That’s something you’ve got to look out for yourself, but here are some pointers:
- If your text effects another player or their NPC, then your word is not law. You need the other player to consent to that action.
- Do not single-handedly solve episodes. This is Tropers The Series, not Galaxy The Series.
- Do not pose easy, out of the blue fixes to problems. This is why Arceus is an issue. He just lets us out of prison. That isn’t fun for the other Tropers.

We actually did do that in the recent camping episode
, but I'd be up for doing it again sometime.

So, I and some other players on the Discord came up with some guidelines for newcomers. They're not ironclad or anything, and we're not trying to target anyone with them, but they're worth sticking to if you want to have minimal problems with the thread.
In no particular order:
- Communicate with the other players, and don't be rude to anyone. If you have Discord, we recommend you ask for an invite to the Tropers The Series server. If you don't, that's still okay, as we have this discussion thread. You might also be PMed about the thread. Wherever you're talking, don't be a dick and don't ignore what experienced players tell you.
- Don't add unnecessary NPCs. As a general rule, if the plot or scene or gag would work with one less NPC, remove one of the NPCs. It's Tropers The Series after all, and 99% of the fun comes from interacting with the other players. NPCs are fine if they serve a role in the story, but shouldn't be there for the sake of being there.
- Another good guideline would be "Introduce your player character and let them find their feet before you add any NPCs".
- Don't be too OP, don't just "solve" plot-related troubles instantly. If someone introduces a problem, don't instantly write a solution to it. The goal of Tropers The Series isn't to 'win', it's to create a funny and/or interesting story, and interesting stories don't have complications solved as soon as they arise. Similarly, don't create characters who have the power to instantly solve problems.
- Go along with what the GM does. Each episode has a GM (generally the person who named the episode unless otherwise stated), who decides what major events should happen in the plot. Don't ignore them or try to take over their plot, or try to make it entirely about your characters. You can do your own subplot if you want, but it can't just be you on your own, other players have to take a interest in it. Getting permission from the GM for a subplot is a good idea.
- Don't control other people's characters without permission. People's characters, both player and NPC, are their own, and you shouldn't make them say or do anything without their owner's permission.
- This also applies to things that aren't "controlling" another person's character but still affect them majorly, e.g. killing them off.
- Don't do anything to make other players uncomfortable. You can do almost anything in Tropers The Series, but content that disturbs other players or violates TV Tropes' Content Policy
isn't allowed. Using it as a vehicle for your fetish is right out.
- If something someone else does makes you uncomfortable, speak up about it in discussion (remembering not to be caustic about it) so they can fix it. If it turns into a disagreement, remember rule 1 and always respect the other person.
- On the whole, the ultimate goal of Tropers The Series is to be funny and silly. Unlike other RPs, we're not out to win a campaign or wish fulfil (not that roleplays that do are bad). We're here to take part in a giant, silly, insane improv troupe. If you're laughing, you've already got the basics down.
- On the other hand, there's still plenty of room for serious, heartfelt and even dark moments, as long as they don't cause a full-on Cerebus Syndrome. If someone writes a non-comedic scene, don't come in and deflate it just because it's not to your personal taste. That won't accomplish anything except annoying the person. If you don't like the scene, bring it up (politely) in discussion and see what the other players think.

You didn’t answer my question.
God Characters have existed in this series. Satan, and the Status Quo have both been regulars. But it’s something you need to be extra careful with. Most importantly, you need to be cooperative.
Galaxy, you haven’t been cooperative with the rest of us.
You could have Arceus. You could even have him as a God. But you can’t have him erase away episode problems. Do you understand why that’s a problem for other players?
