How many of you have read this novel, or series of novels? I've just read the first book. It's a book about a teenager from Iowa who is trying to travel eastward to find his parents in the ashen wasteland created in the wake of the Yellowstone supervolcanic eruption.

I've just started up the works page here. It's kind of sparse now, but I've been adding to it all day:

Who's the author? I noticed that they aren't listed.

You know, this sort of thing has made me curious. What happens to the rest of the world when the Supervolcano goes off? I imagine it'll get colder pretty much everywhere, but will the ash reach across both oceans?

Oh, sorry about that, I'll fix it soon!

The author is Mike Mullian.

Okay, looked up what might happen on Google. It'll be bad in like several hundred miles around the place, but aside from it getting colder most places in the US will get like a fine dusting of ash, that and we'd be in trouble agriculturally until the ash goes away.

Harry Turtledove has a good trilogy about that titled Supervolcano.

In the Ashfall trilogy, they remedy it somewhat by building greenhouses, which then have to be heated artificially with wood-burning furnaces, then with water heaters when they restore electrical power with a system of windmills and car batteries.
