Only theoretically in DnD 3rd ed and Pathfinder 2E. DnD also has nonevil lichlike beings such as baelnorn (elven liches) and the Deathless of Eberron are their take on nonevil undead. And in this game you have to rollplay instead of roleplay.

D&D also has Archliches, who are specifically good and noble spellcasters who become liches solely for a noble purpose. The process of turning into one is far more difficult than turning into a typical evil Lich. Instead of a phylactery, you have to create a Soul Jar out of a spellbook and brew a potion loaded with various special enchantments. No easy feats. Then you have to risk death during the transformation.

Disgusted, but not surprisedFor added spice, D&D, specifically Forgotten Realms, had a monster type called the "Good Lich", basically someone who became a Lich for some noble purpose (Absorbed a curse, needing to protect someone/something) and was otherwise good aligned. These Liches were in fact, more powerful than the regular kind. These were later renamed with much less lame name of "Archlich"
Okay, so I've decided to start up new class builds to see how they play.
Herald caller Cleric and a Sorceror.
But Herald Caller Cleric was something I stumbled on, she'll be my Aeon run.
Oh my god, I'm suffering Alt-itis and I haven't even finished the tavern defense yet. This is going to be FUN!
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Rich hedonistic jerk who is hilarious and most likely isn't as mean as he projects himself as. The moment he was complimentary and soft around Ember was the moment I realized he couldn't be all that bad.
Interestingly, I think it's an important detail that Camillia looks down on Ember, like I don't think there's any hidden heart of gold with Camillia at all, she's consistently selfish, classist, and barely hides her blood lust but Daerun actually liking Ember helps establish he's got a heart of gold, which contrasts Camillia.
I THINK Camillia cares about her dad and gets subtly offended on his behalf but something about it feels shallow when I see them interact. It makes me curious as to what exactly the game is building up with her.
The clues are all there, but what are they building up to?
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"
Wait, so I'm hanging out in the tavern, and it just occurred to me how odd it is that the queen or any leader isn't doing anything to ensure Staunton is being treated at least not badly if he's supposed to be atoning for his fuck up, since he mentioned the queen herself voted for him to have a chance to atone.
What the hell is wrong with the crusade's HR department? Irabeth isn't doing shit about this either? This feels like a problem that needs to be addressed somehow.
.....It's demons isn't it? Whatever disease that plagued Daerun's past was caused by something demonic. Sounds like it. Dude seems traumatized and copes by acting like a rich asshole.

Already maxed out everyone's mastery level in Street Fighter 6's World Tour except for JP, Akuma and Bison (and too lazy to learn from those 3) but Elena's still not yet available and as for Warframe, the next big update's (debut of new Warframe Temple and the debut of the Technocyte Coda nemesis bosses) still on March 19 so need to play something else until March 19.
Also gonna replicate my previous Lich/Death Knight run w/ the same decisions but this time I'm using a Fighter/Eldritch Knight to make full use of merged spells. The Angel run taught me how valuable that feature is.
This dialogue is what I was referring to earlier when I recommended you choose No-Hopia.

Wrong power since it's not Orochi blood. And besides, Heihachi has the most evil villain power of all w/c he shares w/ Hulk Hogan: Creative Control, brother.
Also w/ the Gold Dragon run, Severus the necro merc will be a Reanimator alchemist and I made sure to plan his build ahead of time since either I had the wrong assumption all along on how upgrading alchemist bombs work in the tabletop or Owlcat changed them for balancing purposes.

FUCK YEAH!!!!! AT LAST!!!!!!!!!
Hey, I did quite well, didn't even lose a single defense.
Oh I'd like to thank everyone in this thread for their support, including the ones who contributed by accident.
Now I can finally progress the plot. Tyranny triumphant!

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"

All that gets turned on its head in Pathfinder 2E when the Book of The Dead sourcebook was published w/c introduced sentient skeletons as a playable race as well as provide playable undead options by giving the option to turn the core undead types (ghost, ghoul, lich, mummy, vampire, zombie) into archetypes w/c is 2E's equivalent to prestige classes and none of these have alignment requirements.
All in all, was able to successfully thread the needle and make a True Neutral Lich/Death Knight who still does genuinely good actions, was able to get the best good endings for most of the party members and loves Paying Evil Unto Evil especially against Lawful Evil beings.
Fascinating, I love all this lich lore.
So you can technically play a good guy Lich in a vague sense.
