The more I think about it, the more sense it makes for Ronnie and Vlad to have been the 4th Floor Master and Servant.

In which case, thank GOD they were skipped over. I really hated that Master, and they added absolutely nothing to the story.

I say it makes more sense because if the anime is following the game's progression, as it has so far, the options for 4th Floor are either Ronnie/Vlad or Monji Gatou and Arcueid. And while I like Gatou and think he's funny, introducing Arcueid would open a huge can of worms that I don't think Type-MOON is willing to get into, and she certainly isn't weak enough to be dismissed by Saber as a non-threat.

To be honest my first thought of non-threat is Elizabeth Bathory over Vlad, and CCC Ronnie did summon her and Liz murders her to go work for BB. Hell when Shinji was her master they acted like two little siblings rather than legitimate threats and we fight a tank instead.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.

I like to think Tamamo since it's somehow more appropriate. Anyways the Alice episode was pretty good and disturbing.

Original Hakuno was cute. Pity we didn't get to see much of her

So I guess that flashback was just for the audience's benefit? Kinda awkward when the discussion with Pieceman was important but handled similarly

I guess Rani is a ghost? And ghosts can move between floors? Now the question is if Toosaka is also one

[up]Pretty likely.

Damn that was a beautiful episode. SHAFT are pretty awesome when they play with aesthetics and I felt like crying in the flashback multiple times. I really wish now every servant in the game would have had this kind of life story recap.

That was kind of predictable narrative-wise, but still an awesome episode.

We get female-Hakuno's backstory. Identical to the game. I suppose the film room scene was her soul reaching out to male-Hakuno to give him what he needs.

And male-Hakuno (whom I'm just going to call "Hakuno" from now on) gets done with his introspection and resolves to be more than a Dead Face, with some encouragement from Nero.

Speaking of which, we can finally call her Nero. I find it kind of odd that they silenced her speaking her True Name when we already knew it. Also, I loved her line when Hakuno protests that he's just a dead person: "Well, I've been dead for 3,000 years!"

Rani wasn't dead... or maybe she still is... but then EVERYBODY in this show so far is dead so does it really matter? Regardless, "her role is over", and she and Rin were working together to get a Master to the sixth floor. Are they constructs sent by whatever's left of SE.RA.PH? That's my best guess, unless they're also part of the Chakravartin phenomenon.

I eagerly await seeing what's going to happen on the sixth floor. Considering that in the game, that was the floor you confronted either Rin or Rani as your opponent... I have no idea who the Floor Master is. Maybe the "real" Rin or Rani? Or maybe Shinji's girlfriend whose name I can't remember?

I'd also like to note that SHAFT is killing it with the varied animation styles. The hits in that last fight kind of seemed to lack a lot of impact, but the visuals really made up for it.

Ah, we can finally call Nero by her proper name! Very good.

The little theater flashback was such an awesome display of animation. Felt so bad for little puppet Nero.

Well, we're finally through Hakuno's self-image problems, with some help from Nero's brand of motivational speech.

Oh so Rani is alive, but then she just does one thing that could quite easily be left to Rin and then disappears at the end of the episode... so what was the point of bringing her back?

In case anyone is confused what Nero's Noble Phantasm does- It let her realize her aspirations. And since Nero always aspired to be equal to gods, it pretty much gives her a god mode. Pretty handy.

Now, 'm really interested in what awaits them on the sixth floor. I just hope they won't skip it and just start next episode with "Whew, that sixth floor was crazy!' tongue

Well, that wasn't what I expected. Though things going as expected has become the exception for this show

Is Amari ever going to be relevant, or is she just some weird red herring?

Rest of the series is in July?

So many answers, finally.

Interesting way to keep the decision of killing one or the other. But Rani couldn't be revived because her soul is artificial, or something? That wasn't that clear to me.

Wonder if Rin still has Cu Chulainn powers now, or if she's just a Servant-less Master.

Next stop, seventh and final floor, wherein I'm almost certain they'll meet up with Leo.

And yeah, the series is going on a hiatus until July for some weird scheduling reasons. Three more episodes to go.

Well, this actually explains everything, at least as far as Rin and Rani role in the story goes. As far as this particular anime goes, their story was rather straightforward. It was a clever twist on the choice about which one to save, and I have to say I like Hakuno's answer. Good thing Rin survived at least, since it really would be lonely without her.

Ah, now to wait for the last 3 episodes and whatever craziness they bring to the table.

So I composed a timeline of what the hell happened using conjectures from the episodes:

First of all, in the last holy grail war before everything stopped there was two Hakuno's. Male Hakuno (dubbed Hakuno M) that uses saber Foxtail. And female Hakuno using red saber (dubbed Hakuno F). The rules are changed a bit so a master can quit a stage and stop participating in the grail war while retaining their servants. Their opponents automatically win and ascend.

  • First round: Shinji Matou wins against Neil Armstrong and quits the war.
  • Second round: Hakuno M beats Dan Blackmore.
  • Third round: hakuno M manages to befriend Alice and thus ascend without killing her before the deadline. Alice goes unstable and murders the people remaining on the floor including Amari.
This is the last we see of Hakuno M.
  • Fourth round: ?
  • Fifth round: Hakuno F beats Julius.
*Sixth round: Hakuno F is fighting Leo and Rin fights Rani. Before the former can duke it out the latter's fight ends on a mutual kill.
  • Seventh round: Hakuno F beats Leo.
  • Final round: Hakuno F dies to Twice.

1000 years later, the whole system is failing and endlessly repeating the first day of the war with ghosts and deadfaces as the NP Cs back then. Every floor get a master generated from one who died in that floor, all except the first (which has a living master), fifth and sixth (since their contained masters that weren't completely dead). A deadface called Hakuno composed of both Hakuno M and Hakuno F manages to bond with a servant, making him the 129 servant. From here on the series progresses linearily, with some flashbacks.

[up] The thing is that HAKUNO's "memories" and flashbacks we have seen are fabricated to include HAKUNO in them. The Master who has JK Fox is a random Master. The Master who befriended Alice is another random Master. At least that is what the website says about him, based on translation.

Also to explain the first episode, SE.RA.PH has been running endless simulations of the preliminaries in past 1000 years in order to find a different outcome to it, It wasn't until the first episode that something different actually happened.

[up]It's possible that there are multiple Haukuno M (or that Hakuno F sometimes takes the place of Hakuno M), but for now we only have 2 disctinct masters and we know for sure that every event seen has happened in the final war, except maybe Dan Blackmore.

Yes that is also a possibility because CCC hasn't been said to not happen, and the CCC ending has the missing Hakuno replaced with another Hakuno.

Doing a quick bump to note that this is now officially up on Netflix worldwide

I'm curious to see if this series is received better with binge watching as compared to a week-by-week basis.

My initial reaction to episode 1 was: "…Wut?"

So now that I've decided to catch up (as there aren't a whole lot of series I'm interested in in the Summer lineup), I've rewatched it to refresh my memory.

And I reiterate my reaction: "…Wut?"

Let's see episode 2 now. tongue

This show's kind of gnawing at my curiosity, but I honestly don't know the first thing about Fate anything?

Exactly what's this about?

As someone who's never seen anything about the franchise and only knows it by name, I gathered that it's somewhat like Pokémon if the Pokémon were humans who are reincarnated people from world history and everyone's fighting for a Holy Grail.

Also, what's "Saberface" and would anyone recommend this show specifically to newcomers? If not, what would you recommend for noobs?

Imagine that but it's also in cyberspace.

This is a terrible series to get into the franchise with because the first episode is entirely banked around screwing with your preconceptions of the Fate/stay night characters, same with Fate/Extra's Saber, her resemblance to the Saber from Fate/stay Night and Fate/Zero is purely just to mess with your expectations.

"Saberface" is a name for anyone who looks like the Saber from Fate/Zero and Fate/stay Night but isn't her, watch either the Fate/Zero adaptation or the Fate/stay Night adaptation by ufotable as a starting point.
