Watched the new episode again. Not knocking the writing for Amity, which is really solid and I appreciate it, but I'm starting to realize that the voice-acting is what really sells her. Mae Whitman puts so much vulnerability and charm into her line reading that it is impossible for me not to be drawn to the character, I can't even stay mad at her earlier Academic Alpha Bitch moments because Whitman plays them with such nuance.
@Cross: It lines up perfectly from her point of view, though: we were introduced to Amity being antagonistic toward Willow, but not toward Luz. As far as Amity knows, Luz just showed up out of nowhere and humiliated her in school for no good reason. While Amity's actions in "Covention" were certainly a wrongful case of Kick the Dog, from her perspective she was retaliating against Luz for the events of the previous episode (basically, the "she started it!" justification that kids often use), refusing to hear Luz out about it being unintentional on her part because she's still just that angry about it. Then, even after Amity's Pet the Dog moment to Luz at the end of that episode, Luz doesn't leave her alone out of a well-meaning zeal to befriend her and does things that end up being misinterpreted by Amity as trying to humiliate her again. So for Amity, it's a case of this random human coming into her life and repeatedly screwing it up for no clear reason.
@randomness4: It's not ambiguity as to how wrong they are, since there is no serious attempt made in the episode to justify them beyond their "tough love" excuse that neither Luz nor Amity seem to be buying. The ambiguity is with their malevolent intent - they're certifiable jerks, but the question is are they like Amity in that this stems from being misguided due to how they were raised, or are they just that way For the Evulz?
Their dynamic with Luz is especially suspect: is it a genuine Cool Kid-and-Loser Friendship, or is it a predatory "older kids manipulate younger kid by pretending to be their friend" type of situation? Did they befriend her because they like her and relate to her, or was it only because they heard she'd humiliated Amity and wanted to use her for more of that? Was the cordial way they parted ways with Luz at the end a Pet the Dog moment, or was it a way to keep her smitten with them so that they can continue to rope her into more wrong-doings in the future? That is what I meant when I said I'm enjoying the ambiguity, I like not knowing just how bad they are.
Whichever the case may be, though, I am impressed that the writers made them likable. Not to the viewer, mind you, but In-Universe: they are the cool, fun kind of people that other people would gladly hang out with, and that honestly makes Amity's situation terrifying: it's much harder to receive help dealing with a "likable" bully than it is with an obviously mean bully. People would see her sour attitude, deem her less "likable" than her siblings, and take their side even when Amity is objectively their victim. And say she tries to be more "likable" to help her case. How would her parents, who clearly hold one standard for the twins and another for Amity, react to that kind of "weakness" being shown? Amity's life with her family is a Morton's Fork scenario!

I'd wait until they show up again to have any thoughts on them like that...
Because, I'm just not getting it yet.

I think that's just supposed to be a common thing kids do and it's embarrassing. I've never done it before though.
But there probably is. She's definitely being established as a really complex character.
Still gotta find out all about Eda's family and dark past too! And Luz and I are so excited to see it.
Anyway I'm caught up finally, waited to binge episodes 2-7 over the last few days and I'm totally in love with this show! It's so cute and FUN! My favorite episode is all of them. I love Eda, and King, and Luz, and Luz's witch friends, and I really love Amity the most, she's like Diana but cuter and more interesting and rounded of a character in my opinion. I ship it because I'm worse than the vegetable fanfic writer from back in episode 1 and that's what I do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't know if I should feel sorry for Hooty, or if I should be as annoyed by him as everyone else. I think both.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.
Lilith is one of Amity's teachers, and so this
being done was inevitable.
Quick Thoughts for "Body Swap"
Yeah, this was a weak episode compared to the last ones. I appreciated the vignette style, the end part, and Luz-as-Eda's story as executed...but the other parts were very by-the-numbers. Still a lot of good gags, but definitely not much heart here. Hopefully the next episode ups the game

I enjoyed it a lot, but then again, "Freaky Friday" Flip is a trope I generally have a soft spot for. I really like body swaps. So it'd have been hard for this episode to get me to not like it!
When we're done, there won't be anything left. They didn't body swap?
They turned into eachother...otherwise that one gag near the end wouldn't make sense.

That was my take-away from the gag where they swapped back.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. My main complaint is that they retained their voices. I wanted to hear Sarah-Nicole Robles imitate Alex Hirsch, Alex Hirsch imitate Wendie Malick, and Wendie Malick imitate Sarah-Nicole Robles. Body-swapping is more fun when the voice actors are allowed to play the new characters inhabiting the bodies of their usual ones.
Also, Lilith was kind of wasted. She was there for about three minutes at the end just to reveal that Eda wanted to join the Emperor's Coven in her youth, which is something we probably could have learned on a future occasion anyway.

I mean...unless it's something that's acknowledged in the story, it never matters either way they do it.

Like...even if they did care, they only did what they did for self benefit.
