It's absolutely how you win wars.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."I don't think its how you win Star Wars

And where was that "blood and iron" on Crait? Hiding in the Outer Rim, because they thought the First Order was unstoppable and that all hope was lost.
If only a legendary hero had returned to perform an impossible feat of defiance and rekindle the spark of hope in the galaxy...
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."In the grand scheme of things why the FUCK didn't the resistance long evacuated their home base for another star system by the end of Force Awakens?
Also, I don't know how you can overestimate a weapon that can destroy our whole solar system with one shot?

Place your past in a book burn the pages let them cook.Oh hey look, the same militarist stuff that the mods have repeatedly said to quit doing.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? Its how Sidious won the Clone Wars & defeated the Jedi.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."And how was Sidious beaten?
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."I'm locking this topic for a bit. I don't know why people can't discuss this film civilly. I certainly tried a little while back, but left because it was pointless arguing with people who just want to shit on the film. Well, here we are and I see my point was completely validated. So, take some time to cool down.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"They were in the process.
Evacuation takes time if you're trying to save as much material as you can. That it was ultimately futile was more about not knowing about hyperspace tracking. If they knew about that they'd have left their breakfast on the table and be gone as soon as they could.

I think you might actually be overestimating how much the First Order was dependent on Starkiller Base. After all, Snoke communicated with Kylo and Hux exclusively via hologram - it was pretty obvious that the First Order had substantially more to them than that, unless you think the Supreme Leader was sitting out in the middle of nowhere.
Perhaps it would have been more strategically sound to hold back for a bit, but if the sole thing standing between you and galactic domination is a plucky band of rebels who just won a major victory, I think it makes sense to want to wipe them out before they can rally more people to their side, especially if you're viewing this from the perspective of a bunch of evil megalomaniacs. Why can't this just be a strategic blunder on the characters' part, rather than bad writing?
