Okay, please tell me this is a spiritual successor to Men in Tights because this trailer feels like a parody Robin Hood film, and I kinda love it.

????

This looks like Zorro with a Bow set in some sort of half-modern fantasy world inspired by Italy.

Also, another one? The last one just turned up at Netflix over here (haven't bothered to watch it yet).

It feels like a blend of Arrow and Assassin's Creed. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it seems like most of the action is "jump and shoot" and not particularly inspiring because of it. I don't mind the idea of a more "medieval urban" take on Robin Hood, but the tradition is him attacking convoys in the woods. It also seems to lack most of his traditional supporting cast.

I actually used to have a thing for Robin Hood movies....but since the Kevin Costner version (which I like even if the audience has apparently decided that everything Kevin Costner ever did is beneath them) I haven't seen a single adaptation I actually liked. I am not opposed to a more gritty take - hell, outside of the Disney movie, I got into it not through the Errol Flynn version, but through the BBC series (you know, the one who added the Arab sword fighter to the group in the first place), which already was a more gritty take on it. But it feels like they have forgotten what Robin Hood is actually about. It is about the people he protects, not about him.

That trailer makes the movie look...not good.

Umm...Robin Hood's a highwayman. Not that he couldn't (or didn't) conduct raids on urban centers, but still. He hid out in the forest for a reason.

Dunno why they seem to want to urbanize these old legends. That was kind of the approach they took to the most recent King Arthur film.

Never got the why characters in this movie use modern (or whatever they are) clothing but it looks ridiculous. What? Is medieval clothing not "hype" enough for modern audiences?

In any case, I think the problem with this movies, same like with King Arthur and the Nutcracker which also bombed, is that the filmmakers are confusing known with popular. As studios are kind of desperate to have their own "extended universe", and branch recognition is an important thing nowadays because everything has to be a franchise, everything has to be well-known for people to recognize what they are going to watch (Zeus forbids they watch some new or original) they go into the public domain character.

But in any case Patrick Williams explains it better:

I really don't get the clothing...

BTW I think Georg Rockall-Schmidt (the third video) spotted the problem right on. The main issue with the film is that the creators thought young people are dumb and don't like history and can't take a medieval setting with different values. So they have what is basically Robin Hood in a modern setting, but without the modern setting.

For that matter, they could have going ALL Robin Hood in modern times, that would be interesting, but nah, too risky I guess.

Some one else notice the "bullets" in the Crusades? Jeez...

[up]The solution is simple: Remove her from the movie and bring back the GA and BC romance. [tup]
