Or, well. Anodic dance music, if we go with the church. It may as well be a very Egghead interpretation of it. To which I say....
YYYYYYAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!
But yeah. I can tell you that at my personal experience, the world is certainly bleak, but at least for me it did not go into Developing Doomed Characters territory (quite distant from it), So Bleak, It's Boring, Eight Deadly Words territory like other franchises are for my experience (World of Warcraft and basically all of Warhammer, which come to mind right now).
I cordially invite you to see Disco Elysium to the end - where you will find a name, a rhythm, a copotype, a mystery and a lot more.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesWorth noting is that it's possible to ignore almost all of the supernatural elements if you play your character completely deadpan and tell all the weirdos to piss off.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Oh yeah, big agree on the comparison to the heat death of the universe. Like. To live is to die one day, no matter how one slices it, both as an individual and as a species. Doesn't mean we can't enjoy every waking day of the time we have until it happens.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Yeah, it's a sequel hook. There's a few dangling hints is that this is a modern setting that's on the verge of turning into something like a weird punked-up D&D setting, like the big troves of swords (and guns, but also swords) that the revolutionaries are digging up in some of the Shivers/Esprit de Corps flashsideways. So I think it's going to get a lot weirder, and in that sense this surprisingly mundane murder mystery is going to serve as a prelude to some kind of save-the-world plot. La Revacholiere pretty much comes right out and says she's going to need your help stopping the city from being destroyed with high Shivers. The Apocalypse Cop's predictions seem to be true, and a lot of Harry's other ideas turn out to have their basis in r e a l i t y as well.

One of the best/funniest parts of the game is that when you deliberately play as Apocalypse Cop, you turn out to be dead right.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"But you need a pretty high Conceptualization skill for that conversation to happen, as I recall.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The Communist dialog options are hilarious. I just can't say them with a straight face.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Disco Elysium can be pretty bleak at times, but on occasion it will allow you to see something truly breathtaking.
Oh God! Natural light! The game overs are just so entertaining though.
Don’t forget that if you have a healing item you have a couple of seconds to activate it to save yourself from death.
Best is if you have taken damage and equip an item that lowers the relevant skill. Instant death. “Cop has heart attack while changing jackets.”

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The game doesn’t actually say that, more’s the pity. But it is a thing you can do.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"![]()
Ahh, shame. Should totally get its own text.
So I failed the Shivers check at the mural and got a new quest to seek out the Children of the Big Sea. I've gotten as far as finding out Lilienne's twins are apparently hearing Speedfreaks FM broadcast directly into their brains. This seems new for Final Cut, anyone else had this?

The best part is how much you can choose the optimism of the outcome. While you can't do squat about the larger geopolitical and metaphysical issues, you can, through intense diligence, make life better (or at least more comfortable) for quite a few people. Those minor victories should be cherished.
