I'm watching the second episode right now and I have no idea what's going on.
And I thought that the manga was weird...
Honestly the best summary of it that I've heard was a comment from Knowyourmeme. To paraphrase:

Reaction Image RepositoryEpisode 3. They missed the chance for an epic shitpost with the cuckoo clock skit. This fanvid shows how it should be done.
Also, is that Norio Wakamoto in the second half??
Yeah, I secretly hoped they'd actually show us the full half-hour.
But the broadcasters wouldn't have been too fond of the idea. An alternative would have been for Popuko to lose patience and smash the thing after 10 seconds or something.
And yes, the second half was Charles vi Britannia cloning Freezer to rule the world. It doesn't get scarier.
…Using baguettes as ski is almost a clever idea. They become rock hard after a few days after all.
I personally would've set it up with her starting the cuckoo clock bit at the start of the episode, and then using it as a brick joke at the very end.

Indeed, it was Ryusei Nakao and Norio Wakamoto in episode 3, or as I liked to call, "Shitposting with Frieza and Cell."
FUNIMATION IS DUBBING THIS ANIME

This account is dead. I’ve said a lot of dumb things in the past and I wish to forget them. I’m sorry if I’ve ever hurt anyone.I'm guessing it's a result of two factors:
1. The manga version is basically hitting peak popularity right now, so they're going to want to get the dub out ASAP before that passes.
2. The fact that there are basically no lip flaps means that it's probably much easier to dub the voices in.
Reaction Image RepositoryLet's do a sort of dream-casing for Pop Team Epic, for both the original version and dub (The only rule is no reusing V As that have already voiced characters in the anime adaptation) . Me first.
For the Japanese Version's future episodes:
Popuko and Pipimi:
- Kana Hanazawa and Emiri Katou (Nadeko and Mayoi) (they might as well hit big with the V As at this point)
- Takehiko Koyasu and Daisuke Ono (with this type of anime, they might as well refrence JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)
- Jun Fukihyma and Hiroshi Kamiya (Osomatsu-San)
For the dub:
Popuko and Pipimi:
- Eric Andre and Hannibal Buress (you know why)
- Jamie Marchi and Monica Rial (again, you know why)
Other Characters:
- Alexis Tipton for the Megumin lookalike in episode 2 (*cough* kurumi *cough*) (Asami Sanada voiced Kurumi in the japanese version)

If we're really doing dream casting, than the "ah, you are motherfucker" bit has to be voiced by Samuel L. Jackson. But only that one line.

Reaction Image RepositoryJapanese Teeth, about that "ah, you are motherfucker" line: I found the perfect Seiyuu to do it: Unshō Ishizuka : because no one does Gratuitous English like Old Joseph Joestar

@Mewseeker @Japanese Teeth Ever since Funimation merged with Crunchyroll, they’ve been doing simuldubs for a select few shows every season. So while your reasons may still be correct, that’s not really the main reason why.
This account is dead. I’ve said a lot of dumb things in the past and I wish to forget them. I’m sorry if I’ve ever hurt anyone.I'd actually want to see those 8-bit segments turned into an actual game. Although that game might already exist.
What was the anime parodied in the skeleton race?
As far as I can tell, a combination of Cool Runnings, Yaiba, Wacky Races, Kikaider, Top Gun and I think Initial-D.
Also, this Earth Wind and Fire parody is catchy as fuck:
Lyrics:
- We are pop team dance dance go
- For the fans and for the haters alike
- Dance dance go dance dance go
- For the fans and for the haters alike
- You haters will become fans
- Let's pop together, oh oh
- Let's all live in harmony
- Let's pop together, all night
- We love our fans
- Because they put food on our table
- We don't care about haters
- They're ridicolous, pathetic, not worth it at all
- The new manga volume is on sale now, you can buy it online
- What a waste of money!
- You won't buy it? Are you insane?
- We don't care, piss off
- Yay, the anime version is airing!
- Don't bother me, I won't watch it
- What, you're not watching it? Are you stupid?
- How can you say this?
- How long are you going to fight this hater battle?
- You haters will become fans
- Let's pop together, oh oh
- Let's all live in harmony
- Let's pop together, all night

The Southern Hell Cross at around 1:03 is a reference to the Darkness Mana Beast in Seiken Densetsu 3 .

Abandon all logic, ye who enter here.
From a yonkoma based around absurd humour and Negative Continuity, they made a reference-overdosed anime based on rapid-fire sketches that sometimes almost make some sort of sense, where the voice actors of the two protagonists constantly change, and where so the two halves of each episode are roughly identical except for subtle differences.
The first episode just left me to question the meaning of my life, but the second one actually got a few chuckles out of me.
