Okay, so you are definitely wondering what this RP is all about and why it's called "Super Screwy" of all things.

Basically, Super Screwy is a really weird Mix And Match RP: It's Cape Punk + Not Wearing Tights + After the End + Alternate History + Feudal Future + a bit of Black Comedy + Morality Kitchen Sink

    The Unabridged Premise
Basically ever since humanity has exisited, there have been Blazers. Some of them were just born with their powers, others had to be exposed to some sort of "trigger", or (usually extraordinary and/or traumatic event) to get their powers.

Before the fall, scientists discovered that all Blazers are actually born with the same power, a dormant and extremely fluid ability which they referred to as "the spark", which, when activated, turned into their new powers, based on the Blazer's personality and the circumstances of activation, among other things. Those "born with powers" were actually those who had their sparks activated in the womb or in early childhood, and these abilities often, though not always, manifested as Psychic Powers. Unfortunately, the discovery came only shortly before all hell broke loose, so very few people outside of a little lab in the Netherlands know about it.

Most blazers before the fall were (or tried to be) just normal people trying to get by. Most of them kept their powers secret because they thought people would probably A: being Bastards, be jealous of their powers and act hatefully or even violently towards them; B: be needy and constantly ask for favors, even if they could do it by themselves; or C: do both, depending on their mood.

Despite the presence of blazers, culture evolved surprisingly similar to our own. The first thing you'd probably notice is the prevalence of Neo-Paganism, due to the presence of Blazers meaning that the Abrahamic Religions were less successful in stamping out older faiths, although, make no mistake, they were still mostly successful. Another thing you might notice is that a favorite tactic among those attacking various religions is to claim that their god/gods/holy figures were just extremely powerful blazers. Also, there never were Superhero comics for some reason. Comics were never considered "for kids", although some comics were made to appeal to a younger audience, they weren't ever really that common. Comics didn't really have anything near a synonymous genre until around The '80s when, oddly enough, a group of D&D-playing, Tolkien-worshiping nerds created the wildly popular Medieval Europe-feeling High Fantasy world of Eredos, which pretty much changed comic books forever (well, at least until all hell broke loose, that is). This isn't really important to the story, it's just some random details about the setting which I felt like including.

Anyways, early in The '90s, things began to get bad. People began to act weird, discontentment began to grow, and violence became common. This was because of an extremely powerful blazer with subconscious emotion manipulation powers, who also happened to be a government-hating Crazy Survivalist Conspiracy Theorist. By 1995, this was a full scale revolution, and by the Turn of the Millennium, there were absolutely zero natural governments left, although the end is generally agreed to have happened in mid-to-late '96 or early '97. Unfortunately (for the survivalist, it was fortunate for everyone else), the emotion-manipulating survivalist (who wasn't even aware of his powers) was detected by a holdout of the United States Military (now rendered sociopathic, corrupt, authoritarian, and ruthless by the global emotion manipulation) in early 1998, and he was promptly exterminated. Unfortunately, people had been under his subconscious emotional manipulation for so long, and the world was so far gone anyway, that the utter chaos continued for quite a long time before people began to revert (well into 2003).

Pretty much as soon as the effects had mostly worn off, survivors began banding together, and a sort of feudal hierarchy began to emerge. Of course, most of them didn't call themselves kings, queens, nobility, or any of that other stuff. Instead, they called themselves "landholders", "lieutenants", and that sort of thing, but the meaning was basically the same.

A rare good side-effect was that blazers now found themselves in high demand. Not for trivial shit, either. They found themselves in demand for well-paying (if dangerous), important jobs. There is no better time to be a blazer, although there are much better times to be a human being.

Super Screwy is a freeform RP, but players are expected to start with limited influence and power (not all blazers start with the same amount of power, but as you practice and use your powers more, you become more skilled at their use and can do a lot of cool stuff you wouldn't have thought possible with your powers at first), but their influence and powers grow as the story advances. You could start as a mercenary, soldier, citizen, loner, scavenger, or pretty much anything without too much social influence.

Blazer powers can be pretty much anything except for Time Travel, but your powers are not allowed to be game-breaking, so no Reality Warper, Super-Empowering, or Mind Control unless they have extreme limitations to their use.

Name: Lucas Montrose
Age: 23
Appearance: Lucas stands at about 5' 10", with an average build. He has blonde hair, usually styled in a short quiff, green eyes, and generally has a slight scowl. His "signature" outfit consists of a dark green bomber jacket on top of a pale shirt, skinny jeans and Doc Martens.
Personality: Lucas can be hot-headed most of the time, and is rash. He doesn't spend a lot of time making plans, and because of that, has become skilled at improvising. He distrusts other Blazers, but once his trust has been gained, he does his best to protect those around him.
Powers: Lucas can control fire, the only drawback is that there has to be a flame to be controlled. The main weakness of this is that the more emotional he is, the harder it is for him to control the flame. He is also immune to fire, and can heal himself and others using the raw energy of flames. However, when Lucas is extremely angry, he can become a Human Torch-esque man-shaped flame, complete with a sword that is also on fire. Because hell yeah. When a fireman, he is immune to most sources of damage that aren't water based, nor can he operate in an oxygen-less environment. Like most people. After his fire temper-tantrum, Lucas is literally "burnt-out," and can't use his powers for a couple of hours.
Skills: Lucas is a skilled guitarist and vocalist, and is a proficient carpenter.
Gear:

  • Zippo lighter with family crest
  • Gramp's old guitar
  • The keys to a vintage 1973 Oldsmobile Classic
  • M1911
Connections:
  • The Montrose Family: The Montrose Family is fairly wealthy family in Atlanta, GA. Lucas is the son of the sole inheritant, Janice Montrose, though he and the rest of his family are not on the best of terms.
  • Henry Murphy: Henry is Lucas's best friend, and was the first to realize that Katie was a Blazer. When Lucas fled Atlanta, he dragged Henry along with him.
Backstory: Lucas never knew the apocalyptic side of the apocalypse; the Montroses were one of the first landowning families in Georgia, settling down in Atlanta. Because of this, Lucas was raised more by his grandfather, Ernest, than his parents, Janice and Quincy. The old man taught the boy how to play guitar, and eventually helped him build his own six-string. One day, Lucas was staying with one of his family's lords in a villa away from his parent's home. Some rebels took this chance and burnt down said villa. Much to Lucas's surprise, these flames didn't hurt him, however, they really hurt the lord that he was staying with, so much so that he died. Enraged by this, Lucas exploded the flames, killing the rebels, and discovering he was a Blazer. Terrified by their son, Lucas's parents sent him away, but Ernest- disapproving of his daughter's actions- accompanied the boy in his exile. During this time, Ernest and Lucas scavenged to survive, the latter also working odd jobs as both a Blazer and a carpenter. He eventually met his girlfriend, Katie Messenger, and a man named Henry Murphy. Henry noticed that Katie was making Lucas much more irritable, and feeding off of his emotions, and shortly discovered that she, too, was a Blazer. With her cover blown, she lashed out, killing Ernest. Furious, Lucas turned into a flame and impaled the vampiric girl on his flaming sword. He and Henry buried Ernest, and set news to the Montroses, who repealed the exiling of their son. However, Lucas decided it would be best to leave Georgia behind, and brought Henry with him.

  • Name: The Locksmith
  • Age: 22
  • Appearance: A half-asian woman of average height with shoulder-cut black hair. Tends to avoid loose clothing and accessories in order to make as little noise as possible.
  • Personality: In public, she puts on a facade of being bubbly and upbeat, but in reality the Locksmith is a cold, calculating woman who cares little for the feelings of others. With that said, she has a strong code of honor, never stealing from those who lack and never resorting to lethal force.
  • Powers: As her name implies, the Locksmith is a master of unlocking, able to open any lock with a touch. This extends to both seals created by other blazers and metaphorical locks, such as the “lock” on an amnesiac’s memory and the “locks of deception”
  • Skills: The Locksmith is a master thief (or acquisitions officer, as she prefers to be known) able to remove items from under their owners’ noses without leaving a trace.
  • Gear: The Locksmith always travels light to avoid making excess noise or leaving evidence. The only thing she generally has on her is a pair of brass knuckles for when a fight becomes unavoidable, and few business cards to leave with prospective employers.
  • Connections: Reginald Contour (A lieutenant, and her most frequent employer), several other minor lieutenants who’ve used her services.
  • Backstory: The Locksmith has been alone all her life. Having lost her parents to the apocalypse as an infant, she grew up on the streets without even a name to call her own, forced to steal in order to survive. These are the circumstances in which her spark first manifested at age 8. Christening herself the Locksmith after her newfound abilities, she was eventually taken notice of by one Reginald Contour, a shady lieutenant who started providing her with room and board in exchange for certain... acquisitions. At 18 she set out on her own and began to make a name for herself as a freelance acquisitions officer, the person to call when you want something that someone else has, although her fees mean her clients are almost exclusively lieutenants. Contour remains a frequent client.

Name:Alexander Hobbes

Age: 25

Appearance: Alex is a 5'11' man with black hair, and brown eyes. his normal dress code is, wear whatever works and what doesn't stick out. he also wears gloves that that has the sign of a local guild that gathers information for a price.

Personality: pragmatic, serious, curious, these words describe what he's normally like, however he's also trust worthy, skeptical, and if you are someone he trusts, he's protective.

Powers: he has control over lightning and electricity, so naturally he can and will use this to his own advantage by applying it in many useful ways, for example he has access to your basic elemental electrical powers you know the ones, blasting people with electricity, overloading machines, using it to weaponize items that can conduct electrical currents, the basics. he is also capable of redirecting the flow of electrical attacks or current's by touch, he's currently trying to find out how to use his powers to mess with the nervous system in ways that doesn't paralyze or fry it. his current skills that don't do either of those things when applied to people or animals will either disorient them or it will m out from the sensory overload. but he is working on improving and improvising with his powers.

Skills: chemistry, running, information gathering, parkour.

Gear:

Chains- this is his main weapon, mostly because easy to weaponize using his powers and it can be used in multiple ways.

Revolver- when an electrified chain just won't cut it, but the enemy is still close enough to be shot.

communication device- to get in contact with his guild.

Connections: the guild of Athena- the guild is based on the goddess of civilization and knowledge which is what this guild strives to restore and gain. being a part of he guild he can contact other members for counsel, to relay information or gain information, or just to talk to his friends within the guild.

Backstory: Alex grew up in the apocalypse.....and that's all i can really think to say on the matter, his parents we're a part of his guild and he learned from them, they encouraged his curiosity and when his spark manifested, while he was going to check a generator during the storm, he got struck with lightning and redirected it at some tree, this prompted more investigation and investigate he did, slowly but surely finding out about his powers. after he reached of age he was sent out as a scout for the guild. and now he's in the wastelands looking for clients or new information to ferry back to the guild.

so...what do you think? if i have to change something just say the word and i'll do it.

[up] Okay.

So, everyone's powers (minus the Locksmith's, the locksmith is my favorite character thusfar) seem rather blunt and obvious. Most blazers' powers are determined by a complicated combination of circumstances, how their spark ignites being only one of said circumstances. Also, many blazers have Combo Platter Powers, though not to a ridiculous extent like superman's.

Your character concepts are fine, just a bit... basic in the "why" of their powers, underpowered and inflexible in the powers department, and have generally un-blazer-y powers. Except, of course, for the Locksmith. She's built around one power, sure, but it's really flexible in its use, surprisingly subtle in the reason for its existence (well, not really that subtle, at least by blazer standards, but justified. It formed a core part of both her personality and how her spark ignited). Lucas' is more blunt and less blazer-y, but it still works, and I like his character, even though he also seems like a bit of a one-trick-pony (unless he's really pissed, then things get really awesome).

Your character, however, although otherwise pretty good, needs a lot more... justification and flexibility. In the powers department.

Also, change the last name. Too obvious.

An addendum to the "one-trick pony" thing, Lucas was ported over from the Dresden Files RPG, where his "class" was literally called a One-Trick Pony, so that's the meta reasoning behind his limitations. He was actually a lot more underpowered in that, to boot. If you need me to make further changes, I can, though.

[up] It's fine. He's a bit underpowered when not in an all-consuming rage, but being raised in a landholder family has probably taught him a bit about politics, and even when not in a court or an all consuming rage, he can hold his own.

  • Name: Henry Dekman

  • Age: 19

  • Appearance: Henry Dekman is a young man with a tan complexion. He's obviously mixed, possibly partially latino. He has short black hair, almost to the scalp, and deep brown eyes. He's a bit on the short side but very athletic, though not as much recently. He's good-looking and he knows it, but he doesn't try to flaunt it. He has a few scars on his arms (best not ask how he got those). Despite his boyish good looks, he tends to look rather tired, usually unmotivated. Likes dull colored clothing and tends to wear long sleeves and pants nowadays, regardless of climate.

  • Personality: Henry used to be an almost manic type of guy, friendly and personable. Then his best friend died. Ever since, he's shut himself off, becoming quiet and frankly unfriendly. He has occasional outbursts of positivity, but besides that is mostly negative. He misses his friend dearly but should have gotten over it a long time ago, at least the mourning process. He has a defeatist mindset, believing that most things are meant to fail and that he can't do anything about it. Really, the only reason he's survived this far successfully is because of his powers. Even now he has a penchant for trickery and jokes, though they've turned much more dark.

  • Powers: His powers concern attention and a certain sense of whether he should be there or not. While they require little energy to be used, he occasionally overexpends just to make sure they work. As his powers grow he will find out that he can do more than just draw attention; eventually he will be able to persuade people of things with his lies.

    • Draw Attention - Allows him to draw attention to himself. Useful for getting people to pay attention to him and him only. Can be used in tandem with Expel Attention to make people pay attention to only certain parts of himself, useful for making subtle movements or for making certain details stand out.

    • 'I should be here' - Makes people think he should be there / belongs there. Useful for, say, infiltrating meetings if used alongside Expel Attention, though using the two at once are rather hard to use. Could technically be reversed into a 'I don't belong here', but what use would that be?

    • Expel Attention - Makes people pay attention to anything but him. Useful for sneaking around. Can be used in tandem with Draw Attention, as detailed above.

    • Focus Attention - Makes people focus their attention on things beside Henry. Useful for distraction.

  • Skills: Skilled at very few things, except for :
    • Acting - A good actor. If needed he can lie with the best of them. A potent force to be used with his attention skills.

    • First Aid - First aid certified.

  • Gear:
    • Mask - A cheap mask painted black. Has a small slit for the mouth and two eyeholes.

    • Gauze and Cloth - for wrapping wounds or applying a rudimentary tourniquet (with the aid of a nearby stick or something).

  • Connections: He doesn't have many connections yet.

    • Cade Morales - Henry Dekman's best friend. Died a couple years back.

    • Alice and Robert Dekman - His parents. Both work in the security field.

  • Backstory:

    • Henry Dekman was born to an Alice and Robert Dekman, in St. Augustine, Florida. By then St. Augustine was under Cameron Miller. Henry's parents were security, specifically working on Cameron Miller's payroll. By the age of 5, he knew he was a Blazer, but was smart enough to keep it a secret. It helped that his powers weren't too obvious.

    • Schooling wasn't so good anymore, but it was better than nothing, and it taught him many practical things, like first aid. During his 6th year of schooling, He met Cade Morales, a mellow and go with the flow type of guy. They quickly became best friends, almost inseparable. They talked each other out of stupid things, did stupid things anyway, all the usual stuff with friends. And, in the course of it, Henry quite accidentally fell heads over heels for the other boy.

    • Henry never quite got the courage to make a move, though, and was happy enough with their friendship. Which made it quite tragic when, at the age of 17, Cade died. Henry did not take it well, at all. Without going into detail, it left a permanent stain on Henry's life. Shortly afterward, Henry left town without telling his parents, and nowadays wanders around, stealing from people, playing tricks on people, and generally being an unfriendly dick.

[up] Accepted. The only problem is that two Landholders can't exactly be in civil war, seeing as thy're basically the equivalent of kings/queens/occasionally emperors.

Basically: Landholders = Kings/Queens/Emperors; Lieutenants = Nobles; Freeholders = Landholders in charge of only one settlement; Citizens = Peasants; Loners, Scavengers, Bandits, Mercenaries, Et Cetera = People outside the system who don't fit into the other categories.

  • Name: Jayden Kanthro
  • Age: 22
  • Appearance: Jayden looks deceptively young, around 15-16 with dark hair and green eyes. Constantly appears sickly, pale and frail. Commonly wears clothing that lets him cover up and feel warm. He is covered in tiny scars from rat bites.
  • Personality: Jay himself is often very friendly and sociable if a little too on the nose. Despite being rather intelligent and astute, Jayden is highly naive and easily manipulated. While his feelings are easily wounded using the right method, Jay is quick to forgive and forget. He is moderately afraid of most rodents and violently afraid of rats.
  • Powers: golemancy - his ability is to grant a fake life to things, both physical and conceptual. This power leaks constantly and seeps into the environment, eventually granting things a not so fake life, whether Jay wants them to come to life or not. This power is straining on him, the leak acting as a constant drain on his health.
  • Skills:
    • Crafter: Everyone needs a hobby, Jay distracts himself by working with his hands to make and repair things. New materials offer a much-relished challenge.
    • Forager: Jay is good at picking out useful things from... everything else. This is especially true in the forest.
    • The Various Hardiness and Talents that comes from hunting rats in the dark for a few months as your only source of food: Yeah...
  • Gear:
    • Various Knives
    • Homemade smoke bombs
    • Small Traps
    • An assortment of tools gathered over the years. Each lovingly polished and cared for.
    • Numerous varieties of crafting supplies, albeit only a small amount of each.
  • Connections:
    • Steward: Steward is a sort of parasitic life form, and the first "golem" Jay created. A master manipulator, and the cause for Jay's power leak. He uses the leak as a constant source of sustenance and for that reason has a very pointed interest in keeping Jay alive. He is the manifestation of an experience and is not totally consistent in form.
    • Silva: Silva is a solid, spectral image of a wolf. The second longest-lived of all of Jay's golems, as well as his pet and mount.
    • Various Merchants: the business of someone who manages to come across money, but does not understand it's value is always a pleasure for those looking to barter.
    • Superstitious Folk: something of a bad relationship, given that he is something of an urban legend to them.
  • Backstory: Jay's hometown was destroyed by a blazer with a god complex. He doesn't remember much about it, he only recalls everyone becoming very panicked, adults rushing to grab weapons, the sound of fighting in the distance, and his father put him in the cellar with instructions to stay put. After a while, the light seeping through the cracks in the door almost completely disappeared and a little while later, everything went quiet. Jay tried to push the door open, only to find it blocked by something heavy. He was trapped in the dark basement, along with the rats.
After a week (not that he could tell), the food was nearly gone between Jayden and the rats. The rats had taken to attacking him in his sleep, when he couldn't fight back, and then rushing off into the shadows once more. As he sat there wishing for a friend, for food, and for comfort, he heard a voice. The voice was soft and low, a comforting and convincing voice that made one want to listen to it. He looked up to see light glinting softly off two dark orbs take almost looked to be eyes in the lightless room. His first Golem had been born. Steward stood watch as Jay slept, helped him catch rats, and simply survive for a long time. Steward eventually became more intelligent and willful. Some would say manipulative, even drawing rats into the basement once the rest had fled or been eaten.
Marking two months after Steward had become sentient, looters came to the little ruined town, and uncovered a certain cellar, and a certain. Young boy within. They figured he might well be worth something to some sweatshop somewhere and took him with. Steward remained hidden, yet was extremely displeased with this turn of events.
As the looters drew closer to the town where they would sell their ill-gotten gains, Steward began speaking to them individually, convincing them of his wisdom, knowledge, and that he was on each of their sides. One by one he spoke to them with what he saw in their minds, just as he did with the rats, and turned them on each other until only one remained. This last remaining looter he confronted with the town in sight off in the distance. Jayden was, of course, horrified to see his saviors turn in one another, but the reappearance of his old caretaker reassured him.
Steward and Jay moved into an abandoned shack in the woods, which they fixed up the supplies from the looters. His presence in the woods combined with the saturation of his powers gave the woods a reputation among the superstitious for being haunted after not too long, and his strange appearance on his rare forays into town soon made him something of an urban legend himself.

Power too out there?

Appearance: Darren is an African American Individual, 6’1", weighing around 164.3 Lbs. He has cropped black hair and a stubble. He has a scar on the back of his neck. Personality: Darren is bitter Individual to some extent , still trying to bury what he did during the fall. Despite this, he still comes off as friendly and humorous. Granted he has a dark sense of humour, but still. He doesn't take it too kindly when you try to bring up what happened during The Fall. He's willing to take what happened to his grave. Darren isn't one to leave a man behind, being a marine and all. And he harbours distrust towards the Blazers, unsuprisngly.

Skills: Ace Marksman CQC Expert. Combat Veteran. Demolitions

Gear:In addition to his attire, he wears a Woodland Camo PASAGT Helmet, and a tan OTV Kevlar vest M16 Assault Rifle. M1911 Pistol Flashlight. Backpack w/32 Clips of Ammo for his M16 and 5 Clips for his Pistol

Powers: Well, He some regenerative ability that hasn’t been activated yet. It regenerates damaged cells, although ghanistan it does take between 30 seconds to 10 minutes, depending on the degree of the injury. But, it hasn't been activated yet, and Darren is unaware he has it.

Connections: US Marine Corps (Formerly) Federal Army of Chicago

Backstory: Born in 1971, Darren’s parent divorced 2 years after he was born. Given he spent the rest of his childhood with his father-a former Marine and Vietnam veteran-it’s no surprise he joined up with the US Marines in 1989. During Operation Desert Storm, he took part in the the Battle of Khafji, and the Liberation of Kuwait. Following this, he was deployed as part of the relief mission in Somalia. He got back to the states in ‘93. Soon after, The Fall began. Like all his colleagues, Darren was rendered a mass murdering psychopath by the global emotional manipulation. He was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant by a Corps desperate for leaders. Darren went through some of the worst fighting with the Survivalists. Finally, in ‘98, what was left of the US Military launched Operation Avenger, the mission to kill the Survialist Blazer. The mission succeeded, but at a cost. Of the 50 troops who took part in the raid, only 38 survived. This was further reduced to 32 as the effects began to wear off, and they realized what they had done, and put a bullet in their heads. Darren and the few survivors of the Avenger set up camp near the ruins of Chicago. In 2002, they began to incorporate the city into their the settlement, and handed together with with several other groups in the area. The Federal Republic of Chicago was formed soon after, one of the more democratic groups within post-Fall America. Darren ended up becoming a Captain within the Federal Army of Chicago, and is now taking part in the young republic's expansion across Illinois.

[up][up] Accepted

[up] Pretty good, but it's currently 20018, not 2003, and the survivalist had only one (albeit really strong) power: the manipulation of peoples' emotions (albeit really strong and on a global scale), and he wasn't aware of those powers. He just thought the ignorant masses were finally realizing the truth. Since that was his only power, operation avenger, if it had the numbers you say it did, would've been a Curb-Stomp Battle. Also, the scattered remnants of the military might have had enough troops total, but they were isolated and mostly unaware of the few other remaining bases. I'd recommend changing "5000" to "50", and "565" to somewhere between 47 and 38.

Also, you forgot to give your character skills. Also, for the sake of balance, I'd like to recommend you take some powers (albeit ones he might not be consciously aware of), although I understand why you decided not to give him any.

Umm... so, I was here, I guess. If I wasn't, someone hacked my account. So, yeah.
