[up][up]Exactly, and I think that's why they decided to put the label in the gutter.

[up]Most likely. They do that to the Marvel and Lucasfilm releases as well. They also did it to Touchstone-branded and Hollywood Pictures-branded films as well, but that was when they were called Buena Vista Pictures Distribution.

Miramax didn't get that treatment, though, since Miramax still largely operated by itself even after Disney took the studio over.

As far as I can tell Fox 2000 was kind of for Fox what Walt Disney Pictures is for Disney, just that they were making "movies for woman" more than "movies for families". You know, not necessarily aiming for the big awards (though they had a few successes), but pretty successfully catering to a specific cliental.

Since nobody has gotten fired yet, I can imagine Disney moving the whole team over to Walt Disney Pictures. Let's be honest, Walt Disney Pictures could use a creative shot in the arm so to speak. Nowadays they mostly do the Disney Live Action remakes and they weren't exactly successful when they try to step out of this narrow frame. I hope that they will be with Artemis Fowl, but, well, they could do worse than trying to cater to the female audience a little bit more…

That's all naturally just speculation.

In more layoff news, Fox's consumer products head is also out, effectively meaning Fox Consumer Products is transferring to Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.

The tragic part about this layoff? He was only on the job for about a year-and-a-half (he had been let go from DreamWorks Animation following the NBCUniversal takeover).

The good news, at least, is that 45 people out of 50 in the division will have their contracts picked up, per THR.

I’m also wondering if they would still do R-rated films like a third Deadpool sequel, etc.

[up]Disney's repeatedly stated they plan to do that again post-merger.

[up][up][up]Urgh...that sucks….

[up][up] Don't worry. The reason for the merger is that Disney wanted to get what they themselves lack and Fox was in a lot of ways a perfect fit, because those two studios overlap only slightly. It would be pretty pointless to buy Fox and then turn it into Disney 2.0

Miramax didn't get that treatment, though, since Miramax still largely operated by itself even after Disney took the studio over.

I imagine that they'll follow a similar model for other the more self contained entities, like National Geographic, as well.

So I guess upcoming Fox 2000 films will be made by Walt Disney Pictures instead?

In a twist of irony, the first Fox movie to be distributed by Disney, Breakthrough (the one about the kid in a coma after falling through ice) was made by Fox 2000...the same part of Fox that got canned just now.
A Christian drama, blurg. On the other hand, it's directed by Roxann Dawson and it doesn't appear to be one of those creepy PureFlix films where Christians are supposed to be a persecuted minority or something.

But yeah, it looks like all of the Fox 2000 films could either be made under the banner of Walt Disney Pictures (family or Christian dramas) or Fox Searchlight (low and mid-budget films).

I don’t know if this has been posted yet, but it appears that Paul Feig is probably going to take his label to Universal. There’s also more to it.

As what Obi-Wan might say regarding the potential shutdown of Fox's other divisions, I have a bad feeling about this...

[down] Thanks for catching that error. I’ve corrected it.

[up] Paul Rugg? I admit I just skimmed the article, but I only noticed it talking about Paul Feig going to Universal.

Now I remember Breakthrough was that movie trailer with Luke Cage that kept being played in front of Into The Spider-Verse along with the dog movie trailer that spoiled the entire plot.

Looks like there might be changes in Fox's current film slate now with Disney's marketing team in charge.

Disney has just announced who will lead the Fox labels, and it does give us some clue on the future of Fox Animation and Blue Sky, for now.

* Twentieth Century Fox will continue to be led by Vice Chairman, Twentieth Century Fox Film, and President, Production, Twentieth Century Fox, Emma Watts.

  • Fox Family will continue to be led by President Vanessa Morrison, reporting directly to Watts.

  • Fox Searchlight Pictures will continue to be led by Chairmen Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula.

  • Fox 2000 will continue to be led by President of Production Elizabeth Gabler, overseeing the completion of the current slate.

  • Fox Animation (including Blue Sky Studios) will continue to be led by Co-Presidents Andrea Miloro and Robert Baird.

It's just until the "completion of the current slate." They can't shut it down immediately because there are still films (or a film, I guess) that needs to be released.

Looks like they keep Blue Sky (and Fox animation, not that there is much to Fox animation at this point) though.

Given that I'm a musician in general, I'm also wondering if they would keep the famous Newman Scoring Stage at Fox Studios?

[up][up] Rupert Murdoch is keeping Fox’s studio lot at Century City, but he’s currently leasing it to Disney. Because the Newman Scoring Stage is part of that facility, Murdoch’s Fox Corporation owns it now.

More layoffs today are imminent, primarily on the TV side. As noted yesterday, 20th Television's president is out, leaving that division's future grim.

20th Century Fox Television Distribution's president Mark Kaner has just been let go, according to Variety. He had been in that position since '94. The unit is an international unit and thus not connected to 20th Television, though both are likely to be absorbed into Disney's respective units (Disney Media Distribution for 20th TV Distribution, Disney-ABC Domestic TV for 20th Television).

Distribution in general will be hit the hardest. As I said months ago, Disney really doesn't need more than one distribution arm.
