Or to collect comics in a similar way. At the end of the month put X-men, Uncanny X-men and related titles in one volume.

Its like I said before: if you want to read any Marvel or DC titles, then you can't just be a fan of specific characters. You can't just read a batman comic or a Spider-man comic and expect to just get stories about those specific characters and their supporting casts. A lot of the time there will be crossovers, and events, and references to the larger "universe". So, if you want to read those comics then you have to be a fan of Marvel or DC in general, and not just certain characters.

I think that's why a lot of people find japanese "manga" comics so appealing now. They have continuity and story arcs, but they are mostly self contained. They don't usually have crossovers. So, if you just want to read about (for example) Akira, without having to read various other series, then you can do that. Also, these manga usually have actual endings. Although there are exceptions like Dragon Ball. Its nice to read a story knowing that what happens actually matters, and won't just be undone or forgotten about later. And its nice to know there will eventually be a conclusion.

I think a good idea would be to let various writers have their own specific versions of the characters. Let one writer write Superman for a couple years, and give his story a conclusion. Then, bring in a new writer who will start a new Superman continuity. This would give the writers more freedom with how to write the characters, and it would also make the stories more unpredictable. You could kill off any character, or marry any character, and then the next continuity can do something different with them, without having to resort to retcons.

And you could have a separate Justice league comic, that would be set in its own separate continuity. There they could still have team ups, and epic battles, and stuff like that. For people who like that stuff. Just an idea.

[up]The other thing you could do is have a Justice League book were each arc is anchored by a big star like Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman, but the bulk of the cast are second stringers that can't hold down their own book.

I wouldn’t mind if they had justice league as a replacement for event books. Maybe once a year they do a storyline highlighting a specific aspect or character of the DC universe.
