…Did Miyazaki really savage his own son's movie? >.>
Anyway, the part about the transition between the villagers and Shreku's life actually has some good points. Unironically.
"…Did Miyazaki really savage his own son's movie? >.>"
Yes. Not like he was the only one though. The highest praise Goro Miyazaki's first film got seems to be "It was average." And it goes downhill from there.
The anime industry is pretty cutthroat, apparently.
The Japanese can be absolutely ruthless, even to their own family sometimes. It's one of the rougher aspects of their culture.
Finally a youtuber recognizes the sheer genius legacy that Shreku brought. Truly a game-changer in the field of anime.
Well, serious talk, I love Shrek, but that might need the disclaimer that I grew up with the Brazilian dub, which is infinitely funnier.
And no nostalgia goggles here, I compared.
The Brazilian dub of Shrek is the only Brazilian dub I can ever accept as better than the original. That was a work of art right there. It's almost a miracle, really, that a country with such bad dubs made something so good.

Okay, I take offence to that: there's plenty of good dubs from Brazil. Hercules, Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball, Toy Story, the DCAU.
I won't deny the quality of dubs has been getting increasingly worse since about 2005 or so, especially when it comes to translations and sound mixing (Christ, the mixing in Avatar is the stuff of nightmares), but don't go dumping everything in the same basket.

Honestly, I dislike almost all of them. Barring the occasional good voice actor (the guy who does Goku, for example, does a stellar job of that), I find them all really weak, even the ones from before 2005. I grew up watching all of those you mentioned in the 90s, and quite frankly, I find them really bad these days.
Although admittedly the Disney dubs were rarely actually bad, just not particularly good either.
Fair enough, I'll agree to disagree.
Fair enough.
For what it's worth, sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean to do that.
Are you both Brazilian?
It's cool .
Edit: Me and Gaon are.

I'm with Muffins, honestly, in that we have some pretty good dubs, particularly when it comes to animation.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I'm Brazilian as well, yes.
Ya know, it always confuses me why there are so many hateful jerk directors who direct heartwarming stuff with heroic main characters and such
I mean, if you know what loving people looks like and apparently appreciate that kind of behavior in protagonists, why ARE you a such a jerk?
Maybe its just blatant hypocrasy and myopia. They want people being loving and nice to them, while they themself do and say whatever the hell they like to people.

Because they know what kind of storytelling the audiences will respond well to. And also, they probably don't see themselves as being assholes.

"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."I think the answer is simpler: it is just pretty easy to preach something without having to walk the walk.
I mean, those two are not mutually exclusive.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."Geoff just posted a "What's In an OP?" for Mob Psycho 100 season 2:
just like the first season OP, the second season OP contains tons of easter eggs and references too
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistGeoff recently posted a video, this time about a classic anime, Initial D
Half the video is spent discussing the sound effects. .... not sure why....
I've only watched the anime, not the video, and I can understand why. I was dubious that the anime would be able to capture the feeling of speed with oldish animation that would have that high a budget. The audio sold it far harder than I thought it would.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."
Today Mother's Basement covers the OP of the anime classic Shrek!
Shame the rest of the light novels haven't been adapted yet. I want to see the Rescue Donkey Arc!
