"Most of you have heard of the recent events at Haven, and we all know about the Fall of Beacon. In these times of chaos, it has become more important than ever to stick together. Everything can be achieved when people are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in, and I truly believe that you, who enrolled to become Huntsman and Huntresses, will do so admirably.

Please do not prove me wrong.

Nevertheless, with that said, I wish to welcome you all to Shade Academy, and hope to guide you all on your journey to be come the men and women the world needs."

Setting Stuff: So, as you can all probably tell, this is a RWBY roleplay. Unlike others, however, this one is set at the one academy we know exactly nothing about: Shade, in Vacuo. As such, I fully expect it to be not at all canon compliant, as worldbuilding is welcome and encouraged.

It's also set after Volume Five. News of the events at Haven are fairly well-known, and with Beacon's fall, the stability of the other two schools has become so much more important. Not only that, the students of the other two schools are now Remnant's best hope for new Huntsmen and Huntresses.

As well as this, between another White Fang attack and the stepping up of the Menagerie faunus to help stop them, racial tensions are confused. Though many humans are no longer blaming all faunus for the actions of the White Fang, some remain, as always, convinced that the faunus are lesser beings. On top of the ever-present racism, however, the attack on Haven has caused splits in the faunus themselves. There are those that agree with the White Fang, and those who don't.

Amid rising pressure to do well, racial tensions, and a threat of an attack looming on the horizon, the new batch of students are certainly going to have an interesting time at Shade....

Rules:

1. All the forum rules. All of them. Especially be nice.

2. If you want your character to have abilities beyond the norm (you know what I'm talking about), please PM me, and we'll talk about it. Make sure they have a good reason for having those abilities, otherwise they'll just be dismissed out of hand. This also goes if you have anything about your character that you want to keep secret, like background or Semblance. That's fine, just please clear it with me first.

3.Worldbuilding is fine, and encouraged, but please no contradicting canon up to the end of Volume Five. Apart from that... eh. Have fun.

4. I'd like to start with two teams, but, it is possible to sign-up as a teacher, if you feel like playing someone with a little more experience.

5. Sign-ups are first-come, first-served, but if you want to reserve a place while you figure stuff out, that's fine. Just know that that place won't stay reserved forever.

6. Remember that this is Vacuo, a chaotic, messy place, where people have to fight just to survive. Just keep that in mind. However, transfer students are fine, especially from Vale, since their school....collapsed.

7. This is my first time GM-ing an RP, so please be nice. Also, if you feel like being a co-GM, please tell me, because I could probably use some help.

  • Appearance: Isidora looks young for her age, more around the 25 mark, than the 35 mark. With wavy pale blue hair and eyes to match, she's certainly noticeable. She wears a white sundress, and a very large sunhat, both of which contribute to her youthful look.
  • Personality: Kind, calm and relaxed, Isidora always puts the lives of her students first. She's quite motherly, always ready to offer advice. Whereas Ozpin preferred to be enigmatic and mysterious, Isidora isn't one to mince words, but she will do her best to soften the blow. In other terms, she's the Hufflepuff (which, I suppose would make Ozpin a Slytherin, Ironwood a Gryffindor, and Leo a Raveclaw?).

  • Name: Joellen "Joe" Arcbright
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 17
  • Species: Human
  • Appearance: Joellen is very much an absolutely gorgeous specimen of a man - his face is masculine, hard yet with some semblance of a babyface, lending a slight pretty element to it. His jawline and chin are precision trimmed of all hair, speaking of an obsession with this masculine beauty. His hair is slightly long, golden blond, and rather disorderly - it almost resembles a mullet. His eyes are icy blue, and even his eyebrows can be seen to be trimmed and tailored by him. His body is very muscular, though again with elements of an obsession showing in just how toned and strong he is. His clothes are comprised of a black sleeveless shirt just tight enough to show everything off, a silver and blue jacket over this, tailored black leather pants, and silver boots with metal reinforcement over the toes.
    • If you want an image of what sort of body / build Joellen has, see this.
  • Personality: Let's...just say beauty doesn't automatically make someone good. As alluded to above, Joe is an extremely, extremely prideful young man - he is convinced of his own perfection, as a masculine specimen, as a fighter, and in general. This pride manifests in Jerk Jock behaviors, talking down to others, playing the school bully almost to the hilt, and bragging of any sort of superiority he has over others. The regrettable thing is he is no Smug Snake - he is close to as powerful and smart as he thinks he is. This young man is basically The Ace, though a bit too reliant on combat orthodoxy and technique during a fight. Joe despises men who fail to be as muscular as he is, or lack his beauty, and has tendencies regarding the women he dates - to be blunt, he is a cocky philanderer. He is rather prejudiced toward faunus - though given some of his friends are faunus, he seems to adhere to the "good ones" and "bad ones" sort of conception of them. Joellen is however very enthusiastic about becoming a Hunter - though this is tinged with his usual egotism - he wants to be the very best Hunter there ever was, desiring to be a living legend.
  • Background: Joellen belonged to an affluent and powerful family back in Vale - during the calamitous events of the Battle of Beacon, they seemed to know something was going to go down and made sure he was "out of town" during events, despite the fact his Semblance and abilities would have been very useful. In general his father and especially his mother are rather shady people, involved in dirty dealings - they are powerful allies to the Hunter authorities, but it is made obvious they are only tolerated due to their resources. And now, during the modern day, he has been transferred to the new Academy to complete his education as a Hunter.
  • Weapons/Equipment: Golden Arc-Vraze, his three mode greatsword, given to him by his parents. It can turn into a pair of smaller, swifter swords, a large cannon that fires a huge energy blast, and a large shield with a sword blade extending from it. However it needs to switch back to greatsword mode to change from one mode into another.
  • Semblance: Bright Law, a powerful Energy Absorption Semblance which lets him absorb any energy he is aware of coming toward him, and either shoot it right back, create energy blasts using it, or use it to reinforce his body, speed or defensive capacities. This includes kinetic energy - though it does need mentioning Bright Law can only work on attacks he sees or hears coming, and that which he understands.
  • Non-Combat Abilities: he is a capable leader though one prone toward self advancement - he knows how to make use of other people's abilities in combinations. He is quite analytical, and capable in sizing people up. Given his parents natures and their involvement with him, he can make good use of money and manipulation.

  • Personality: Sini can be summed up pretty much as "has her head in the clouds". She's eccentric, curious, and all over the place at times. She can go from calm and collected to manic and excited in a heartbeat if something interests her. She's superstitious too, ever since her ordeal out in the desert, believing in the existence of fate, destiny and magic. With almost everyone telling her that what she saw was a mirage, it's a testament to her stubbornness that she still believes what she does, of which is often taken to a fault. She has a very short attention span, unless something really interests her, so she'll often lose focus of tasks at hand if something else that's remotely interesting comes up. Despite all the rambling about magic at times, she's perfectly sane, though she's no stranger to weird looks from others.

  • Background: Born in Vacuo, Sini is the only daughter of a Dust shop owner mother and a stay-at-home dad. Her father was the type of person who'd always be involved with one new hobby or the other, switching between them like day changes to night and night to day. Sini often bonded with him over his little escapades at times, and while her mother would often go on about "those two and their misadventures" disapprovingly, she accepted it, secretly a tiny bit glad that two were so close.

    • Of course, this changed when Sini, 10 years old at the time, had gotten so riled up from hearing fairy tales of old that she wandered out into the desert on her own, getting lost. For nearly half a day she wandered, confused, until she found herself surrounded by (illusory, a mirage at the time) Grimm. Scared and too exhausted to escape, she had given up hope when a figure suddenly appeared, and with awesome power (as she imagined it) and destroyed the Grimm. She followed the figure as they walked away, before finally collapsing from exhaustion. By some miracle, she was found not long after that, and taken back home.

    • After that, things changed. Her mother brought her foot down on the adventures with her father, keeping a much stricter watch on Sini. Sini, however, was more curious than ever, convinced that magic was real. Determined to find out more and hopefully one day prove it, she set to studying, and applied to combat school in hopes of becoming a Huntress. She figured that the Grimm would have to tie into the existence of magic somehow. At combat school, she met Kha Leijon, son of the head if the Leijon School of martial arts. Given that his father was an archeologist, and Kha had often gone along with him, the two became close friends, and prompted Sini to become a student of Leijon School Karate under his mother's tutelage. While Kha went off to Beacon, Sini stuck to Shade. Needless to say, after confirming that Kha was okay, life has gone back to normal for her, though who knows what lies ahead.

  • Weapons/Equipment:

    • Will 'o Wisps: Sini's weapon is a set of 6 orbs that are slightly larger than baseballs, 3 stored on each arm and with matching Dust-infused gloves. Using these gloves, Sini is able to remotely manipulate the orbs at various ranges. While she can physically hit targets with these, she much prefers to use them to channel Dust for various effects, including Gravity Dust for slowing her falls and movement bursts. The orbs are reloaded simply by returning to their holders for a few seconds. The orbs are also designed to withstand her Semblance usage without damage.

  • Semblance: Sini's Semblance, much like herself at moments, is Volatile. She can cover objects she touches (and anything her Aura touches indirectly, such as through her weapons) with her own Aura. She can then make the Aura explode with kinetic force (without accounting for Dust usage) at will, often destroying the object as well. Anything that's protected by someone else's Aura already, such as their weapons, is not damaged. People are not hurt when they are covered in Aura this way and it explodes, though anything near enough will still be hit by the explosion. If push comes to shove, she can make the Aura that covers her explode, either all over or at specific parts.

  • Non-Combat Abilities:

    • Sini is quite knowledgeable when it comes to history, especially with regards to legends and folklore, as well as Dust mechanics seeing as they're a vital part of her weapon.

    • One of her hobbies is doing "mystic" stuff like reading tea leaves, and she almost always has some dice on her for rolling to check her luck.

    • Sini's pretty smart, though she's rather good at analytical thinking and problem solving.

  • Name: Regina Amber
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 17
  • Species: Faunus (Lion)
  • Appearance: The strongest weakling. She's small for a member of the Nemean Pride, but otherwise a bigger than average girl at 5'10". She's often working on machines, so she'll be covered in spots of grease. Her right arm up to her shoulder and left leg up to her shin are prosthetics with an orange paintjob. She usually wears goggles over her head.
  • Personality: Regina is rowdy, short-tempered, and reckless. She usually seems disinterested in anything that isn't machines or fighting. Her obsession with machines manifests as infectious enthusiasm. She genuinely believes she can and should automate all mundane tasks using robots, so that she can spend her days lazing around.
  • Background:
    • Out in the lawless arid wastes of Vacuo, you might see a convoy of decorated caravans drawn by scrapped-together mechs belonging to the Nemean Pride. Their job is to travel, hunt Grimm, and trade in the Dust they unearth — all skills Regina wasn't good at.
    • Imagine the Nemean Pride's disappointment when the daughter of one of their toughest hunters was born a talentless, annoying runt; so eager to prove her hunting prowess but without the skill to back it up. So Regina was given lesser tasks — cooking, cleaning, operating simple machines, and performing basic maintenance.
    • Regina quickly picked up skills working on machines that got her put in the mines working on the machines the convoy used to unearth Dust. However, this one day led to her losing her left leg in a horrible machinery accident and in a naïve effort to save it, her right arm as well.
    • It took a year — an agonizing year confined to a caravan with nothing but her (badly drawn with her non-dominant hand) designs to keep her busy — for her to overcome the trauma of the accident and get over her fear of actually working on machines again. Soon enough, though, Regina was back to work, inspired by the use of springs in the Nemean Pride's vehicle suspension. She constructed herself better prosthetics, fitted herself with them, and went out to hunt.
    • Suddenly, Regina was getting stronger by the day. With the power of Regulus coiled into her right shoulder, Regina demonstrated increasingly impressive displays of strength. It got to a point where Regina had no choice but to go professional, and Shade was the best place to do it. With a heavy heart, Regina left the convoy behind to seek new fortunes.
  • Weapons/Equipment:
    • Regina's right arm is a prosthetic called Regulus. Most of it except for the hand and the shoulder is made of a coiled, segmented metal ribbon that constricts into the shape of a human arm. These coils are manipulated magnetically; for example they can uncoil like a spring to punch distant targets with explosive force. Furthermore, the arm acts as a railgun that carries Dust rounds from an ammo supply in her forearm to a barrel in her index finger.
    • Regina's left leg up to her shin is also a prosthetic, called Denebola. It isn't a highly manipulable coil like Regulus, but still contains spring power nonetheless. Since only one of her legs is a prosthetic, she can't run any faster than normal, but the leg lets her spring off the ground at high speeds.
    • Regina's tool belt holds an assortment of tools — magnetic screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, a Scroll holder, a purse, hooks to carry deactivated robots etc. Regina also carries a pair of multi-purpose (zoom, identify, x-ray) goggles.
  • Semblance: Regina's Semblance temporarily transforms portions of her skin into metal. It protects well against penetrating attacks like bullets and spears, but fares worse against blunt blows. Nonetheless, it still lets Regina pack a mean left hook in the case Regulus is temporarily unusable. Regina cannot armor her entire body at once, the strain on her low stamina and Aura would knock her out.
  • Non-Combat Abilities: Regina is an expert on Dust and non-Dust technology. She builds small robots for all sorts of mundane tasks, like writing, cleaning, and carrying luggage.

  • Name: Forrest Squire
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 16
  • Species: Goat faunus
  • Appearance: Dark brown skin, bald, thick jaw, large nose, large prominent horns, a cleft all the way down his face, green eyes. Wears full body covering armor modeled after the samurai, complete with a grinning, tusk mouth mask and visors over his eyes. Largely has a green/brown color scheme.
  • Personality:
    • Hides his shyness and self-image issues behind a mask of stoicism and silence.
      • For example, wears a mask to hide his ugly face, in his opinion, but hopes everyone thinks its cool.
      • When he does talk, he tends to fuck it up, especially when he tries to be funny. Then, what passes for a sense of humor with him make him appear even stranger.
    • Bug-fucking-nuts over his hate of the Grimm. Goes borderline ballistic at the sight of them. When possible, he will take his time killing one, to make sure the monster suffers for existing.
      • He has some self-awareness that this is a problem and wants to learn to reign himself in, but it's so difficult.
      • Although he finds Vacuo pleasant for many other reasons, he sneers at their sheer arrogance of them using "tamed monsters". He is less forgiving towards others who would weaponize the Grimm, like the White Fang.
    • His hate for the Grimm and those would deal with them aside, Forrest is a man of peace. He believes in brotherhood and everyone working together and respecting the environment too. He has a hard time attacking people unless they've somehow made it on his shit-list, then that switch gets flipped.
      • Self-awareness also informs him this a problem, as some people are ultimately a threat to the safety and sanctity of society. But it's difficult for him to see past his optimistic beliefs.
    • Listens to a lot of heavy metal outside of battle. If the music is being angry, than he doesn't have time to be.
      • In battle, he switches to happy pop music for the exact same reason.
    • Tinkers with his weapons to "stim" whenever he finds himself antsy or nervous.
  • Background:
    • Lived in a village within the outer-reaches of Mistral. There, he was a weapons smith's apprentice who helped arm and armor the warrior brotherhood that protected the village. There, he also wasn't very popular due to his awkwardness, far too prominent faunus traits and his ass-face.
    • The second-in-command of the brotherhood, unknown to the others, had his son captured by bandits. Using that as leverage, he opened the gates to them at night, only to find to his horror that they had herded Grimm towards the village.
    • As the creature of Grimm ravage his village, Forrest fought with an axe in hand like a person possessed. With boiling blood and ravenous hatred for these things killing his friends and family, his aura and his semblance awoke. He fought on and on then, tireless against the black tide and on they came, attracted to this beacon of fury.
    • Only the intervention of an actual hunter team saved the boy and what few survivors there were of the village. As alumni themselves, they personally recommended Shade. By what he was told by other survivors afterwards, Mistral's corruption and apathy were partly responsible for his village's doom. So, disgusted with that, he took the hunters' advice and went to Vacuo. With their help, he went through a combat school until he qualified for Shade.
  • Weapon/Equipment: First and foremost to understand here, Forrest is a tinkerer. He was a weapons smith's apprentice as a matter of his original passion and that never went away. Therefore, he has less of "a weapon" and more of "an armory". There is consequence to this, each individual weapon is not as fine-tuned as a single labor of love and he never quite mastered one but has instead become competent at each.
    • Viridus Contemptor: His armor. Infused with wind and gravity dust, it gives him greater freedom of movement as well as an extra degree of protection. He's no speedster, but he can move noticeably faster than the norm. He helmet comes with an in-built scroll that keeps track of his ammo. The armor can also be temporarily powered up by special crafted dust being crushed in his gauntlet and absorbed. He cannot use more than one without risking the integrity of his armor's circuity.
      • Lightning Speed: Crushing lightning dust simply makes his armor even faster. Still not to speedster levels though.
      • Icy Endurance: Crushing ice dust increases his armor's endurance and especially makes it fire resistant.
      • Fiery Strength: Crushing fire dust increases his armor's strength. He also says it makes him angrier but that's not true.
    • Force Of NatureBark & Bite: Forrest's main, a shotgun that turns into a chain sword-ax. The weapon he is slightly more than just merely competent at.
    • The Olive Branch: A chain gun that turns into a rocket launcher, not terribly subtle.
    • Venomous BiteThunderwood: A pistol that turns in a bearpair of knuckle dusters. An experimental weapon that uses dust as foci rather than ammunition and instead drains aura to power itself. Not terribly powerful, it's a weapon of last resort.
    • Nature's Wrath In Hand: An enormous, boxy, cumbersome thing that, theoretically, takes the Venomous BiteThunderwood concept above to the next level. Problematically, though Forrest is sure he's got the gun part down, but ammunition must be specially manufactured by his own hands. He has yet to actually produce whatever ammunition is meant to be fed into the spherical slot at the top.
  • Semblance: Grimm Absorption, he has the passive ability to absorb the dust of dead Grimm and convert it into his aura. A logical side-effect of this is that he can sense nearby Grimm.
  • Non-Combat Abilities: No roboticists, but Forrest is well versed in metallurgy and engineering principles and no slouch when it comes to information technology.

  • Name: Elena "Lina" Kokino
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 18
  • Species: Faunus (Dragon)
  • Appearance: Red hair, red eyes, red lips, red everything. Also has a dual pair of horns like this that are, you guessed it, dark red in color. Her sense of style involves black clothes, jeans, leather jackets, a pair of super high boots, and those sorts of things - with a flare of red, of course. Her build leans much more towards weightlifter than sprinter due to her fighting style involving heavy lifting, but her clothes make it very hard to tell.
  • Personality: Headstrong with a rebellious streak, Elena comes off as a bit rough and loud but can better be described as someone who isn't too keen on, in her own words, rigidly following society's laws like a sheep. She doesn't like a lot of "girly" things and maybe likes black humor a bit too much. She generally won't do things she thinks are bullshit or dumb, and will make it abundantly clear how she feels on the subject, but also has a strong sense of pride and a few traces of personal honor.
  • Background: Elena comes from a relatively upper-class family in Mistral, and as such was expected to conform to a great degree and be rather 'proper' to avoid scandal. Lina wasn't a fan. She wanted to be a huntress, a rockstar, and a dozen other things that didn't involve stuffy business meetings and stiffer business suits. That bit of a rebellious streak had her parents get so upset that they sent her to an ultra-strict private girl's military academy for combat school. Having all the instructors be so strict about everything sucked, but at least she was able to practice punching stuff, and used her free time to form a hard rock and metal band with a few other classmates.

Being able to keep her grades decent and her band activities out of trouble, she was able to graduate without too much incident, though naturally she had a few incidents during her schooling. After graduating though, she got careless and reckless during the summer between classes. Although originally planning (or at least, being made to) go to Haven, the embarrassment her parents felt at a certain public scandal involving her band's drummer made her have to go to a safety school instead - in this case, Shade. It was hard enough being faunus without their daughter raising hell, so this way she would be far enough away to avoid being in their hair. It worked out though, because Elena wasn't particularly happy with Mistral and wouldn't mind putting a few hundred (or thousand) miles between her and that Kingdom.
  • Weapons/Equipment:
    • Varys: A bulky, all-encompassing suit of metal armor. (And with a color scheme that is mostly black with red highlights.) It doesn't have a lasercannon, it doesn't have a jetpack, it doesn't have any of that - what it does have is sheer bulk. It is astonishingly heavy and dense, so she's not going to be winning any races with it, but it can dish out some serious blunt force trauma with any part of it. That bulk also makes it impossible to tell just who's under the armor when it's on. When not deployed, it collapses into a much more manageable pair of (still extremely heavy) thigh-high combat boots with pointed tips and heels.
    • Exousia: An electric-guitar-looking guitar with a razor-sharp body that lets it function as a literal axe. It is also very heavy. It transforms into a grenade launcher.
  • Semblance - Transmission: The ability to store and then control her aura in things. Similar to a battery, but instead of storing energy, it stores aura. The biggest usage is that she can use it to jump out of her armor but still control it like a puppet - a poor-man's shadow clone.   • Name: Verina Grau. Also goes by Ginkishi, or Silver Knight if you can't into Mistralian.
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 18
  • Species: Human
  • Appearance: In civies, 5'9 of height. Ginkishi duds. Thunder thighs strong enough to snap a Beowulf's neck.
  • Personality: An unashamed Mistralophile. Once Verina gets into the role, she will remain in character - and that includes all sorts of ridiculous, contrived things like big speeches, big poses and loudly-announced attacks. She gives it her all - chiefly as a form of escapism, secondarily to motivate and raise the morale of others - and is hotheaded enough for the role to sell it well. Probably not hotheaded enough to qualify as "has anger issues", but it's easy to provoke her, particularly when her buttons - thinking less of women, looking down on others or anything to do with "time-honored traditions" - are pressed. Has a healthy sense of adventure and curiosity. Sprinkles her speech with Mistralian. Is surprisingly not-racist towards Fauni for an Atlesian rich kid.
  • Background: Verina Grau comes from a fairly affluent Atlesian family of SDC subsidiaries. As the runt of the five kid litter - and the only girl, at that - she was given little time of day from her parents - an important dignitary in Atlesian military and a neurotic socialite trophy wife, respectively. Her father saw little worth in her; something that stemmed from all of Verina's brothers being disappointments across the line and his own belief in patriarchy. Desperate to keep the Grau name relevant, he planned for his only daughter to take a hand of a particularly wealthy nobleman at the height of social position. Verina's opinion didn't matter, but she didn't know that yet.
    • Normally, kids like these end up really bad, but despite all this - or perhaps because of this - Verina grew up as a happy-go-lucky child. Assisted by her erstwhile butler Quincy, she involved herself in all kinds of adventures, playing with other kids - it didn't matter if they had animal bits or not; Quincy himself advertised against racism. At some point, she got hooked on Mistralian cartoons and thus began her fascination with the exotic culture of the East. She decided; she would become a heroine in a fancy transforming armor, bringing smiles and help to the innocents and giving the bad guys what-for.
    • After completing Alsius School and constructing her unique (and I mean, an average Atlas mechanist would flip a lid upon seeing this-unique) gear, she set out to Atlas Academy and passed the first year splendidly... and then, it was time to get married. Her armor was taken, her will was restricted and she was forbidden to leave the premises of the Grau household. Naturally, Verina was furious, particularly since her father dismissed her aspirations as "childish fantasies" and her mother offered little support to speak of, busy on yet another party. She met the groom at the day of the wedding; forty years older than her. Not the one to be caged, she made a public announcement at the altar that she is being coerced into marriage. Surprisingly, it was the groom himself who understood the most - everyone else was agitated that she would dare ruin such a prestigious ceremony and over such a trivial matter too.
    • Her father hit her there, in front of the priest, furious at the disobedience. She hit him back. Hard. Hard enough to send him flying through the door. For the longest time, Verina had been afraid of her controlling parents, able to oppose them, but never quite so. That changed on that day. She was promptly disowned and near-arrested, but the groom - a fairly upstanding man, all things considering - took her under his wing; not as a wife, but as an adoptive daughter. Verina accepted without a second thought, happy to finally be rid of the gilded cage she was trapped in. Subsequently, she was on a flight to Vacuo, as far away from Atlas as possible.
    • The one last thing before she parted ways with Quincy - who was fired by her blood parents and promptly re-admitted by her adoptive father - was to make sure nobody would disarm her ever again. With a chip that let her literally "transform" into her armored self implanted into her neck, Verina Grau set out to fulfill her dream.
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • Ginkishi - Her pride and joy, this is a suit of armor custom made by Verina and then enhanced with proper Atlesian tech, as much a part of her identity as a Silver Knight as her projected persona. It might not look like much, but it actually offers a solid defense against physical violence while keeping the user light on her feet, allowing her to zip around no sweat. Fully insulated, it offers an excellent protection against both the biting cold and the unforgiving hot. Ginkishi's main feature are exhausts on its arms and legs. Whenever Verina strikes, they release a burst of energy, adding to her already monstrous strength. They can also be used for movement, propelling her great distances and making up for Ginkishi's lack of ranged weaponry. to that end, the soles of the boots are equipped with rollerblades whenever she needs to get around fast.
    • The helmet is outfitted with a bunch of helpful tech; among those are nightvision and heatvision, built-in Scroll operated with a thought, Aura meter for herself and any would-be teammates with synchronized Scrolls and a voice enhancer.
    • The scarf does nothing, but it's super cool, so she keeps it around.
  • Semblance - Fighting Spirit - ...it actually isn't Fighting Spirit, but a more mundane case of passively-increased physical strength. Not much to write about. Verina can push it further, but that causes a strain on her body and may end in career-ending damage if kept up for too long.
  • Non-Combat Abilities:
    • Ask her about Mistralian culture. Do it. Be amazed. She'll know whatever you ask of her.
    • Knows her way around tech and tuning.
    • Basic cooking skills.
    • A wonderful singing voice.

  • Appearance: A stocky girl with gills on both sides of her neck and waist length black hair. She is typically clad in purple shorts and a blue shirt, and is barefoot when she can get away with it.

  • Personality: Due to the circumstances of her upbringing, Naia is nonverbal and largely communicates through sign language. She still has some holdovers from her life as a feral child, such as her willingness to take things that don't belong to her and her tendency to hoard food, but she's loyal and friendly to those she cares about, and she‘s quite observant and cunning. She desperately wants to be liked by other people, but she’s not entirely sure how to do that. Perhaps most noticeably, she possesses an impish sense of humor, and on some level, she treats it as a joke when she makes people uncomfortable. (She’d be much angstier otherwise.)

  • Background:

    • When Naia was three, she and her family were in a shipwreck. Naia’s parents didn’t make it, but Naia survived and spent the next several years on her own, living in the sea.

    • As she grew older, she grew curious about the people in the surface, and she began spying on them. This came in handy when she saw fisherman Glaucus Nerida drowning during a storm, and the ten-year-old Naia saved him and took him back to the surface.

    • Over the next few years, Naia learned how to live among people from Glaucus and his wife Mazu, including sign language. She wasn’t popular among the other villagers, for being a Faunus and for not quite understanding the minutiae of social interactions. After an incident where a village boy harassed her and Naia bit him, Glaucus and Mazu decided to send her to Shade, in the hopes that she would learn in a safe environment there.

  • Weapons/Equipment: Great White, a trident that can release electric shocks.

  • Semblance: Feeding Frenzy: Naia becomes stronger and faster, her teeth become bigger and sharper, and her inhibitions are loosened. She once bit through a metal pole while in this state.

  • Name: Nadeshiko 'Pyro' Kurosawa
  • Gender: Female

  • Species: Human
  • Appearance: Pyro is a beautiful, Asian woman. Or, she would be if most of her body wasn't covered in ugly red burns. Her body is marked by horrific burns and she wears an eyepatch due to losing an eye. She's also missing her left arm, having replaced it with a robotic prosthetic. Generally, she wears a sarashi and a black-and-white kimono with black modesty shorts. She tends to wear a conical, steel hat to hide her burnt face and open-toed boots. She has shoulder length hair that is streaked with ashy white.
  • Personality: Pyro is a bit of a delinquent. She smokes, she's somewhat sarcastic and, despite her intentions, she can come off as rude. Despite, or perhaps because of her injuries, she absolutely hates any attempt to pity her-though she'll use it to gain an edge. Nadeshiko is terrified of any sort of fire larger than a lighter. Unfortunately, due to being raised an assassin, Nadeshiko has really no concept of 'friendly jabs' and will react to jokes with venom.
  • Background: In the swamps of Kajuka, in Anima, there is a clan of well-trained assassins. Famous for working for both the black market and kings. However, once there was an assassin who, during a sparring session, lost her arm and fell into a firepit, scarring herself horribly. Pyro, as she came to be known, was seen as a bit of a weakling for that. However, despite her attempts to be tough and cold-hearted, Pyro failed again when, despite being fine with killing, she was unable to stomach the idea of not killing someone outside of open combat. Realizing that she wasn't able to support the family name, her father faced two options: Kill her, or strip her of her name and cast her out. She jumped on a ship and eventually was invited to Shade-a possible path to redemption.
  • Weapons/Equipment: The Four: Whereas most people rely on one weapon, Pyro wields four, as befitting an assassin's daughter. She keeps these in various places inside her kimono, generally in her sleeves.
    • Totsuka-no-Tsurugi- Pyro's katana and the weapon she uses the most, Totsuka is a standard katana which she keeps on her left hip. The Blade is made of a special, dust based metal to counter the sword's inherently brittle design. The special thing is the fact that the sheath hooks a metal ring over the hand guard, keeping it non-lethal until she activates the thumbprint detection on the sheathe.
    • Kama Itachi: A Kusari-Gama, with a chain that extends about ten feet, instead of a counterweight, it has a dagger with two blades, one sticking straight up, the other jutting out a ninety-degree angle. The chain comes off, meaning both of these are usually stored in her sleeves. There's the third head that she keeps at her hip, this one is unique in the fact that it's a thin, flat ring with an inward facing blade, resembling a flying guillotine. Pyro can also connect the chain to the hilt of her katana.
    • Nue: A long, four sectioned spear with two, leaf-shaped spears on both ends. It folds up, with three folding points. She keeps this tied and folded to her back.
    • Isonade: A large, single barrel handcannon. It's flintlock and fires one shot, but this blow can easily pierce through armour plate at close range. strapped to under her right arm.
    • Karasu: A series of small, throwing knives. These generally work against Faunus and humans, due to their small size, even then there's more of an attempt to wear the opponent down.
  • Semblance: Amme-Onna: Nadeshiko is able to generate a pale, white mist around her, drawing on air to make the area around her harder to see. Generally, however, she sticks to forming a pillar of fog around herself or somewhere else as a distraction.

Well, here's a sheet. Hopefully it's up to par. >.< And, um, if anything needs changing or elaborated on, let me know. Although considering there's two teams of four and 8 people have been accepted, I guess it'll go on the waiting list or whatnot, I suppose.

  • Name: Lee Ferric. (Ferric is related to Iron, which is silver/grey, usually.)
  • Gender: Male.
  • Age: 18.
  • Species: Human.
  • Appearance: Something like this. Mouse brown hair, slightly shimmering silver eyes and sharply dressed, Lee stands at about 5'6 and...is surprisingly slender in frame with fairly pale skin.
  • Personality: Compared to other potential hunters, Lee seems to be far more level-headed and down to earth, preferring to think things through instead of rushing through things recklessly. While it's likely to put him at odds with other hunters, he still tries his best to be polite and nice to others regardless of how they treat him, along with defending those who need someone to stick up for them.

    • Having said that however, beneath the friendly and experienced exterior is a rather quiet, lonely and rather apologetic young man who's quite shy, even moreso if he's backed into a corner or given praise he thinks he's undeserving of it. Given the recent events, his confidence certainly shaken, but he's not exactly the sort to simply give up and with his strong moral compass and wishing to help those in need, he tries to keep up that smile.

  • Background: For someone who's usually honest and content to talk about his team and accomplishments at Beacon before it fell, any questions inquiring about him before he became a student seems to be a subject he's not exactly comfortable with. In reality, Lee is, or rather was, the only child and technically, the last surviving member of the Sapervi family and their former business in manufacturing custom-made weapons on request for potential Hunters. Growing up was easy...yet at the same time, he didn't rest on his laurels and take everything for granted as it was clear he had expectations to live up to.

    • As the years passed by however, it became harder to ignore what some of the 'class' he was a part of was like. Many saw him as a potential honor student for Atlas Academy, but that came to an end standing up for a faunus and doing the right thing. When the punches began to land against him, Lee's semblance awakened, with the racist being fortunate enough that it was just it getting grazed by a blade made of Aura rather than losing their arm.

    • ...Needless to say, the 'victim' and facility was quick to pin the blame on him, causing a bit of a stir to increase potential student safety...along with his family's name becoming somewhat distrusted for their child's...attitude and understandably, they threatened him with a terrible punishment if his grades fell even slightly or his 'attitude' remained. A prototype was developed in an attempt to 'disable' or at least subdue a students Aura. Not many units were produced and the School refused to let Lee re-attend unless he wore it on school ground.

    • But even with him wearing the suppressor to prevent another accident and managing to pulling top grades when graduating, the damage to his family's reputation had been done. After blaming their child for causing such a stir and showing their true colors about caring more of their business or his consideration for those 'filthy animals and worthless lower class', the young man's fake smile finally faded as he, simply gathered his things and left, throwing away his family's name and continuing to wear that armlet and leaving Atlas and the few friends he had left, behind.

    • Two years ago, not long before he was to turn 17, was he admitted to Beacon...and after things fell apart, he was forced to 'transfer' and trek to Shade on his own, hoping to find anyone he knew at back at the Academy after they'd been separated.

  • Weapons/Equipment: Volition: A rather ornate longsword, yet somewhat rugged in appearance. One might assume that the blade itself is broken as it seems to be split into what some would assume resembles a jagged tuning fork and they would be right in a sense. These twin blades nonetheless retain a durable and sharp cutting edge capable of slice through most opposition.

    • Another feature recently added to this weapon however is an internal power source located in the blade's hilt. While his semblance isn't active, the generator is capable of generating energy which can be fired either in a short range, if powerful concentrated laser to give the sword slightly more or create a small barrier of energy as a means of self-defense. While his semblance is active and reacting to his Aura however, it acts more like a proper railgun or being able to create a chain of energy which can latch into an object or Grimm, making it function as a rather flashy grappling hook.

    • Aur Sem-Suppressor: The rather bulky armlet on his wrist Lee's had since his years at that Private High Class Combat school. Like the name might imply, it was designed to keep Lee's Aura and by extension, preventing any further accidents. It's not clear on who designed this device or how exactly it works but Lee barely bothers to remove it unless it's necessary, nor is he willing to try and figure out on what makes it tick just yet.

  • Semblance: Nil Vortex => Omni Overdrive. To put it simply, if the bracelet's on, it's the former. Once it comes off, it's the latter.

    • Nil Vortex: Most of the time, his 'semblance' isn't really much to speak of as he acts as a sort of beacon or 'bait' for Grimm with when he's wearing his armlet. Think of his Aura as a small flicker of light compared to what a normal Hunter would possess. While this leaves him with practically no defense if he gets hurt along with having to rely on his team-mates and his own fighting skills...the practical uses it has in distracting Grimm to focus on him gives his allies time or being able to lure them into a more favorable position certainly has it's value.

    • Omni Overdrive: Simply removing the armlet is enough for Lee's Aura to swiftly flare up and blaze brightly. In this state, he's far more durable and agile. Aside from that, he's capable of creating blades out of Aura and control them at will, either using them for offense by having them fly at an opponent, having them remain stationary and having them suddenly close on an opponent or combine them together with Volition to create a blade with larger reach or even use them as if they were extra limbs. The issues with this however is that the blades dissipate if they move too far from Lee and at the moment, making blades with along the boost in defense and mobility is all he can really do with his Aura for the moment.

Along the fact it's more likely to surge out of control and probably literally burn him out with probably fatal results, cancelling it requires putting the armlet back on with three minutes being the limit he can handle before things start going downhill health-wise and FAST. In addition, until the suppressor stabilizes his Aura levels, he's unable to use Nil Vortex for at least twelve hours. So all in all, triggering this aspect of his semblance is only done when he desperately needs the boost.

  • Non-Combat Abilities: Lee has an almost uncanny affinity with gadgets, gizmos and machines in general, a lot of his time is tinkering with anything mechanical, 'upgrading' it or even adding more features to it, but isn't great at programming machinery meaning he's fairly simple with designs despite some of the complex features. He's also a capable field medic if the situation calls for it and really good at making desserts and sweets.

  • Theme Song: Well, it matches the name/color theme I picked, I suppose.

Faculty, you say?

  • Name: Kou Tetsugakusha.
  • Gender:
  • Age: 35.
  • Species: Human.
  • Appearance: Kou seems to only own a single set of clothes. While not strictly true, her clothes are all the same, and they're combat clothes, not everyday clothes. At most, Kou would remove her helmet, figuring that a red shrunken wolf head might be distressing to some people. Despite its tattered appearance, her armour is strong and well-maintained, and, she insists, rather comfortable, too. Beneath her helmet, Kou has a wide face, plump lips, blue eyes and a shock of white hair she keeps in a ponytail. Kou is not particularly tall — she's around 160 cm — but she's lean and tough, comparatively-looking.
  • Personality: Kou is a bit of an oddity. Out of teaching hours, training and missions, Kou tends to shut herself in her room, producing drawing after drawing, poem after poem, seeking some sort of perfection. She's not particularly fond of people and tends to be a bit distant toward her colleagues. During classes, however, she is energetic, attentive and very stubborn; she especially cares about the weaker students in her classes, making every effort to help them understand the classes and keep up with their peers. That is not to say she neglects stronger students; rather, she pushes them very hard, but her methods — sometimes harsh — show results, with Huntsmen and Huntresses who graduate from her classes being known for an aggressive, unrelenting style with a special focus on finishing missions at any costs.
  • Background: What a highborn native of Mistral is doing teaching in Shade, no-one is certain, but a few things are clear: the Tetsugakushas are an old, if small and relatively obscure family — Kou counts many thinkers, artists and artisans among her forefathers; despite veering off the expect path for her family, doing so has not caused any strife between her and her parents, as evident by her use of old weapons of a bygone era; something happened to her family — whether Grimm or something else — which made Kou particularly indisposed when it comes to talking about them; and that Kou owes Headmistress Gate quite a lot.
  • Weapons: Kou fights with two very old greatswords. Despite their tattered look, they cut deep and have seen Kou through many a mission.
    • Moye is the black, shorter greatsword. Old and unadorned, it is obviously well-maintained. It can channel earth Dust.
    • Ganjiang is the white, longer greatsword. All of its owners were left-handed. Despite its rusted look, it is actually rather sharp and a great conduit for lightning Dust.
While she usually only wields one of them, she is perfectly capable of dual-wielding them to great effect, using an acrobatic and highly aggressive fighting style while doing so.
  • Semblance: Soul of the Fume Knight has two linked effects. First, Kou has a huge store of Aura. Second, she can use a smaller-than-average amount of that Aura for defence; her Semblance forces her to use it offensively. As a result, she uses it to strengthen herself, to make herself faster and to enable her to perform gravity-defying feats of acrobatics. Her Tell is white brume; the more she uses her Semblance, the thicker and more smoke-like it becomes.
  • Non-combat abilities:
    • Kou's a good teacher. She wouldn't have stayed in Shade, otherwise.
    • Kou's a poet and painter of some talent, though she's no master.
    • Kou makes a really good pot of tea.
    • Despite an inability to even sing on-key, Kou has a keen ear for music.

LOST (NPC antagonists)

  • Name: Pandora Liebling

  • Gender: Female

  • Age: Appears to be about ten years old. Actually much, much, much older than that.

  • Species: Human

  • Appearance: A ten-year-old girl with auburn hair and tanned skin in a forest green nightgown over a pair of pants and slippers.

  • Personality: Pandora acts like a typical little girl - maybe a little immature for ten, but otherwise wide-eyed, sweet, and fond of playing adventures. Until someone defies her, and it becomes clear that Pandora is a very scary little girl. Pandora is controlling and vicious. She’s not a chessmaster - she doesn’t have enough impulse control or patience for anything close to that. But she is a bully and a sadist, and she has no regard for the feelings or lives of other people. She can be cute and charming when she wants to be - her team simultaneously finds her scary and want her to like and respect them.

  • Background:

    • The girl known as Pandora was born into a family a few hundred years ago. She had a mother, a father, and two brothers. She was not a popular child, owing to the fact that she was cruel and petty, even for a kid, but she was happy where she was. Then she overheard her parents planning to send her away for the summer, so she decided to run away - but not before setting the house on fire that night.

    • While on the run, Pandora met Saffron Sussex. Saffron’s Semblance let her transfer Aura and heal wounds. When Saffron demonstrated how her Semblance could stop or even reverse the aging process, Pandora convinced Saffron to join her, away from anyone who would control or hurt them.

    • The next few centuries were spent bringing other girls in as playmates and discarding them when they were no longer interesting to Pandora, not to mention all the others the group has kidnapped to maintain their youth.. And that has been the status quo, and it’s one Pandora very much wants to continue.

  • Weapons/Equipment: Jimmy: A wrist-mounted gauntlet with a massive hook attached that doubles as a Hand Cannon.

  • Semblance: Dust Pixies: Pandora can create small, semi-sentient balls of light that sound like tiny tinkling bells, capable of performing simple tasks on their own and more complex tasks under her direct control. By letting these balls of light carry her, she can fly.

  • Background:

    • Orchid’s childhood was a never ending parade of severe bullying at the hands of her mother and other children. The only thing that brought her joy was the discovery of her Semblance.
When she was eleven, she was befriended by Pandora and Saffron. Over the course of a year, they slowly convinced her to abandon her life, culminating with Orchid going on a rampage at her school. With nothing left, Orchid joined Pandora and Saffron on the run.

  • Weapons/Equipment: An electric whip refashioned from electrical wiring.

  • Semblance: Mind Over Matter: Telekinesis.

  • Appearance: A pale eight-year-old girl with brown hair, wearing a long-sleeved yellow sundress, two golden gauntlets, and a belt with a sheath for her dagger.

  • Personality: Saffron is a sweet, nice girl who happens to be playing along with everything Pandora wants. On some level, she knows she can’t make things right after everything she’s enabled Pandora to do - so why not keep doing it?

  • Background:

    • Saffron was the youngest of four, with two brothers and one sister. When she was eight, her mother was injured, and Saffron tried to heal her wounds. She unwittingly pulled Aura from her father to do so, killing him. Horrified at what she did, Saffron ran away from home.

    • On the run, she met fellow runaway Pandora, who was intrigued by Saffron’s Semblance. Pandora convinced Saffron to join her, away from anyone who would control or hurt them. The next few centuries were spent bringing other girls in as playmates and discarding them when they were no longer interesting to Pandora, not to mention all the others the group has kidnapped to maintain their youth.

  • Weapons/Equipment: A dagger that she can control via magnets in her sleeves. By aiming it and setting the magnets to negative polarity, she can throw the dagger with uncanny accuracy; by setting the magnets to positive polarity, she can make the dagger return to her. She can also stab people with it.

  • Semblance: Auramancy: Saffron can transfer Aura from one source to another. Most notably, this allows her to manipulate biology to a degree, which is how LOST have stayed so young for so long.

  • Name: Turquoise Little

  • Gender: Female

  • Age: Appears to be seven. Actually closer to fourteen.

  • Species: Human

  • Appearance: An seven-year-old girl with straight shoulder-length blonde hair, wearing a

  • Personality: The at-the-moment newest member of LOST, Turquoise is a perfectly average little girl who was more or less kidnapped. She isn’t entirely sure what’s going on. She just knows that Pandora scares her, and if she doesn’t do as the other girl says, something bad will happen to her.

  • Background:

    • During a school field trip, Turquoise got lost and missed the bus home. Her attempt to walk home only caused her to get even more lost, so when a girl who introduced herself as Pandora offered to help, Turquoise immediately accepted.

    • Turquoise very quickly realized that Pandora had no intention of helping her get home. Her attempt to leave didn’t end well, especially after Pandora convinced her that her family and friends didn’t want her back, and Turquoise is still stuck with LOST.

  • Semblance: Turquoise can manifest a giant version of herself or a tiny version of herself. While manifesting, her body is comatose.

  • Name: Oleander Annetts
  • Gender: Male.
  • Age: 31.
  • Species: Human.
  • Appearance: More or less. ...Just with red eyes.
  • Personality: Oleander's a bit...unusual, which is a bit of an understatement. While he's certainly polite and affable to the fellow staff and students, some would find it a little unnerving as he tends to react to most situations by taking it all in stride like he was expecting it to happen. His attitude with teaching lazy students or those talking back after being informed they gave an incorrect answer tends to result in Oleander giving a chilling smile to make most people reconsider their choice of words. On the other hand, he's happy to encouraging those who're willing to learn and can admit they make mistakes.

    • When off the clock, he's usually found in the library studying about the history of Remnant, Dust or simply enjoying a book in the shade and letting his mind wander, mulling over countless questions in the world with answers that still needed to be found.

  • Background: An orphan growing up in Vale, with his parents either long gone or simply abandoning him after being informed of his physical condition, most of his years growing up were in an Orphanage. Many of his peers found him somewhat...creepy for his deathly pale skin and frail physical frame, along with countless questions, leaving many potential adopters passed him over, eventually leaving the young child with only the few books of the orphanage.

    • After an outing to the library and being left behind in the librarian's care, the young man's fortune changed when a professor from the university discovered the bright and curious young man. Almost startled by his endless curiosity and questions, the professor eventually caved in to the barrage of questions and desire to learn by paying for Oleander's tuition.

    • Many found his ability learn and practically absorb knowledge somewhat startling, being an attentive and curious student. Eventually leading to graduating with flying colors five years ago and wondering if there were others who shared his curiosity and desire. With quite a few Academies interested in a potential historian, he turned to Shade, curious to see what it and Vacou were like first hand.

  • Weapons and Equipment: Oleander doesn't seem to carry any weapons with him. Unless you count a heavy tome which would probably leave a mark if you got hit over the head with it.
  • Semblance: Last Word. Speaking of that tome, the pages hold words written with ink laced with Dust. Tearing a page out of the book and reading the words aloud causes the Dust and his Aura to resonate, causing an effect depending what sort of Dust was used causes an effect, such as Fire creating spheres of flame or a wall of ice. The more words on the page means a bigger impact...but also burns through his limited reserves of Aura, not to mention the page he tears out is incinerated, meaning he's limited to one page for each type of Dust...lest the entire tome goes up in flames when invoking a similarly worded phrase.
  • Noncombat Abilities: Terrifyingly intelligent and capable of strategy. A chilling smile. A rather quick thinker/talker and charismatic when he chooses. He also enjoys sewing.
