To Charlie's credit, she is not 100% naive, she did know not to shake hands. Hypothetically if series picks up, she'd over the course of series learn how Alastor thinks and does...and beat him at his own game. I mean, she will wise up to his ways and become a Guile Hero with Alastor being an unintentional Stealth Mentor after needing to learn some lessons the hard way. That'd be perfectly ironic.

Speaking of serial killers, wasn't the infamous Ted Bundy also popular with ladies? Eugh...

Edit:Hazbin Hotel is only a 30 min pilot but the discussions it inspires is amazing. I love it. I love discussing this kind of stuff

[up]Yes he was, Ted Bundy was very popular with women. A lot of serial killers were popular with people. Some even lived normal lives on the surface or were well liked before their crimes were uncovered. Serial killers use their charisma or manipulative personalities to lure in victims

Alastor is likely one of these and considering what his job was he was really good at persuading people into lots of things.

So yeah, he is not someone you'd want to hypothetically be in a relationship with. While some serial killers can form attachments to people more often than not the attachment is toxic and abusive in some way (Richard Kuklinksi for example loved his family and lavished them with gifts but was also an abusive asshole towards them).

Serial killers being romanticized is something I will never understand.

Might be a Forbidden Fruit, coupled with a certain type of fetishism... I really don't wanna think about it.

Y'know, the reason why Hell isn't a much worse place for everyone is... God, if God did create this Hell instead being an alien dimensions God decided to turn into a dumping ground for deceased sinners (that's one of my theories), he half-assed creating this one.

Are there stories in general where God might be all-powerful but is so lazy, dismotivated he half-asses everything? I am starting to believe why Alastor has good time in Hell is because of God's laziness and incompetence. Instead Hell being actually a hellish nightmare for everyone, you just have individuals who do nasty things to other individuals. Maybe he was counting on bunch of sinners infighting, not realizing there'd be always a top dog once in a while who never suffers.

I believe the term is 'Hell is other people'

And for all the people who ship Alistor and Charlie, you guys do remember basically every single line he says directly to her is mocking her, her dreams, and literally every part of her personality. But no, one 'Charming demon belle' in a catchy song and you ship them.

It’s because Alastor basically spends his entire screen time charming the Hell outta Charlie while Vaggie is literally pushed to the side by him in impotent rage.

[up]He isn't even charming her, the likely reason Charlie takes his deal is because she her plan for her hotel somewhat fell through and having a sponser would hopefully help it pick up speed.

She is charmed though.

She spent his entire musical number with a big-ass grin on her face despite his lyrics essentially tearing her & goals down.

Randomly jumping in to say I'm more willing to see Charlie and Alastor as developing a platonic, familial bond. Maybe Alastor will basically be a better father-figure to her than Lucifer? I hope so, at least.

Either way it really depends on whether Alastor actually has something resembling a conscious or the capacity to care for another living being.

I am actually impressed that people are noticing that shippers make really unhealthy ships. I have been complaining about that for a long time and am usually ridiculed for doing so.

Eh, I ship them but I can definitely see it's unlikely to ever be canon, I kinda like it as an AU sorta deal where Al pretty much has a soft spot for her and that's it.

Also because they spent the most time together out of all the main characters save for the frenemies dynamic of Vaggie and Angel.

Also, trying to tell shippers not to ship stuff and that their ship is "wrong" won't stop them and is not a nice thing to do, live and let die unless they take their shipping as an excuse for harrassment or their ship is pedophiliac.

The important thing is to not take it seriously.

Shipping is ultimately a fun fan thing to do but taking it seriously enough to want it to actually happen is something you should never do.

Shipping can be ultimately harmless but I was never really comfortable with ships were one of the people involved are an absolute terrible person or hate the other.

The only way I can see an Alastor/Charlie ship working is if you make it an AU where he wasn't a serial killer.

My issue is that positive portrayals of abusive relationships in fiction encourages abusive relationships in reality. I actively blame romantic fiction for the high incidence of such relationships in reality.

While there's definitely a point to be considered that portrayals of abusive relationships as healthy or normal can contribute to people getting into or staying into those relationships, abusive relationships didn't spring into being with the advent of consumer fiction. There's probably correlation with an uptick of people not being adequately educated as to what the red flags of an abusive relationship are, though, yes. Still, writing or reading about dark subjects in fiction can be a way to chart down and explore your own feelings or thoughts without doing something dangerous, especially if you identify strongly with a character in the work and want to experiment with new experiences.

Even if Charlie wasn't already (from what we've seen) in a decently happy relationship, and even if Alastor wasn't an ace serial killer, would I ship them? No. But that doesn't make, say, a young woman in college or high school writing a fic about the two to explore her own attraction to Alastor a bad person. Fic and let fic, ship and let ship, and remember that no one is responsible for your media/fandom consumption but yourself.

Also, there's a big difference between fandom shipping and actual authors and screenwriters romanticizing abusive relationships in their works.

@Red Savant: The thing is, IMO, that DOES make her a bad person. Because it means she's being part of the problem. She's contributing to it.

I suppose it comes down to my own view of responsibility. I believe that everyone is responsible for everyone else.

Edit: Though yes, canon doing that is worse. My pet hate is Kyouko/Sayaka from PMMM which is encouraged by the staff.

No, you misunderstand. My fear is that other people will read or look at it and end up hurting others because they did. In fact, I believe this already happens. So, I believe that when people write, draw etc. These pairings, they are actively helping abuse people.
