Got this trailer two days ago when I went to see Incredibles 2.

The film is apparently directed by Eli Roth and written by Eric Kripke. And is apparently based on a 1970's children's Gothic Horror novel that's set in the 50's.

Ten-year-old Lewis goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house that contains a mysterious ticktock noise. When Lewis accidentally awakens the dead, the town's sleepy facade magically springs to life with a secret world of witches and warlocks.

This...honestly looks like it could be the first good movie of Eli Roth's filmography.

[up] Disagree pretty vehemently. Cabin Fever is a laugh riot, and Hostel: Part II is one of the few good films of its cycle.

But, yeah, this looks decent.

I've never really got into Eli Roth's frat boy filmmaking style, so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Nice to see Roth branching out, anyway. This looks interesting.

I loved this book when I was a kid, but hearing that Eli Roth was directing it...made me wary, to say the least. But the trailer actually looks pretty good, and feels (tonally) close to what the book was going for (I think. I haven't read it in a while.)

An Eli Roth directed children’s movie sounds like something you’d read in a game of Cards against Humanity.

Huh...I think I read this book when I was a kid. I defintely remember reading another book in the same series The Eyes of the Killer Robot.

It had an impact on me, not unlike the original illustrations of the Scary Stories to tell in the Dark series.

Eli Roth directed a remake of Death Wish that everyone expected to be ultra violent only for that not to be the case. Combined with this, his Torture Porn days may be behind him.

This is written by Eric Kripke, who usually does good work. Still a damn shame about Timeless.

But any movie with Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, and evil wizard Kyle Mac Lachlan sounds good to me.

Saw it on Saturday, the UK got advanced previews for it this weekend. Was actually pretty good.
