I've seen weirder. That is more or less exactly how the rangers summon their initial mecha in Juken Sentai Gekiranger. It does you give some flexibility in appearance as well since they don't have to be obviously mechanical.

With things like this as long as it's internally consistent it's fine. Basically, Magic A is Magic A.

Yeah, most of the mechs arent uber mechanical and the Big Bad mecha is just a massive (willingly) Cliché Storm of mecha tropes.

that remind me of elemental spirits in shamsa King who were pretty espiritual mecha(or at léast it look like that), or the susaano in Naruto, complete with the user inside the gigant controling for the inside.

I was working in a Story with Mini-Mecha s, the twist? Those Mini-Mecha s are created thought sheer psychic power, every person with a "Armor" (That is the name of the Mechas) had a different one, while some can be similar, they all are different.
How is the concept? Most of the story happens in a Dream World, so the weirdness of it is justified. The issue is that some people was able to use the Mini-Mecha s in the real world, causing some violent results (albeit, given that the mechas are just like, four or five meters tall at most, I guess that writing a mecha appearing, killing some people and then dissapearing in a small area (like, a undergroud parking lot) without being recorded can be justified, right?
