As far as I can see, that has the same problem as every other "confirmation". It's the same information repeated over and over again. Not once has anyone who has claimed to see the movie added anything significant beyond the initial spoilers.

If there's one thing I've learned it's that people will go out of their way to spoil something but they'll also go out of their way to spread fake spoilers as well.

[up]

shrugs. Guess we'll see what is true or not this weekend, at the moment I am putting the leaks at about 75/25 chance of being verified.

Just leaving a warning that if they do turn out to be true, then judging by the reaction I've seen so far, the flame wars that resulted from the prequels will look tame by comparison.

Though it could just be people are judging the scenes without understanding full context. I kind of remember similar reactions when it was revealed Luke wouldn't even speak in TFA, but people said the last scene where Rey meets Luke was perhaps the best in the whole film.

Just a few more days to go!

EDIT: I'm kinda with the guys who are like 'the EU is necessary to understand the films now instead of being complementary.' There was an article talking about how Kylo Ren's story will never be fully resolved.

"“I mean, there’s, like, bits and pieces that we started working on that kind of, I know, are answered in this one that we kind of started in The Force Awakens, that I knew [were] operating, you know, when we were doing [The Force Awakens], that I knew as time went that they kind of reveal themselves, but even of those things, there’s a lot of those things that will never be revealed and there’s no plans to,” Driver told Screen Rant when asked about how it feels to not know his character’s fate. “There are things that I think about that, for me, is what makes it kind of more fun in the playing of them, you know.”

It’s not entirely clear if Driver’s statement refers just to what will happen with the character, as the question was directed at his future, or if it also refers to his history with his family, the Knights of Ren and the New Jedi Order.

Star Wars: Episode IX, the final film in the sequel trilogy, is currently on its fourth script, so there’s a chance that Driver may not yet know exactly what happens and what’s revealed in that movie."

So these leaks just so happen to mention nothing about Poe or Finn or Rose or anything?

Honestly out of those three (if they end up being true of course), the only one that sounds actually kind of interesting to me is the second one. That could kind of work.

The other two, yeah not so much.

I believe when the original leaker was asked what Rose does, their response was "Appeal to the Chinese market."

...Yeah.

I'm just outright annoyed by all of this complaining. I'll see how it's executed in the actual movie if it turns out to be real, but I know this is just gonna divide an already toxic and fractured fandom even more.

EDIT: I'm seeing a lot of people trying to say that Anon whoever fella is right. Apparently this person successfully leaked information about Justice League so I have no idea anymore. The people on Reddit are (predictably) shouting about Rey being a Mary Sue and bashing Johnson as being a hack by trashing his previous work and claiming he's untalented. What a fandom.

Someone from MSW is also confirming the leaks, but he does state that they are case of Better Than It Sounds.

But yeah, this is easily going to be the most polarizing film in the franchise since TPM when all is said and done.

The Force Awakens was already polarizing. I already know how this is gonna go: people are gonna go either "HOLY SHIT BEST MOVIE EVER" or "BOO IT SPITS ON THE FRANCHISE FUCK YOU DISNEY", then give it ten years and people are gonna say "Wait ya know what, maybe this was actually not that bad" just like they did with the prequels.

I wonder what Episode IX's plans for Leia were :( Apparently the movie was supposed to focus on her the way VII did for Han and VIII will do with Luke.

...If those leaks are true, it's kinda Harsher in Hindsight since a movie focusing on Han had him die, a movie focusing on Luke had him die, and a movie focusing on Leia had the actress die before it could be made.

The guy who leaked Justice League was not the original leaker and when he showed a picture of his ticket, the times didn't match up to the place where he claimed to go.

Really I don't even care what happens in the movie, I just want solid information.

EDIT: Found an interview with Mark Hamill about the film! ^^ http://www.slashfilm.com/mark-hamill-interview/

"Actually going back to the hero question, is Luke still a hero? And is he the Chosen One? Who is the Chosen One? That’s a better question.

Well, that does get into spoiler territory. But the thing about Luke that I thought was special was that how unremarkable a person he was. When we first meet him he’s sort of clueless. He’s a farm boy and I think that’s the entry level character that young people will relate to. Because Han Solo’s a little intimidating. He’s kind of cynical. Carrie is royalty. Guinness is a wizard. Luke, he’s the everyman. But it says that anybody has the potential to if they do the right thing and they do things for the greater good rather than, selflessly without any element of self-aggrandizement then you, everyone has the potential to become a hero. So I think he’ll always be a hero even if he’s a fallen hero. Even if he’s a flawed hero. Or if he’s a failed as a hero. But obviously, it’s not my story anymore. The focus now is on the new protagonist played by Daisy Ridley."

The idea of basically culling the entire OT Big Three in as many movies really irritates me. That seems like the most, lazy and uncreative way to do things possible.

And if that happens AFTER you just destroyed EVERYTHING that they accomplished post-ROTJ, well I almost wish they'd never been brought back to begin with. Set your movies 200 years in the future or something and use a new cast of characters instead.

I feel like I was the only person kind of ambivalent about Rian Johnson from the start. He seems to be an over-hyped auteur wannabe, and I think a huge part of the backlash comes from that. Honestly, though, these "leaks" make me mentally prepared to hate the film, which disappoints me, because I really wanted this to be the sequel trilogy film that I could point to and hold up as Star Wars done right.

I’m also very worried about Finn. Johnson joked that having him in a coma the whole movie would be hilarious. Way to respect the character and actor >:( So I don’t trust Johnson to handle Finn right.

Honestly, this wouldn't ruin SW for me as a whole (I'll still go see the Han Solo movie, and an Obi Wan film if it's made, and read some of the comics/books/etc). But it MIGHT make me really sour of the ST specifically (because JJ Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan, and Kathleen Kennedy would also bear some blame for this, and JJ is directing Episode IX). And it MIGHT make me consider skipping Rian's spinoff trilogy. Because if I end up hating what he does with ONE SW film, then why in the heck would I want to see him make THREE more)?

Rian Johnson is sounding like the Nu Canon's Troy Denning to be honest.

People joke about ruining their childhood, but if Luke and Leia’s life work gets treated like the spoilers say it does, this movie will murder my childhood out of sheer depression. Your heroes accomplished nothing, then died! Look isn’t it fresh and great?!

I wonder if this will end up being like Thor: Ragnarok for me? Where it got really good critical reviews and most people seemed to really like it, but I ended up being far less enthusiastic about it?

Regarding Rey: This might be a bit extreme but if she's just the kid of some random nobody than I honestly don't give a shit about her anymore. Her connection to the Force is unexplained and her power level seems a bit high. I'm also going to go further and argue that it retroactively makes TFA a worse movie and wrecks the ST. So much mystery is built up about who she is. If she's just some rando it should have been confirmed right away. It also means Kylo either has to be redeemed(Yay for more OT retreads!) or the ST just casually kills off the entire Skywalker bloodline. Yeah, no. Disney would be dumb as hell to do that. Take risks if you want but that's just shitting on the fanbase.

It will probably get rave reviews no matter what any of us think, because the public Internet monoculture that follows this sort of thing usually speaks with one voice. When someone says, for example, that the focus is entirely on character, I have to look at the leaks and think, What character? Rey Random, whose family was literally just some junk dealers who sold her into servitude? Her character was propped up by the insinuation that she was a Skywalker — without that, all she has is Daisy Ridley's insipid acting and a personality entirely devoid of anything besides bog-standard Action Girl fare. Her main advantage is novelty, nothing more. Kylo Ren, who is less a lost soul and more like Jedi Damien, who charts an entirely undeserved and ridiculous rise to power that is entirely inconsistent with the loony one-note thug from TFA, and completely idiotic in its own terms because, honestly, what does this overgrown emo brat know about rulership? Snoke, who is a total chump and gets unceremoniously killed without anyone delving into who he is and what he wants besides a doomsday for the NR? A First Order that charts a rapid rise to power having all the advantages and doing none of the statebuilding and struggle of the Empire — they're quite literally canned Nazis — against a Galaxy tailor-made to be defeated by them in one stroke with no effort? Finn, who has an irrelevant sidequest? Poe, who stages a baffling, idiotic, and traitorous insurrection against Resistance leadership? This film sounds like a total mess.

Characters aren't at the forefront here. Filmmaking and film construction, perhaps, and Rian Johnson's cinematic ejaculate, but little else.

My question is, if her parents are just random jerks, why not tell us that early on in TFA? JJ made it seem like there was some big reason why he couldn't do that, why EVERYTHING about them needed to be secretive.

But if this is all that there is, it would change nothing to tell us that right away.
