If I understood this correctly there was a really, really stupid conspiracy theory about some Pizza shop producing children porn in their cellar or something like that. Patently ridiculous, especially since part of the story was that Hilary was somehow involved in all this. I guess most people thought it funny until a man stormed the place in order to free the children from the (non-existent, btw) cellar.

I think the original source was some of the Podesta e-mails (apparently it is hard to believe that a conversation with a Pizza shop is actually about Pizza). The idiotic thing is that there are people who still believe the BS.

It was a bunch of e-mails where people talked about having pizza for lunch or dinner. In New York. Very suspicious.

And to think, people actually thought someone who seriously believed this shit should be given airtime on network television again. On top of all of the rest of the hateful bigoted trash she spews.

Yeah, they basically remembered a person who was a professional and progressive versus the person she became.

I wonder if it was an attempt to give her a chance to clean her shit up.

Either way, it ended probably the only way it could have.

Nobody thought it was funny. People who followed Pizzagate legit thought it was an actual thing. It got coverage from right-wing lunatics like Alex Jones who presented it to their audience as a serious example of leftist corruption.

To understand Pizzagate, you have to understand that this is how the Right sees us. To conservative voters, the Democratic party is a Satanic conspiracy to murder babies, disrupt American families, and allow terrorists and Mexican rapists to destroy the good, God-fearing families that make up the "True Americans" demographic.

Those people heard that Hillary Clinton runs a child sex slave ring out of the basement of a pizza parlor, and their immediate response was, "Yes. That sounds absolutely like something a Democrat would do, especially one as corrupt and murderous as Hillary Clinton, Satan's greatest agent on this Earth!" And that culminated with one man discharging firearms in a public restaurant, on a mission to free the children he wholeheartedly believed were victims of Clinton's alleged sex trafficking conspiracy.

This is what politics in America are like right now. You can blame the combination of anti-intellectualism in our culture making people suspicious of anyone who actually knows what they're talking about mixed with a billion-dollar right-wing propaganda machine that's hard at work to control the narrative and shape the aforementioned anti-intellectuals' understanding of the world.

The problem with people like Roseanne Barr isn't that they think this shit is funny. It's that they aren't joking.

Well, since Trump is in power, the US has made it on my blacklist of countries I don't travel to if I can help it. But even if he is gone and the democrats have the White House again, they have a lot work to do before I will set again a foot in that country.

That's probably for the best. I don't recommend the U.S. as a travel or migration destination to anybody right now, and I don't intend to until such a time as I can feel confident that it's safe to be a "foreigner".

Right now, I don't even feel confident that it's safe to be a native-born citizen who wasn't born white. Or is LGBT.

That Pizzagate gained traction was both unsurprising and a portent of how shitty things were going to get.

Related to Pizza Gate, it should be noted Roseanne is a follower of the Twitter account for An Open Secret and they've notably been on a tirade calling it a double standard that she got fired while Victor Salva (A convicted pedophile) got to direct Powder at Disney in the 90's.

Thoughts?

What next, are they going to go look through Disney's entire history for controversial shit?

This is pathetic bullshit deflection.

It's absolutely bullshit deflection. They're trying to get revenge by attacking heinous liberals, but are having trouble finding any. Plan A was to go after Bill Maher, but that backfired because most of the left were like, "Yes! Please! By all means! Take him!"

This even more embarrassing attempt at equivalency is Plan B.

Roseanne isn't getting her show back.

She should apply to Fox to get her a show with Tim Allen.

Then we can monitor who watches it and isolate them from society.

Oh god. Don't get me started on Tim Allen's Last Man Standing. "My show got cancelled because liberals don't like a friendly conservative". He can STFU. His damn show ran for six seasons and reached full syndication. Shows get more expensive after syndication. His show wasn't cancelled because "liberals don't like conservatives hur-dur". If it was, it wouldn't have lasted six seasons in the first place.

Speaking of Last Man Standing, I caught an episode from Season 4, having not watched the episode since the year it debuted, and was aghast at how much political "humor" was present. Also it seemed like every 2 minutes there was a slam on Obama. The episode's plot in question has nothing to do with Obama or politics (it was about the daughter wanting to be a football player), they're just throwing in political comments just because. Was the Roseanne reboot like that? I heard it was. So is that a thing now? Family sitcoms that randomly shoehorn politics?

The first episode had Jackie and Roseanne attacking each other over their political views, but that's really par the course for this franchise. Roseanne bullied Jackie for just about everything. Trump and Clinton just happen to be topical.

Well, there was a lot to unpack about the show but it was a show which existed under the shroud of Roseanne Barr's Trump Conspiracy Theorist views the entirety of its time. Quite a few people on this board were never going to give it a chance and they had good reason for doing so. Others, like myself, were watching out of a combination of Nostalgia Filter or the fact it was despite Roseanne and because of Sarah Gilbert.

The show was certainly not a conservative show. At least not a conservative show which threw anything more than a fig leaf toward "balance" as the revival begins with the premise Roseanne has a black grandchild, a gender nonconforming grandchild (who she'd accept if he was trans), a drug addiction to opiods, and three generations of Connors all living together because of the state of the family. Even the first episode begins with establishing Becky has the full support of the family but for Dan that her body is her own in dealing with selling her fertilized embryos as well as carrying them to term.

The controversial "Go Cubs" story has Roseanne as horrifically racist to her neighbors, literally assuming they might be terrorists just because of their Middle Eastern origins. However, the point of the episode is the fact they are perfectly normal people and actually living in fear of white-hate crimes to the point their son has a bullet proof vest as a sleeping blanket. It was the fact they added that element, that they have more to fear from people like Roseanne than the reverse, which really made the episode for me as well as the fact she does do a 180.

The show was also playing the long game as quite a few of its plots were going to play into longer roles for the Connors. The Muslim family from Yemen was going to be used to talk about the refugee crisis (which was, in simple terms, "We left because terrorists were trying to kill us, not because we're terrorists."). Dan was also going to be confronted with the fact his distaste for illegal workers was wrong because not only were they here legally on work visas but he needed the cheaper labor to function in current society. Unfortunately, the early episodes played into a Both Sides sort of argument when—as we know—both sides are Not So Similar.

That was basically the main problem with the first episode of the revival. "Both sides have a point" is really big nonsense when one side is going on woman marches and feels threatened by an anti-gay anti-woman government, and the oder side sprouts the "I voted because I had a hard life" nonsense. Because no matter how hard your life is, voting for Trump doesn't make it better. But in the end, Jackie was the one who had to apologize to Roseanne and this was sold as "now we can be a peaceful family again". Just...urgh!!!! It was the epitome of "good people on both sides"....and sometimes this is simply not the case. That's like saying that the one guy who claims that the earth is flat needs just as much attention as the ones who say it is round because we need to reflect all opinions.

I liked the fact Roseanne actually lost their one argument.

Roseanne: "He said he'd create jobs!"

Jackie: "And now things are worse than ever!"

And Roseanne had no rebuttal.

Because it's true.
