wrong with the actual reveal trailer this weekend.
Okay yeah if were being honest, I feel like they should have known what kind of trolly sh*t storm they'd be inviting with a trailer like that using some of those "dreaded" phrases and not fully talking about the show in more detail, given Kate Leth's experience with irrational hatedoms like this.
Regardless, it's still impossible to sympathize with the people against it when 60% are pretty much being Chernobyl grade toxic about the whole thing.
Yeah lets be real I'm giving this a chance and the art style looks cute af but given what little we know about this show it sounds painfully by the numbers so far. We need a lot more to go off of to get a better idea of what it'll be like both plot and character wise.
Plus it's pretty lopsided to compare Lauren Faust to Kate Leth. I mean Leth isn't the psychotic sjw stereotype all of the current haters are caricaturing but her writing is pretty 50/50.
I mean I personally liked her Hellcat run on some levels but I can't say it was the best either.
From what I've read of Leth's stuff, it's been a bit hit or miss for me. I liked the first arc she wrote on the Bravest Warriors comics, disliked the second one, liked the third one, aaaand… don't have any lasting impression of the last one. I've read the first four Adventure Time Graphic Novels, the third and fourth of which were written by her. I liked the fourth one! The third one was okay. I didn't dislike it, but I liked it the least of the first four AT graphic novels, and enjoyed the LSP back-up story way more.
Devil's advocate: When your employer refuses to increase salaries or improve quality of life in your workplace, but has enough money in the budget for new high-def monitors in the office that nobody really needed, or suddenly starts driving around in an expensive sports car - you start to feel like its less about how much is or isn't in the budget, or improving technology first, and more like they just don't care about you.
I'm not someone who uses Crunchyroll since I'm generally a dub person and most of the anime I watched on there was subbed at the time, plus I hate their ads inside of each video, note but I can imagine the agitation I'd feel if I were, and if I were paying for this content weekly/monthly, and they came out with this. note
I don't need or want every streaming service in the world to be "expanding" with original content. Netflix started doing its own original series/films and then Hulu and Amazon had to start doing it, and the only successful ventures I've heard of from those were The Tick and The Handmaid's Tale. I'd rather just have Hulu and Netflix keep doing what they're doing than have this become the new fad every streaming service tries. This is how we went from 10-20 channels to having 1000's of channels that no human being could possibly watch in two lifetimes.
From the sound of things, Crunchyroll could be doing other things besides trying to expand with original content and could have been more transparent about all of this. I'm reminded of how CN Real started as an attempt to expand the Cartoon Network brand, and how they tried to sell it with "we can show you more if we go live-action!"
Yeah, no, I'm watching the Cartoon Network because I want to watch cartoons. They didn't need to expand their business or band. They needed to invite fresh talent and actually give action cartoons a chance instead of dropping them at a moment's notice, and to bring back Toonami. They should have tried harder to be the best cartoon network ever.
So in regards to Crunchyroll:
Growing a business < Refining your craft.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!

To be honest, the only reason I bought it up was to explain why the response to it seems more emotional than if it were to debut on Cartoon Network.
