Sicario was fucking great, but I will not be seeing Soldado, and for precisely the reason you state.
yeyYeah, is the ending not supposed to be her being a better person by not murdering the bad guy?
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. The first movie was great, but with neither Emily Blunt nor Denis Villeneuve returning for the second one... At least from this trailer it looks like it could be a good action movie.
I'm not fond of the writer's excuse.

Look what she went through. It was a difficult role. Here I write this lead character and then I use her as a surrogate for the audience. I make her completely passive against her own will so the audience feels the same impotence that a lot of law enforcement officers feel, I drag her through hell, and betray her in the end. It was an arduous journey for the character, and for Emily. That character had arc.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.So...this like a Rambo situation where the first film is dark and gritty and the second one turns into a huge action movie?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?No way of knowing, but it does seem to have a bit more action. Alejandro was pretty much the only thing that glued the first movie together IMO. It's why I'm waiting for Soldado.

Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleAlso, I'm not sure what to feel about the plot of Soldado being that Mexican cartels are helping jihadists cross the border into the US, since that's almost word-for-word actual right-wing propaganda.
Eh,
The first movie is about how the United States government is resurrecting the Medellin cartel (A Columbian one) in order to take over narco-trafficking in Mexico. They also recruit a hitman to eliminate the competition who kills people's families. They also have headless bodies hanging from bridges with no one noticing in Juarez.
Sicario is about as realistic as Grand Theft Auto in terms of how they handle its world.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. Most of what I know of cartel activity comes from one of the guys who was fighting them.

So what did you guys think of this movie?
I enjoyed it tremendously but I can't help but think the creators and me had a different idea of what made the movie awesome. Because the sequel isn't including Emily Blunt and focuses instead on the Psycho for Hire Draco in Leather Pants character played by Benico Del Toro.
You know...the villain.
Such a shame.
