I did, got the bell and tried it - I planned on doing the section in the past after clearing the first zone. Dunno if there's something else to do with her in the meantime.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Spoilers, but that’s pretty much it for the old lady and her son. After you’ve cleared the boss in Hirata, you can come back to find them dead where the old lady is.
As for the Great Serpent, you won’t be meeting it again for a long while yet.

Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets. Finally got every achievement in the game.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."Oof, I almost thought I didn't liked the game. But no, it's just that the section in the past and the comeback to ashina reservoir suck - Ashina's castle was a fantastic level.
I think I'm also finally gitting gud at the game, and it makes the game so much more fun. Every mikiri counter or the jump counter I pull off before my brain has finished to process what's happening because muscle memory is such a joy, it makes up for the screams of anger I let out when something stupid happens like a stealth kill that refuses to proc or a guard that doesn't block the mooks attacks.
Genichiro is such a cool fight. That's almost ludwig from bloodborne quality tier.
If the game can just keep it up like this, I'm platining that game no questions asked.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Just finished my fourth playthrough of the game. This time I managed to defeat the Final Boss in one try, even if the fight forced me to use pretty much every healing item I had.
I heard that the Demon of Hatred fight has additional dialogue that only plays when certain conditions are met, where Wolf figures out that the Demon is the Sculptor. Whelp, looks like Playthrough #5 is happening for sure in the future...
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."Yay, finally got it, started playing it this morning. Currently up to the Shinobi Hunter and just beat the Chained Ogre. I've no doubt that not going in blind helped a lot to speed up this part of the game, but I won't have that advantage for much longer.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."After putting it off for a couple days in the expectation of an extremely hard fight, I just made a go at LMAO 2Ape and killed them second try. The mate went down in I think less than 30 seconds. That Lilac Umbrella is a godsend.
"...always on the verge of death, yet repeatedly baffling Christendom by continuing to live."Aaaand just killed the Twin Headless at Fountainhead Palace. Probably my favorite enemy design in the game, but my least favorite enemy to actually fight (aside from the Shichimen Warrior perhaps). At least they're all dead now. BTW, if you kill the phantom Headless first and then leave, does it respawn?
"...always on the verge of death, yet repeatedly baffling Christendom by continuing to live."
From what I can tell, it does not. It's preferable to kill the spectral version first, because it has less HP but seems to hit just as hard as the actual Headless (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."
That's what I ended up doing, since taking them both out didn't seem worth the trouble. I also discovered that hiding behind the fish skeleton next to the corporeal one nullifies the vast majority of their ranged attacks. Once I figured out the right windows to pop out of cover and strike, they went down easy. Way of the shinobi

"...always on the verge of death, yet repeatedly baffling Christendom by continuing to live."Just beat the Divine Dragon. Holy shit, that was fucking amazing. Its easily the best giant fight From Soft has ever done. If DLC for this game manages to make something just as amazing but backs it up witha bit more difficulty, I will salute them.
Also, anyone know where to find the final fragment of the dancer mask, as well as how to kill the Giant Karp?
I want to do both before I proceed to the final fight of the immortal severance route.

For the Giant Carp, you need to talk to at least one of the Pot Nobles enough times (and probably buy some things too) until they make a request. Accepting the request will have them give you Truly Precious Bait and ask that you feed it to the carp. Do so, then travel to the Guardian Ape's watering hole.
As for the mask, which fragment are you missing? If you're missing the left fragment, you can buy it from Pot Noble Koremori in the Fountainhead Palace for 12 scales. If you're missing the dragon fragment, you can buy it from the Memorial Mob at the Abandoned Dungeon entrance for 5000 sen.

"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."The Pot Noble Korimori one in Fountainhead.
Also, anyone else get a feeling that the Fish people denizens of Fountainhead might be connected to the Fish people from Bloodborne?
It may be a FromSoftware mythology gag, but still, you can't help but wonder.....

In a somewhat hidden area of Fountainhead Palace you can find another Pot Noble. He sells the last Mask Fragment for 12 scales and will give you the Truly Precious Bait to poison the giant carp with. To get to him, you have to start at the Palace Grounds Idol, head out the front door, and then look for a hidden grapple point past the waterfall. You might have to jump off the ledge for the icon to appear.
I always got the feeling that the Fountainhead Palace people are carp people because of that Japanese legend where carps that swim up waterfalls become dragons. Considering that Fountainhead Palace leads to the Divine Dragon...
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."So I have my plans for Sekro laid out.
I complete 4 playthroughs with all 4 endings.
Then 4 more playthroughs to all the endings, but with Kuros’s charm being given away for the the whole thing.
Then when DLC comes out, I’ll do it all over again on a new save, plus with the DLC.

Watch SymphogearWelp, made a lot of progress.
got the blade of death, killed the ape for good (along with its mate), got the two serpents hearts, reached the corrupted monk in mibu village, killed the first headless and the terror warrior where the ape was...
So, if memory serves, killing the monk with all the stuff I've done prompts the ashina castle phase 2 bit to happen, right ? I guess I'm gonna take some time off to farm some money and upgrade mats before that then. What's a good farming spot for money that I can access that's also decently good at looting scrap magnetite ?
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."What triggers Ashina Castle phase 2 is: retrieving the white flower, the stone, and the Mortal Blade. Killing the bosses, but not touching the items, will keep Ashina Castle in Phase 1.
Phase 3 is triggered by defeating the Divine Dragon and getting its Gracious Gift of Tears.

Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets.Only given it a few tries so far, but the battle with Owl at Ashina Castle feels like it might be frustrating. I have yet to identify any major opportunities the battle gives you to make progress. I kinda want to try aerial deathblows, but either his jumps are too fast to react to, or I need to learn to predict them.
Oh, and I have six skill points and no idea what want/should spend them on.

Old Owl has a certain number of moves that leave him wide open, so long as you stick close to him. When he throws the balloon that prevents healing, and when you step dodge his overhead jump attack are the two main attacks of his that leave him wide open to some Vitality damage. If he only throws one shuriken, be prepared to use either the jump counter or High Monk to avoid his sweep. His posture bar recovers really quickly, so your best bet is to be aggressive, or slowly chip away at his Vitality until he passes one or two recovery penalties. If you can time it right, step dodging towards him and to his left when he throws the firecrackers will clear you of the stun and his sweep, leaving him open to a counterattack. He, like Sekiro, lacks poise, so he's actually easily interrupted with regular attacks. The second phase is pretty much more of the same, though he replaces the kick-to-shuriken move with a spray of poison.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets. Thanks, but I actually just managed to get him :P I had a sudden increase in git gud right after my previous post. And yeah, mostly I chipped away at his vitality using the openings provided by the big leap and his balloon. I could have got it done faster and better if I'd been able to break the reflexive habit of dodging the balloon, but I was only able to reliably predict it, rather than simply react to it, after he did a certain lunging attack (I never did see him do any sweep attack, and he only used the firecrackers on me about three times across all attempts). I was also using shurikens on him during his big leap, which I hoped would interrupt it, but still, they dealt damage, and I often found myself out of its range anyway, leaving him open for a hit when he landed (unlike your recommendation, I found myself generally keeping my distance and waiting for openings I knew I could exploit).
Update: Ugh, the fucking Corrupted Monk again? This game needs to fuck off re-using bosses. That and the arbitrary and harsh death punishment system are its only two major flaws that I can see, but they're pretty big ones in my eyes.
Anyway, I hated that boss enough the first time around, and now it's back with more HP and more bullshit. To be fair, part of it is my problem; the first time around I actually got kinda lucky defeating it note , so I never actually got good at the fight, and I cannot stop misreading its perilous attacks. I almost always react with the wrong thing, and I always know I've done the wrong thing in the moment between my reaction and the attack actually connecting. No idea what to do about its shadow stuff in phase two though, other than leaping around in the trees to stay out of the way, which results in me falling into the chasm about one time in three, or just landing on the bridge somehow and getting whacked.
At least this time its posture doesn't recover ludicrously fast.

Have you tried speaking to the old lady that offers you the bell?
Eh, good enough.
