At least he’s a lot more passive than Ratman. And more hygienic. And less of a boundless fountain of terrible ideas.

Speaking of Rat Man, is he responsible for 80% of the terrible things that happen in the manga like he is in this incarnation of the anime or is this an adaptational thing

Holy shit! Rat Man really jumped into the deep end of the Evil pool this week. It doesn't even matter that the end was a good one, he needs to fucking die.

At this point, I sort of feel like the gang keeps Nezumi-Otoko around as a honeypot for evildoers. Forget Mana and her contacts, there’s no better indicator of incoming supernatural nastiness than ‘hey, guys, I found a great new way to make money!’

The jab at cryptocurrency being on the level of another dumb scheme of Rat Man got a chuckle out of me, this was a pretty good episode but I really hope the refugees the corporation brought over weren't screwed over when Wanyudo was beaten because that was a really shitty move even for Rat Man.

It did rather look like the Not-De Beers execs were seconds away from being ripped apart by an angry mob of their own slave-workers when we last saw them, so I guess that’s a happy ending?

Wanyuudo did also generously provide them with a massive block of diamond for travel and living expenses...

Not quite sure if I like the dream world episode because some of the writing (like Mana and Catchick getting dumped into their dreams both of which purely revolve around Kitaro) was a bit weak but the new ending song is pretty good.

Ehh, Nekomusume was also in Mana’s fantasy as her Hot Teacher. Girl ain’t picky.

[up] Plus while Neko Musume's dream was predictable (I want to get married to Kitaro), Mana's dream was about her desire to learn more about Yokai. Kitaro and the other Yokai classmates were dressed in pre-WWII Japanese school uniforms.

Hmm, not sure I feel about this episode. The finale seemed to really go for a broken aesop

It was a sympathetic take on why someone might choose to get corrective plastic surgery. The ending was reinforcing that it was about her and her emotional wellbeing, not about one guy with a saviour complex. Being able to go around without everyone cringing at the sight of you just feels really good.

at this point, I'm wondering if the existence of yokai is an Unusually Uninteresting Sight for everyone or is it supposed to be that like human greed and avarice overtake any kind of rationality and disbelief as they want their desires to be instantly granted

Dream episode: If the cat one was the Mother's Day episode, this one was the Father's Day episode. And then there's the Traitor Shot of the drowned girl. Hmm.

Facestealer: I'm thinking the last shot Is Kirara's fantasy, given the adult form version and then the child version showing up.

Umizato: This and the next episode were clearly paid for by the Office of Tourism.

Mana's got quite the pitching arm on her—will she be going to Koshien?

You gotta love Neko Musume. She's just adorable.

Yokai school: For once Nezumi-Otoko is not the worst person in the room. And more on our Big Bad!

I find it interesting how well the yokai adapted to being good teachers.

"Memory of the Youka": tying in to Shigeru Mizuki's wartime experiences a bit, though toned way down for children.

"Yokai Apartments": Making it clear Kitaro has been around for a while (note the dates) though I'm a bit disappointed they didn't use the time-appropriate character designs.

[up] Yeah. Still, we did get current Neko-Mesume in 80s shoulder pads. [lol]

After a week off, an episode where Nezumi-Otoko is more sinned against than sinning.

Last week's episode was Mana-centric with the Aesop Evil Is Not a Toy and Nanashi being exceptionally creepy.

This week, a couple of people need to learn about informed consent.

And next week, we get an invasion plotline.

Is this an adaptation of the classic Mizuki story?

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."
