- We were just gonna figure out a description rewrite and move the examples over, to preserve History and stuff, I guess.
Here's a draft?
See also Spell My Name with a "The". Inconsistent use causes The "The" Title Confusion, where it's unclear whether or not something begins with a "the".

We had a long talk about it on page 3...

So, we are making Definite Article Title, right? If so, what are your thoughts on the preliminary description above?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576
- Anything missing in the description?
Maybe less focus on "The", but that's minor?
I guess we can do with a quote and picture, but those are optional...
If you think we're good, just holler a mod to move the page and change the description...

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Rather than "Not to be confused with", I recommend "Inconsistent use causes" for the relationship to The "The" Title Confusion.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.
- Updated "preliminary" description.
Technically, any mod can do the move. Any other changes before I holler a mod, presuming they're not already watching...
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Okay, I think I've waited long enough... Who's a mod... Ah.
~Berrenta, could you move The The Title to Definite Article Title, and change the description to the "preliminary" one above?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Move done.
Time to move wicks. Not counting the redirects that will be cut, we got 250 to move
.

Calling "The Titling" as a Sub-Trope, of course.
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Can we not have somebody go around and add Definite Article Title to all works that start with a "the", like The Babadook? This feels more like an index page that can live without pointless crosswicks.
Edited by eroock on Mar 25th 2020 at 1:57:43 AM
- Well, no, this is a trope, but there should be context, like,
"Antagonist Title. 'Babadook' is the name of a singular monster, and 'The' means that it's not a personal name, but a type of object."

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Right, the definite article needs to have some added meaning. We can't just start adding every title that happens to have a definite article for no particular reason other than grammar. That's why this thread started in the first place.
It should not simply be an exhaustive list of grammatical examples, they need to be significant in some way.
For example, I think "The Dark Tower" (by Stephen King) would be a poor example, because the definite article is just a grammatical addition. "Dark Tower" has a more indefinite sound about it.

- I think that's a fine example to add. People use the Definite Article, for its Definite-ness.
But, we should also discuss, what's so special about this specific Dark Tower that makes it important enough to get the Definite-ness.
I know because it's some Multiversal Nexus or whatever, but that is an important part of the context.
It's not just for the definity, it's why this thing deserves definity.

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Yes, you could probably make an argument for that work. The problem is, though, that there are thousands of works with such titles. Do we really want such an extensive list? Who is going to read that anyway? If we really are going that route, then it would be better to either make it an index with a short description of the general idea, or a longer description with a few notable examples, with no further examples added.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesWell, then we're getting to the point of calling an Omnipresent Trope, right?
Huh. It seems like that was never floated as an option. Well, I'm okay with making it Omnipresent.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesIf Protagonist Title is one, despite not every working having one, than so is Definite Article Title, methinks.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"Should we single-prop crowner it, or just call everyone in and manual tally?

Crown Description:
What to do with The The Title? Note: Option 1 to 3 are not mutually exclusive, 3 and 4 are.

Other recent TRS threads have used sandboxes for that purpose, so that might be a good idea.
