I demand this coat, and these boots, and that car.
Working for the man every night and day, no doubt.
Ah, but what's better, the Creedence Clearwater Revival original version or the cover by Ike and Tina Turner?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? The Tina cover is better
Yeah, no one can beat Tina.
Strange, I think I've seen a teaser trailer a couple of months back, and Taraji P. Henson was FANTASTIC on Person of Interest.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisThat version of "Proud Mary", by the Turners is okay if you like that kind of thing, but no-one who's heard the live version by Creedence Clearwater Revival, and thus possesses the gift of hearing, is any doubt as to whose version is the best, and that is (obviously) Creedence's, sang by the guy who wrote the song. John Fogerty, old chap, take it away:
Okay, back to the topic of the actual movie (though this little joking detour was pretty fun), if this movie gets good buzz then I might just have to figure out a way to go see it. So far no reviews have shown up to be accumulated on Rotten Tomatoes yet, dunno when the embargo on reviews ends for this film.
Still, my biggest worry is that, with this being a January release, it's not gonna be that good. January is usually when studios dump bad films made on a cheap budget that they know nobody is gonna watch but will still make back their budget anyways. Now, if this film turns out to be good (here's hoping, Taraji P. Henson is amazing), then I'll be pleasantly surprised and kind of pissed that they chose to dump it in January of all months. Like, barely anyone ever goes to the theater in January, yeah?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I dunno. Early releases can help some films. Remember Deadpool? That was released in one of the dead months of the start of the year and that made three quarters of a billion world wide. On a budget of less than seventy million dollars. And pretty much NO-ONE was expecting anywhere near that.
Deadpool was also a superhero movie, they're always do well compared to other films
New theme music also a boxI repeat, NO-ONE expected the film to do that well. Remember who its star was and how badly he'd been doing in super-hero films up to that point? Because I sure do.
And so did his character.
"Please don't make my supersuit green. Or animated."
"From the studio that inexplicably sewed his fucking mouth shut the last time."

Deadpool also came out in February. February has been doing gradually better in terms of releasing films and is losing its status as a dump month. Hell, Black Panther comes out this February and it's guaranteed to do good. Yes, Deadpool made bigger money than expected, but it was a film based off of a character with a big cult following and had a great marketing campaign.
This is a movie starring an African-American woman that's wholly original coming out in the middle of January. At best, given this has a 17 million dollar budget, it's gonna break even. It all depends on the reviews.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I halfway wonder if Sony is hoping audiences anxiously awaiting Black Panther will see Proud Mary to tide them over until February.
This looks good. But that trailer sucks. Is there a better one?
"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."Black Girl Nerds review of “Proud Mary”.
Apparently John Fogerty is not happy that the movie is named after one of his songs. He says that he wants his song to be associated with "happy stuff" and not "people killing people".
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I respect his opinion, but kinda think he missed the point? From what I can tell based on the trailers (going to see it tonight), the movie is about a hitwoman going good to protect a kid. That’s... kinda a positive message?
Frank Castle makes people safe by brutally murdering really really bad people. Does the Punisher therefore have a positive message?
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!...I haven’t seen the movie, I’m just speculating. The comparison was extreme and uncalled for.
Whew, good to know that the movie's actually good.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisHoly moly, it sounds like Sony's not just tossing the movie, they're actively trying to prevent it from getting popular.
This comes after already holding no press or critic screenings.

...what the hell? The Black Girl Nerds review was pretty positive. That doesn’t make any sense.
Its RT score is rather low, though.
22 critics, total. Normally you see about 100+ by the release date.
Coming out January 12 so I thought I’d make a thread.
Taraji P. Henson is Mary, a hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston, whose life is completely turned around when she meets a young boy whose path she crosses when a professional hit goes bad.
I’m so so excited to see this next week. I only managed to watch about one season of Empire, but Taraji was the absolute highlight of that show, and I loved her in Hidden Figures.
