So, I'm not sure whether this should go on World Building or Trope Talk, but I figured since we;d be making cultures, World Building sounded the way to go.

Anyways, It's Exactly What It Says on the Tin, a thread where we can discuss intentionally creating a Culture Chop Suey due to either Rule of Cool or Rule of Funny (or, in some weirder cases, Rule of Creepy, Rule of Scary, Rule of Symbolism, or other "Rules of"). Feel free to post your weird Constructed World mishmash cultures, or to discuss how other people's posted ideas may work. Note: This is Just for Fun. You can make up cultures on the spot just to discuss how they'd work (just like I'm doing), although you could also post ones that you actually intend to put in a book you're writing.

Please explain which "Rule of" you're using so people can help you with your mishmash better, or, if you already have it mostly figured out, so people get an even clearer idea of why you made it that way.

Also, although I'm pretty sure this site's forum rules mostly stop this sort of thing, I feel the need to ask you guys to please avoid that "Rule of". The reasons should be pretty obvious.

Anyways, my Culture Chop Suey contribution for us to discuss is a Feudal Japan/Viking (yes, I know that vikings themselves are a bit of a Culture Chop Suey, but I chose to just write "viking" so people would get a better feel for what I was aiming for with my mishmash) with Rule of Cool as the goal.

Umm... so, I was here, I guess. If I wasn't, someone hacked my account. So, yeah.

What exactly is a Culture Chop Suey? It seems from the trope description that any culture that isn't a Fantasy Counterpart Culture is automatically a Culture Chop Suey, unless the author claims to have invented in from scratch... in which case, it's probably a Culture Chop Suey of whatever culture they have the most experience with, and generic fake medieval European settings.

Anyway, the setting of one of my main projects is mostly made up from scratch, but my influences - mostly aesthetically - are "Arabian Nights" Days, Venice, Heian Japan, and then, sort of, Buddhist imagery (yes, that does cover a whole lot of cultures). The society is sort of a Proud Scholar Race, except without the "race" part (their world is very racially mixed, pretty much all ethnicities are spread out everywhere).

The concept for most of my settings is that the presence of magic makes it so that hot-headed warriors are a lot less valuable to society than scholars, critical thinking and non-violent conflict resolution become standard, and the societies are ruled by scholar-sorcerers who have long hair, elaborate robes and jewelry, lots of exposed skin.

"f whatever culture they have the most experience with, and generic fake medieval European settings."

most of th time fantasy setting used water down settings, usually lift from games and video games an with all socials issues remove for the sake of clear gameplay.

and culture shop suey is more a culture made by diferent part of things, like in my setting were I made a culture with aztec and egyptian influence, so it have two serpent gods: life(quezatcoalt) and death(apohis) and the pantheon varie between those two.

Now I need to mix other ones but I dont know what kind I could make, China and france before the revolution is one of them, and maybe Japan and prusia is another.

Any sugestion?.
