For those who want to know Vault 76 was designed to open after 20 years after a nuclear war. [1]
I'm not jumping aboard it. It's enough to use the context clues of the video and the lore to say this is probably about retaking the wasteland in the early days. It might not be, but we've got a control vault and the base building was the big thing they did with FO 4 that wasn't in previous games outside of modding.
I think a full MMO is unlikely given the F4 style graphics featured in the trailer. We have Jason Schreier tweeting
:
Because I've seen some people misinterpreting this tweet, I did NOT say this is an MMO. I just know it's not strictly single-player.
This is where the online speculation is mostly rooted in, but assuming Schreier is correctnote it'd be wrong to jump from 'has online elements' to 'is something in the vein of TESO'. Especially as Battlecry, while multiplayer, was not an MMO.

I like Fallout 3 and 4 and New Vegas - but a little more quest variety/branching paths would be nice.
Also, you know, a version that doesn't [redacted]ing crash every ten [redacted]ing seconds.
So, IIRC:
- Fallout 1 you're a guy who leaves his Vault for good and becomes a legend
- Fallout 2 you were born into the tribe who worships/was born from the guy from the first game
- Fallout 3 you're a kid who spent his childhood in a Vault that was supposed to stay sealed
- Fallout 4 you're a parent who was cryogenically frozen for 200 years and came out to find the old world gone
- New Vegas you're some courier with terrible LCK stat
- Fallout 76 you're somebody who was in a Vault for 20 years that was absolutely meant to stay closed for 20 years
So this would pretty much be the first time a Vault did exactly what it was supposed to do and you don't get forced out, or forced to leave in search of resources.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Some recon elements of the Enclave might be roaming about at least.
But seriously, if this is another mainline entry in the franchise, I hope they learn from their mistakes in Fallout 4. No more super-simplified dialogue system. I want to be able to actually roleplay a bit in my RPG. And while the perks system was okay, I'd like to have skills and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points back, again to have more meaningful dialogue choices.

Fallout 4 was one of my favourite games of the past couple of years, so I'm exited to see what's next. I seem to be in the minority on this, but I loved the settlement construction mechanics and probably spent 90% of my game time just building shanty-towns across Boston.
Kind of surprised we are seeing new Fallout stuff before Elder Scrolls VI, but that doesn't mean that we won't be hearing something at E3.
I'm a bit worried about the online aspects of Fallout 76, however. I usually don't enjoy those sorts of games, and I especially hate how you are often penalized for trying to play them solo. I'll probably give it a fair chance though, if it looks fun.
"Ah yes, roving bands of Raiders are an ever-present blight on the West Virginian countryside."
I live in a small village in north central WV. For most of the past 18 years that I've been here, everything's been pretty quiet on the major crime front. Within the past year or two it got slightly more dangerous. As in a group of Ohio teens stole a car, joyrode right to the edge of town, crashed at the bridge, and had a final stand against the cops right there. Oh, and then a convict escaped a local prison and they spent an entire day manhunting in our area to find him. I got out to work before the blockade went up and by the time I came home it was down.
Compared to other places, we're downright calm. I'm betting what Phipps meant was the sheer lack of civilization in some places. You can actually go out and get lost in the wilderness if you know where to go. And there's a lot of places to go like that, even with the strip mining in the mountains.
ETA: It'd be pretty funny if we get to see three headed deer chasing squirrels the size of cats.

While I meant the wilderness, I'll be honest, depending on where you go the opiod and meth gangs in the region are pretty Raidery.
:)
Plus there's plenty of communities made of scrap.
I'm envisioning an abandoned bunch of Poseidon Oil Refineries, Mirelurk Invested Ohio River with abandoned coal barges, a bunch of Psycho and Jet Labs next to the ruins of Marshall University, abandoned coal mines (find some secret Vaults), and Charred Town.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I know radiation is magic in fallout but would we see that many major mutations only 20 years after? The survivor in honest hearts saw some vault monsters but only early stage mutations (but that covered what, 30 years of time?)
Hoping this isn't just a survival game or a battle royal... And there's some plot in there....

Pre-emptively creating this. Unlikely that we'll hear much more until E3.
EDIT: embedding youtube videos is my kryptonite
DOUBLEDIT: Has a page now.
HINDSIGHT EDIT: haha oh my god this game turned into such a trainwreck holy shit
