I made this comparison being aware of Boulder Media. I saw the explosion sequences. This is why I kinda have this feel. And a reason for my comparison.
"Scooby Dooby Doo!"Personally, I wish that more of the people playing Megatron would channel David Kaye's Megatron (or just get Kaye himself). I mean, Welker's Megatron was good, but kind of generic, Kaye's is iconic though.
I know David Kaye is iconic for many, but he is not as iconic as Frank Welker, because Welker will always be for many the definitive voice of Megatron. Not that Kaye is a nobody compared to Welker, but Kaye is great in his own right. Do not think too much about it.
"Scooby Dooby Doo!"As much as I like Welker and Cullen I do think that other voice actors should be able to voice these two, I actually once heard a suggestion that Clancy Brown could voice Optimus and...yeah I think that would work.
Welker and Cullen won't be around forever.
And once they get too old, they just won't fit their iconic roles anymore.
That's a problem that most recent incarnations of Optimus have been suffering from. He's supposed to be like Captain Kirk in the Original Star Trek series, not Gandalf from Lord of the Rings (if you want a LOTR parallel, Optimus would be akin to Aragorn).
The character of Optimus is being forced into a certain mold to fit the aging Cullen, instead of going for the sane route and just picking out newer and younger actors for the role.
At least until now.
You're stating that Optimus Prime should be more like Captain Kirk from Star Trek. For me it's funny, because the flashbacks about the Ark on this show in fact do portray him as such (complete with music, situations and speech).
As I said to you this, you must watch the episode "The Journey" ("Sabotage" has a flashback Trek-style, but this is a modified memory).
By the way, I don't mind anyone who voices Optimus Prime or everyone else as long as they are entertaining enough. Jake Tillman (or Foushee) as Prime seems pretty good, and so does Marc Thompson as Megs, Billy Bob Thompson (no relation to Marc) as 'Screamer, Jeremy Levy as Bumbles (noticing a pattern here?)...

"Scooby Dooby Doo!"That's why my Top 3 Optimus incarnations are (in order of preference): Animated, Cyberverse, and G1 (pre-Season 3).
They're everyday joes who have worked their way to the top (give or take, more or less), and they are awesome because of said experiences. Not because of divine providence.
I watched that episode when it aired. It was my first true taste of Cyberverse and definitely got me devoted to watching the series.
And yes, I agree with your last paragraph too.

While IDW Optimus wasn't my favorite incarnation his more flawed personality and morally grey actions were interesting, though I imagine if they made and animated version in a similar vein then some fans would be up up arms.
I find most of David Kaye's Megatrons rather average. His one megatron that actually IS Iconic is Beast Wars Megatron. Unicron Trilogy Megatron is kinda generic villain guy. To be fair I don't blame Kaye for this, the writing of the Unicron Trilogy just never gave him a villain comparable to BW Megs. Still, Kaye did the best with what he had and I wont deny Unicron Trilogy megs has some charm.
And Welker's performance in Prime was awesome. Taking his G1 performance and reshaping into a truly great Megatron.
IDW Prime is a mixed bag for me coz there's moments where they made him too self doubting and he comes across as whiny. He's not... bad, but I could've done with a few less bouts of "Optimus has a crisis of conscience and ponders what he's doing and his burden".

Look, I think Transformers: Cyberverse looks very cool. It's like a cross between G1 and Animated. Examples? Here, here, here, here, here, here and here. One of the reasons I enjoyed the show. I was sold immediately by Boulder Media's style and involvement (don't forget its other works).
Also, Jeremy Levy seems to be a very nice guy. Wanna check those podcasts and interviews with him? Look here, here and here.

"Scooby Dooby Doo!"My favourite Megatron is still Corey Burton.
Bite my shiny metal ass.I share your opinion, too. There's something that fascinates me about Corey Burton's Megatron: suave, yet cruel.
BTW, has someone seen the links I've posted?
"Scooby Dooby Doo!"EDIT: Sorry. Accidental double post.

"Scooby Dooby Doo!"Yep I have! They are very nice :)
Only more thing about Corey Burton's take on Megatron: he sounds very old and experienced, which makes Animated Megatron to nice foil to Animated Rookie Optimus.
I also think Corey Burton's voice fits the IDW version of Megatron pretty well.

Bite my shiny metal ass.Oh, forgot about the second link to check it out. It's fixed now. Take a look, everyone.
"Scooby Dooby Doo!"And for some reason, the background art looks like Samurai Jack to me.
"Scooby Dooby Doo!"Corey Burton, in my opinion, is the King of Megatron voices and will be a hard guy to top.
You two have already said everything I love about the guy, and really, I can only just ring around the rosy one more time.
Experienced, elderly, yet still able to kick ass effortlessly. That's what Megatron's character should be.
Frank Welker can't quite pull that off and comes off as more of a brute. (But try telling the GEEWUNNERs that.)

Maybe Welker's Megatron was supposed to be a brute?
I mean, his big plan for taking over Cybertron was walk into City Hall and tell them to give all their shit to him.
He's a smart guy, but not a subtle one. He can speak eloquently (as evidenced by the original decepticon movement before it became violent and how he played Orion Pax), but he'll never sound classy.
Of course, this relates entirely to Prime Megatron. You may have been speaking of all Welker played Megatrons.
One Strip! One Strip!Wow. There are some dudes there I never even knew played Megatron.
Didn't realize he had two different actors for Energon.
I also assumed he was still David Kaye for Cybertron as well.
Did I miss Armada in there, or was it not listed?
One Strip! One Strip!Totally wasn't listed. I don't know why.
But hey, take a look here.

"Scooby Dooby Doo!"Yeah, there he is.
So like I said, I'm genuinely surprised it wasn't him in Cybertron. I figured he was there for the entire not trilogy.
One Strip! One Strip!
The Danger Mouse (2015) comparison is oddly, yet appropriately specific. Boulder Media is, in fact, the in-house Irish animation studio responsible for animating that show and Cyberverse.
