Spikes took a leave of absence from Mario 3 to New Super Mario Bros.
, at least as far as mainline titles went.

The Protomen enhanced my life.Oh, that's not promising. Teen Titans Go's creators are directing a film produced by the studio that made Minions a thing?
I no longer have any hope that the Toads won't be the most obnoxious things ever put to film.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Eh, I'm okay with that. Not only am I perfectly okay with Go's existence, but it's important to note that those guys have also done really good stuff like Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated. TTG is not where their career begins and ends.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI'm fine with Go's existence too in a vacuum, but a concoction of Teen Titans Go, the Minions from Despicable Me, and the Toads from Super Mario Bros. sounds like a recipe for way too much high-pitched squealing in every scene.

To be more specific, Michael Jelenic has worked on shows like Jackie Chan Adventures, The Batman, Legion Of Superheroes, co-created Batman: The Brave And The Bold (as well as co-producing the Scooby Doo crossover movie) and Thundercats 2011, and his movie credits include co-writing Wonder Woman 2009, Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas, Lego Justice League Vs Bizarro League, and the animated Adam West Batman movies. Aaron Horvath mainly worked on MAD as a writer and Unikitty as a producer, but he also did animation for shows like The Buzz On Maggie and El Tigre. Neither worked on Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated.

So the Teen Titans Go creators are directing this movie that comes from the same studio that brought us the Minions?
If I see this, I'll make sure to plan a funeral for my ears in advance.
Thousand Dreamers, Watashi wa Saikyo, and Believe slap so hard.Funny enough, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies was rather well-received as a theaterical release. It got to the point where people assumed the film got "different writers", when it was still Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic at the helm.

Teen Titans Go! tends to be at its strongest when it's in Affectionate Parody territory, in some cases being outright crossovers with whatever they're spinning.
I won't say "I have faith!" because, well, Go! also has a lot of dud episodes so the skepticism is warranted. But given they're handling the Mario IP directly I think they'll be in their element getting humor from preestablished elements. Doubly so if Nintendo has to approve the script and whatnot first.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI've certainly enjoyed Michael Jelenic body work and this actually makes me more at ease. Especially if we're getting deep cuts like Foreman Spike.
If anything, it would be the Goombas.

I'm not Illumination's biggest fan by any stretch, but y'all do realize not every film they make has Minions or a Minions equivalent, right?
In any case, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic on script duties gives some perspective as to why Foreman Spike of all characters will be in this: the two of them love themselves some Mythology Gags, so the film will likely be filled with references big and small to very facet of Mario's history. Frankly, if this is true, I'm actually now a bit more optimistic about the movie being more than just passable.

I mean. It's Super Mario. It should be inoffensive.

"Mario, bro, what-a did you expect? We've been-a to space. A-multiple times."
I jest (mostly, because TTG has had a lot of dud episodes), but then I recall GO to the Movies somehow got good buzz. And wait, Michael Jelenic co-created The Brave and the Bold? I actually didn't realize that until now.
Ultimately, this is a mixed bag for me. I'd have to see a trailer and early reactions before anything.

I assure you, I'm perfectly trustable person

Absolutely bananas that they're bringing back Foreman Spike of all characters. If this is a return to the pre-Yoshi's Island canon of the Bros being from Brooklyn before being sucked into the Mushroom Kingdom via warp pipe, I'll be very happy.
