Marvel was (and still is in Florida & Japan) licensed to Universal…
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Disney is not buying the Fox network, at least not in the US. It is buying the production studios. That is not the same, the Fox channels will still be with Fox (which, btw, is ALREADY using its power on a political level. The whole Murdoch group does).
And we should never ever forget that Disney's power is entirely based on the consumer liking the Disney product. If they don't like the movie Disney puts out, there are other options to choose from...not just movie-wise, there is also a lot of alternate entertainment. Which is exactly why Disney can't have a monopoly on entertainment. It is impossible to cover everything.
What worries me is that the whole streaming service thing and how it will change the media landscape. But that is not a Disney problem, that is a "the time change" problem. We already had a law suit about this over here in Germany, because the cable (cable doesn't mean pay-tv over here) channels have sued our public channels because they felt that they allowed free access to their content for too long. Here is the crux, though: Their various productions are paid by a special fee/kind of tax all Germans who own a TV have to pay. Meaning WE paid for them, they are in a sense property of the people of Germany. We should have free access to everything they produced ever. But we won't get it because someone screamed "monopoly" in the hope of halting a process which will happen anyway.
Not for long if this keeps up.
I wonder if we’ll reach a point where Disney, Universal & WB are the only game in town.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Again, not for long.
Netflix already suffered a huge blow from losing all of Disney content. It won't be able to offer all the plentiful and diverse content if there IS no plentiful and diverse content with everything shielded between the 2-3 big companies's own streaming. Not to mention, with the death of Net Neutrality, nothing stops Disney lobbyists from messing up with Netflix when it suddenly finds itself under slowdowns on every single ISP(which is like... four? In America anyway).
Ya know I read a comment on reditt that said, “ If Bayer and Montasanto owned the rights to a bunch of tight wearing heroes we all love ,THEIR merger would be getting cheers over here.”
Another thing to remember is that beyond consumer satisfaction, mergers like this cause a further shrinking in the job market and further reduce employees’ bargaining power.
No. It won’t. It’s already predicted that upwards of five thousand people will lose their jobs as they eliminate redundancy.
Yes they make their own content but it’s not enough to sustain the bloody thing on its own. Especially when so much of the most popular ones are based off of properties other studios own.

Yes, especially the people working in distribution will lose their job (though at least part of those job losses will simply a case of not hiring new people when employees leave). But take Marvel for example. There are nowadays more people working at Marvel of for Marvel production than before Disney bought the company. A merger is never a black and white matter, there are always winners and losers. The bottom line, well, we will have to wait a few years for it. But with all the streaming services which all will need content to lure in the audience, my money is on more jobs in the business, not less.

Some thoughts about how Disney might (might!!!!) deal with the movie side of things once the merger goes through...don't yell at me for not addressing the larger implication for the industry just yet, this is only part 1, there is a lot to cover first. A lot of it is speculations, but I am a little bit more detailed about the assets in question and the more prolific I Ps than most articles were.
There’s a slight error in Swanpride’s article: it mentions “both Lego movies”, but of course there are three Lego movies.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.Speaking of Fox and TV...
Once all the details are ironed out, the Fox Network will be renamed "New Fox."
Of note, 80% of New Fox's programming will be dedicated to news and live programming.

And Fantastic Four.
Continue writing our story of peace.
