Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku Valkyria

I'm actually surprised that this Light Novel didn't receive a discussion before. Yeah, I understand the premise is pretty much "Insert Random Generic Isekai Plot" here. But I heard that this LN is a better version of Isekai Smartphone. So why not make a thread to discuss this LN instead? Since the LN will receive an Anime adaptation. Here's the basic plot for the LN taken from MAL:

"Some urban legends are best left untested! Yuuto Suou gets more than he bargained for when he joins his childhood friend Mitsuki Shimoya in testing out an urban legend. When he uses his phone to take a picture of himself with the local shrine's divine mirror, he is whisked off into another world—one heavily steeped in the lore of the old Norse myths.

Using his knowledge gained from school and from his solar-powered smartphone, he has the chance to bring the Wolf Clan, the same people who cared for him, to prominence, all while earning the adoration of a group of magic-wielding warrior maidens known as the Einherjar."

So the English version name is "Master of Ragnarok & Blessers of Einherjar"...Looks like the writer of the LN tries to take a cue of the Nordic Mythologies so yeah. Like I said, despite being a generic Isekai, I heard that this LN is a better version of Isekai Smartphone because of the MC soooo yeah...

"Better than Isekai Smartphone" is a lot like saying "Well, at least he's not literally Hitler". Gods, I hated that series so much. It actually managed to make me angry.

Though I suppose that they won't have God endow the protagonist with bullshit unlimited power, so I suppose that's an improvement right there. I'm going to need a bit more than that to actually put faith in an Isekai series, however. The entire genre stinks of laziness and incompetence.

Oh, you weren't being rude (pretty sure I was being more rude). It's just a bit of a case of Damning With Faint Praise.

Anything on translations? Or will I have to check out usual "perfectly legal sources"?

Havent check on the translations yet. But will do at a later time. There might be some Youtube channels that do some readings regarding the novels... But im unsure about that.

I have watched the first episode.

On the down side... it's pretty much playing the worst of the "Standard Isekai Harem Series" tropes dead straight.

On the plus side it does seem like that it's using the idea of having access to a database of modern knowledge impacting an ancient world idea with some degree of insight.

On the WTF side, they keep throwing around random Norse stuff but the palace seems to be based off of The Great Ziggurat of Ur and a lost of the other buildings seems to be similarly inspired by reconstructions of Mesopotamian architecture.

I think so... Yeah, this is a rather generic isekai but I'm still going to give it a bit of a chance... But thought about it... I'm not sure if this anime has hope. Though I have to admit that Felicia is waifu

And yeah, I actually start pretty weird... They made a Nordic references but I don't think it's setting is related to Nordic at all.

just finished episode 2

Huh...There is a drama regarding inheritance and the new enemy appeared in the last minutes of the episode

Episode 3 is out:

The new characters, the Twins, now join Yuuto's harem/team. And the new character... Alexis or something like that seems like an annoying person at the first glance IMO.

Just finished Episode 4:

And the war between the Wolf clan and the Lightning clan is starting. I'll agree with Yuuto regarding Steinfor or whatever his name was. Also, a little bit drama regarding Linnea wanting to marry Yuuto but it solved a bit quickly...Ah well, I'm cool with that.

Forgot to say this but just finished Episode 5:

Yuuto is now on the battle against the Lightning clan and unsurprisingly, he won. But with his own wits I guess and a little bit help from one of the guardians . But at the same time, I'm really confused on what happened in the beginning part.

Not so long ago, I saw Episode 6:

And it's mostly about the Hot Springs episode in the first half and the girls want to gain his attention. It's also the episode where we were introduced by a new character, a slave girl who actually can read. And she is useful to Yuuto since he tries to educate most of the people in the Wolf Clan. Also, I noticed that there is a cabin like structure in this Episode which is fascinating I guess since I thought Cabins didn't existed around BC period.

In today's episode:

Right now the main villain of the OP shows up and boy, Poor Communication Kills here. Also, I'm becoming intelligent now... So Crossbow are used for long ranged battle and camels apparently existed in Scandinavia land. I'll note that shit.

Today's episode 8:

It's truly a breather episode compared to previous one. And right now it focuses on the Slave Girl attending the school for the first half and the blacksmith named Ingrid in the second half. The funny moment in this episode is when Ingrid slaps Yuuto because he's too dense.

Episode 9:

Today's episode focuses on the real world. Also, why on earth some of the characters in real world look pretty familiar in Yuuto's world? And yeah, more info dump regarding Nordic mythology yadda yadda yadda... And there's a girl that has a similar look with Yuuto's love interest in his original world near the end of the episode so yeah...

Episode 10:

More interactions with the girl who looks like Yuuto's love interest and she is one of the most powerful person in her eras yadda yadda yadda. And it seems that the Lightning Clan and the Panther Clan are collaborating to fight against Yuuto. And goddamn Yuuto's army now is in high stakes right now. Then again, I'm sure he could pull this out in next episode cuz whynaut.

Episode 11:

The battles are nothing spectacular with the exception of the battle against the Lightning Clan patriarch and the Wolf Clan knight Sigrun (At least from what I recall) and Yuuto is an alright strategist and leader. Speaking of him, he now returns to the real world. Yay I guess?

I haven't seen the anime but Isekai Smartphone's light novels are actually good though. It got a terrible adaptation from what I hear but the source material itself is said to be pretty decent. Meanwhile I've seen nothing but hate for this and from what I can gather from this video that talks about why this series is bad I'm not seeing any redeeming factors for it.

Let me guess... This is from Mother's Basement right?...Yeah, the series isnt that spectacular IMO (Probably the redeeming qualities for me is that at least the MC uses his brain a bit and Felicia is hot. But outside of that... Nothing is spectacular). For that statement, its from a guy in one of the discord server. Also, think I give Isekai Smartphone a shot at a later time.

Yeaaaaa....

Final Episode:

Now at least our MC here already picked a girl even if it's the most blandest of them all and seemingly have fun with their date. And meanwhile, in another world, the Wolf Clan is almost devastated. Although at the end of the day, Yuuto and his girl manages to kiss and return to another world to rule the Wolf Clan again.

So, thoughts on the series overall? Not pretty good due to the bland storytelling that the anime had and sometimes it could be forgettable. But not the worst anime I've ever seen as there are some merits that I could enjoy from this anime just like Death March. And I'll give a credit when it's due: The protagonist at least choose a girl that he loves and at least he uses his brain to solve some troubles instead relying on magic or supernatural powers to solve his problem for himself and I found Felicia to be hot. Everything else? Meh. Though I'm okay if it got second season.
