I couldn't blame people who were badly burned on FT for disliking this just for how much the characters seem like re-treads of Natsu and Lucy (what with another blue cat named Happy and all), but I also admit it's a good start.
I did like the Sci-fi twist as well, but time will tell if this becomes Fairy Tail in space or not.
One Strip! One Strip!Seems he's going for a more Final Fantasy scifi/fantasy in a setting like Kingdom Hearts
Seems he's still obsessed with Fanservice as well.
Hopefully, he keeps it in check this time.
One Strip! One Strip!.... so Hiro does Sci-fi now. I gotta admit I did not expect that!
More than anything else I loved the design of the Demon King. He had one of the more unique designs from Mashima series.
Mashima's sameface is going to be a problem. The busty Wendy look-alike in the opening splash page looks like she has hoofed robotic legs which is interesting. The old guy looks like Silvers Rayleigh from One Piece. I also spy an Erza look alike.
Let's be cautiously hopeful for how well this can turn out.
The thing I got from this chapter was that it looks like Mashima has been watching Westworld. And played Breath of the Wild, given the design of that Dragon Ship.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...Amusingly I've wanted to read a sci-if manga with space, & tech like this, hopefully aliens too.
Sad Mashima is the one writing this.
He does prove he's really good with nonhuman characters, the Demon King has one awesome design that's for sure.
I do dislike the concepts he's reusing though. Making Happy the mascot again when he could have just drawn a new one, using a lot of friends again, & would it really have been so hard to give Shiki a different haircut or something?
It's funny, a lot of mangeka do have the tendency to reuse designs but people are particularly critical in Mashima's case for obvious reasons.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."yea, not gonna touch this. After Rave and Fairy Tail, I'm not really fond of Mashima's writing anymore.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.As someone said in the other thread, it'd be kinda cool if this story had no actual antagonist and was just a space adventure. That probably wouldn't make for a 60 volume story, but I'm fine with that.
I admittedly chuckled at the mag cover. "A world you have never seen before" − they could have added "with characters you have seen before though."

Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.I didn't notice that. I did notice how this girl did look like an adult Wendy though. That's really cheap Mashima.
Anyway, like I said, I don't blame anyone for bailing on this, nor will I fault anyone for calling it trash even if it turns out to be good. Mashima pissed away every ounce of goodwill he had with Fairy Tail.
But, just as I was dumb enough to stick with a story I stopped enjoying before, I'll probably stick with this for a while out of curiosity. At the very least, I'm wondering if it will hit the same lows that FT did. If it does, I'll bail out (hopefully), and if not, I'll enjoy it as a guilty pleasure.
One Strip! One Strip!Well you prolly can.
Ya just have to do everything Striclty Formula as in "Explore space, find new world, meet new people, explore new setting, villain attacks, defeat villain, after party, good byes, go back to space & look back on previous adventure, explore space, find new world, meet new people, explore new setting, villain attacks, defeat villain, after party, good byes, go back to space & look back on previous adventure" rinse & repeat.
The only question is will people eat that up enough to support it for 60+ volumes?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."x5 Slim and I agreed on something? The end of days is nigh!
In all seriousness though I enjoyed FT as a dumb junk food shounen series so I'll probably enjoy this series too.
Only one human on the cover page has a completely different face from ones Mashima has done before. FOR A FUN GAME SEE IF YOU CAN SEE WHICH ONE THAT IS!!
A select few creators we know use Same Face over and over again, the creator of Saint Seiya as an example. ... so how come when Hiro Mashima does it, we get outraged?
I wish, if this is animated one day, that they do something different with the overall design, editing, and animation so it at least looks/feels LESS like Fairy Tail than the manga does.

Basically, in my particular case it's Fandom Myopia. I liked Fairy Tail, and it let me down, even when I continually set my expectations low, so I just don't let Mashima get away with anything. I'm basically bitter.
We don't have a Fandom Myopia trope huh? I thought for sure we did.
One Strip! One Strip!O Oooooooh look! Rebecca's got a Youtube channel and is looking for more subscribers! :D HIRO'S USING THE INTERNET IN THIS MANGA! Moving on with the times.
Heh, what we've never agreed on anything else before & what's the face?
Its simple, Mashima has kinda lost a lot of goodwill from people & has become Snark Bait as a result.
It happens to authors & such, how their received affects your perception of them. With a well-liked author your more likely to view their future endeavors in a most positive or lenient light. With a more disparaged author your more likely to view their future endeavors in a more negative or critical light.
I heavily dislike that feature about her. "Let me have more views" people are so fucking annoying.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Because its way more noticeable with Mashima as this is his fifth manga series and he's done updated designs for his Orage and Rave Master characters.
And the answer to the fact is the scarred dude. He has Elfman eyes but the rest of his facial structure is different.

I was being sarcastic about being excited. It comes off as hyping onto a trend that's popular with the youngins.
What is she even getting views for anyway?
Either it's gonna be for something really dumb, or something really tragic.
One Strip! One Strip!Well his face is not a pretty boy or attractive girl so of course he'd look a little different.
Yeah I get you were being sarcastic don't worry. I mean seriously, putting in subscribers of all things.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."What does any online personality try to get views for? To get more income so they can live on their "only job" creating online videos that they dropped out of school for!
I've noticed a trend towards modern media (like Youtube) popping up recently in manga and anime.
It popped up in the new Gegege no Kitaro as well.
Now if Mashima does something INTERESTING with the Internet in this story, something that doesn't resemble anything in Fairy Tail, I would at least have some respect. Like ....... I dunno, having the main characters fight for free speech against a corporation, or compare other planets' internets and how they're different than the one Rebecca comes from.
Hiro Mashima's, the creator of both Fairy Tail and Rave Master, new series. This thread is for discussion of it.
Honestly, the first chapter wasn't bad. The sci-fi feel is different, even if the characters look like character's we've already seen, and "friendship is everything" is still clearly going to be in affect. I actually thought the ending was well done.
