there's clearly the sound of the Imperial March playing on the speakers, which...I think this means that the Imperial March is canonically an actual thing that exists in the series?
Pretty sure its been explicitly the Empire's in-universe anthem since early on in Rebels.

That's a sword. A lightsaber would have deflected that.

I don't see what's dumb about it. The name "Han Solo" is ridiculously on-the-nose and the scene justified it in a neat way.
And Todd is absolutely a hipster. His feed is nothing but performative disgust at whatever's popular that week. I still can't get over the time he said he punched a Jurassic World poster after walking out of the movie because he hated it so much, like that doesn't make him look like a crazy person.
The name is the problem with prequels.
The unnecessary need to explain everything so the protagonist can feel "special."
Seriously this is a franchise with a Sith Lord named after a pregnant hen, we didn't need to learn the origin of his fucking last name. That was some narm-ass "coolz" bullshit of the highest order.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yeah, sorry, I just don't see it that way at all. He was an orphan, he didn't have a family, so that Imperial officer gave him a name that reflects that fact. Makes sense to me.
What did I say that's ableist?
Jurassic World is one of the most popular and successful movies ever.

This. Ableist. Please don't make negative connections towards mental illness there.
So was Transformers and Avatar. Jurassic World also had a huge backlash of people calling it out on a nonsensical plot and gigantic amounts of misogyny, at least from my understanding. Nowadays I see nothing but mockery towards it.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Sorry. I should've said "bratty," "unbelievably childish," or "ridiculous."
Do those two really belong together? At the time, Avatar was quite well-regarded.
I mean, it's not a great movie, but "nonsensical plot and gigantic amounts of misogyny" are tremendous exaggerations.
As someone who watched Jurassic World, Todd was if anything underplaying it.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Take it to the Jurassic World thread. Frankly everything I've heard about the film and the other works of Trevorrow makes me glad that he's not doing anything Star Wars related anymore (and there we circle back to being on topic!).
Anyways, Solo, I'm kinda mad now that people were slamming the actor so badly? Because the guy was fucking good. Not perfectly Harrison Ford but he's a younger Han Solo, he shouldn't be perfect. Frankly my biggest issue is that the film wrote Han as sometimes being a bit too perfect with his gambits. Nothing too objectionable but I guess I wish some of his plans would've come off with a slight hitch or two, aside from Lando getting pissed at the Falcon getting scraped.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? You have no idea how badly I want to argue about this but the angel on my shoulder is saying saying 'no dont'
Regardless, hearing that they made Han a little too perfect doesn't surprise me too much, given how unlikable he was at times in the original trilogy makes me think they're planning over successive films build up his roguishness, start out nice but gradually make him a scoundrel, but the way the film has performed makes me think this film will be a 'Solo' outing

have a listen and have a link to my discord serverTodd rarely comments on things in the same week they become popular, because of wanting to avoid hype crowds and hot takes
. His remarks on Jurassic World came months after the film premiered.

I saw it and actually really enjoyed it. Haven't been huge on the Disney Star Wars films, but this stuck out as a fun action-adventure romp that also had a lot of emotional depth, something I didn't expect from a Han Solo film. Sure, the character himself comes across as a bit of a dick at times, but that's more of a problem with the fact that it's a Solo film. Of course he'll act like a dick. Alden does a good job as him and helps sell a lot of the most emotional moments.
I also enjoyed Donald Glover as Lando. He fits very snugly into the suave personality of the character, but this really leads to me wishing they had used him more. He seems a bit underdeveloped in this movie? Especially compared to people like Beckett (who is never going to appear again, making the large focus on him kind of pointless for an origin film). No one really has a bad performance here, though some are either weaker than others or not featured enough for my liking.
The explanations for fan questions are definitely better here than in The Last Jedi or Rogue One. Instead of handwaving the issue away, we get to see what's become of Darth Maul in one of my favorite moments of the Disney films. It's cool to see one of these movies promote fans to watch more than just the big screen stuff. Sure, the "Han Solo" name origin was a bit underwritten, but, in my honest opinion, it wasn't as cringy as it could have been.
I do have a few problems, however. The most damaging of these is how much the film focuses on pandering to fans. It's less of an issue here than it was in Rogue One (where it was so bad that the pandering ended up being the best parts), but it's still incredibly noticeable and it took away from what could have been a great standalone film. Along with this, the first half of Solo is noticeably more dull and slow than the second half, mainly thanks to how most of the action scenes are placed in the final sections of the film. This was most likely due to the swap in directors, but, overall, the production issues didn't hurt the film too much.
Really, just an all around fun Star Wars experience that doesn't try to be too much like the originals or be too gritty. It's what I want to see more of from these films, so because of that Solo is most likely the best of these Disney movies. 7/10.
