Apparently Bob Iger himself condemned her, so she's probably shitcanned everywhere the Mouse has its ears in.
"You can reply to this Message!"I tend to look at a work with a Death of the Author attitude. Whatever the people invovled do outside of their work does not factor into it for me.

You lost! And I'm trying to find the balance between that and still acknowledging who the creators are and that I don't want to support them at all. Or, at least, I want to feel like I am free of guilt if it comes to the 'support' thing since god knows how many times people will go 'Well, x had amazing ratings/sales/etc' to support that a thing is good, never mind that I might have watched/read/played x just to be informed on why its not good and what the problems are.
Death of the Author is nice and all, but it ought to take a second place if the Creator's views and actions take dimensions in which ignoring them basically becomes willfull ignorance.
A Skinhead can have a lovely, even beautiful singing voice, but if he calls for the subjugation of Poland when he's not singing, I'd rather loose the music than give his hatred a platform.
And if he uses the money he makes from the singing to organized a Neonazi ralley...?
And that's ignoring thinks like Author Avatar and Writer on Board.
It's a spectrum, like a great many things, and in this case the pointer slammed very hard on the bad side of the scale.
Post Scriptum: And let's not forget people trying to use Death of the Author to actively burrow criticism.
Kinda a reverse "I like your movies, but stay out of politics"? Or inverse?

"You can reply to this Message!"Well obviously the solution to the hypothetical Skinhead singer scenario is to pirate all of their music.

You lost!In the case of Roseanne, I was annoyed because I loved all of the actors except the lead and was glad to see them return to the screen.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.A shame a bunch of people had to lose their job coz Roseanne Barr is a racist asshole who can't keep her views to herself. Not just the other actors but all the crew working behind the scene.

Even that gives them still another form of currency; fame.
Talk about getting their concerts cancelled or their awards (hello Echo!) revoked.
We say Hatred has no place. Let's make us actually mean it.
Is it too much to ask if they could sue Barr over this?
And for value, I saw some No-Barr spinoff speculation

"You can reply to this Message!"I'd watch Darlene and Becky Becky Darelene Dan
Such a shame.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I mean, it's the USA, people sue each other for literally any reason. But I think it'd be a hard sell to make her legally responsible in court when it's ABC who canned the show over the backlash. Unless Barr's contract had some legal clause covering exactly what she did, it's unlikely a suit would go anywhere.
Death of the Author only works as long as the questionable views don't bleed into the work, and usually they do.
Anyway, this is not a small matter, as well as Disney does with its movies and theme parks, they could use a little bit more success with their networks.
Roseanne was a groundbreaking show which showed the main characters struggling with money, prejudice, and the fact life didn't always turn out great. Its constant Reality Ensues and the general classless nature of the working class but genuine love in the family is a formula no one seems able to replicate.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I'm just glad the German rights for the Revival are on the Disney channel, so Bob Iger's wrath will probably prevent us from some stupid exec going 'eh no one here heard about it, lets just run it'
"You can reply to this Message!"And really...is anyone actually surprised something like this happened? I know I'm not. But then again, I was never a fan of Roseanne — the show or the person. My reaction to watching the old show back in the day was a resounding "meh".

Disgusted, but not surprisedI am deeply surprised.
Then again, I was hoping basic greed would have gotten Barr to step down or at least a contract with the morals clause of, "Don't be a racist POS."
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Disney Channel Germany confirmed that they won't broadcast the series either.
Its dead, Jim.
"You can reply to this Message!"Rather ironic in hindsight.
Same here.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Considering how swiftly they acted, the were prepared for something like this.
Anyway, I won't miss Roseanne...it's not like I disliked the show back in the day, but it's best episodes were in the first seasons (I liked the one in which Darleen participates in the lyric competition...actually, I mostly liked the Darleen-centric episodes, because she was maybe the most interesting character in the show), and it never was a must watch for me.
People are going to buy what they want to buy, no matter what. If you like a work but hate the creator, and want to delve into it without supporting that actual creator, you have two choices: 1. Use a library, since you don't even pay for books there unless they're overdue. 2. Buy secondhand. The publishing companies/creators only get paid for the first sale. It's why so many creative companies keep trying to shut down used media stores. www.Thriftbooks.com is a good one for books. I've used it before. Best part? It's still perfectly legal, so even the TV Tropes censors can't attack you for talking about it.
@M84: I have to say I am deeply surprised, though for other reasons.
A racist actually getting comeuppance for their racism? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Yeah, that part did surprise me a bit. But like I said, it seems like it was a last straw situation. If it was "just" the tweet, it might have been a different story.
Oh, and recently she tried to blame the tweet on her recently taking Ambien. Ambien maker Sanofi responded.
Ambien maker responds to Roseanne Barr: 'Racism is not a known side effect'

Disgusted, but not surprisedOf course they WOULD say that.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. If she tried to blame her tweet on her being drunk, would you be taking her seriously?
It seems like you're letting bad feelings about Big Pharma cloud your judgement here.
Disgusted, but not surprised
I remember when the truth about Marion Zimmer Bradley broke.
A lot of my female fantasy friends (and no small number of men) felt like they'd been personally kicked in the gut.
