Manga still sells well so its not like people have lost interest necessarily.

It just became as is with people really cooling down.

[up][up][up] And yet all the changes to fix that slow pace made it probably the best season so far. A pity it's ignored, really.

Uh, has Geoff talked about Happy Sugar Life? I thought a Yandere anime would pique his interest for some reason… or maybe I'm confusing him with someone else…

True. Do you watch Attack on Titan for

A. Hopeless characters being attacked and tragically eaten by scary, killer monsters.

B. People standing or sitting around, talking?

I thought so. Even the S3 OP song is a soft-rock tune rather than heavy metal with a germanic-style chorus.

I mean, it's not like the first 9 episodes were just people talking, there was still plenty of action and gorgeous animation (see Levi vs. Kenny in episode 2). But I guess the second half of the season will be more in line with what people expect…

Little late, but 7 anime on Netflix recommended by Geoff.

Note that Silver Spoon is not on Netflix anymore and this video is based on the US availability list.

What to do when S3 is over but you still wanna talk about My Hero Academia? ... talk about CHARACTER EVOLUTION instead. This video explains why Bakugo is now the absolute most popular character in the manga/anime even after being introduced in the most unappealing and evil way possible for a supporting character.

I still find it odd he's the most popular character. Like, not that he's a BAD character by any means. He's excellent, but it surprises me he took first twice now

I do love the modern way of handling English dubs, but as he said there were some good self-made English dubs that were memorable.

"Of the past" and "remember" are loose terms because he includes some of the more recent English-translated and recorded openings from the likes of Ouran, the Dragonball Z shows, and One Piece. But then I suppose that's a testament to how old I am to the point where I consider those openings to feel current.

A somewhat late Halloween special about Monster Girls and their surge in popularity across Japanese media.

On Goblin Slayer, first impressions and how misplaced sexualization ruined the first episode of an otherwise good series. In particular, he breaks down the blocking of the rape scene to show the anime went out of its way to make it the most sexual possible, undermining the supposed actual point.

It actually convinced me to maybe give the anime a chance. The way most fanboys talk and defend the series it just convinced me more and more it is just as trashy and pandering as I was expecting. Mother's Basement made me think it might be something worth it episode 2 onward, after all.

Bless this man and this analysis. I've spend weeks arguing with fans about the use of rape in this show, and it was never fun because of how some of them defended it. Luckily I think Geoff tackled everything that needed to be said about it with grace.

As far as it being worth watching in general, eh. I'm caught up with the manga for the sake of discussion, but unless you don't have any issues with the world-building I wouldn't stick around for it.

but unless you don't have any issues with the world-building I wouldn't stick around for it.

Did you make a typo somewhere? Are you saying if there was an issue you would stick around? What does that mean?

Anyway, the reason I said I might give a chance is because "what if RPG world was real" is a fun angle in itself. It is a bit overplayed nowadays, but just the fact this 'isn't' an isekai already helps. I probably have better animes to watch, but Geoff's video at least convinced me to not dismiss it out of hand anymore.

[up]To be fair, that is literally his job. If I am not mistake he doesn't have a dayjob, right? Light novels don't take that much time to read, anyway. Probably could read a volume in a day if he wanted, which is all he would have needed, as everything past it is not relevant to the video.

Honestly not sure how popular GS is anyway .-. Like I think majority of regular posters in thread for it don't think its great, just that it would be good enough if there wasn't trashy stuff in it

One thing that always amuse me of people defending Goblin Slayer is them invoking other big works like Berserk and Game of Thrones. As if these weren't criticized for the very same thing also.

I'm saying that I don't like the world-building, so I found very little to like about Goblin Slayer as a result. If you don't have any problems like I did, knock yourself out.

Mother's Basement made me think it might be something worth it episode 2 onward, after all.

I started from Episode 2 myself, mostly because I heard enough about the first episode that I was comfortable skipping it (that, and I read the first chapter of the manga up until the infamous scenes happened and I dropped it immediately afterward), and I think the show is actually better for it. Instead of getting front-loaded with excessive Mood Whiplash darkness, you get a bit more eased into the world of Goblin Slayer at a pace that I feel works better for its tone. In fact I'd say Episode 4 does a much better job selling the "darkness" of the setting better than the first episode does by a long shot.

The only thing you really miss out on is how Slayer meets the Priestess, but the 2nd episode does mention it too.

As he mentions in the video Psycho Pass does have a rape scene in its very first episode but its not criticized very much if at all because the scene is not at all sexualized like Goblin Slayer's was and does and instead pans away so we can connect the dots on what happened. The sound enough sells the horror of that scene.

If I recall correctly Akane also checks on the victim later on to make sure she is recovering. I have heard mumbling that Priestess wants to check on Fighter to see if shes doing better but that doesn't seem to of occurred yet.

As he mentioned it seems very much like the issue was the manga and anime artists and animators fucked up as the original Light Novel handles the rape scene much better.

I blame the artists.

Who’s right mind it was to draw onscreen monster on human rape I’ll never know.
