You know how Freaky Friday has two feature film adaptations? Well, now it is going to have two TV movie adaptations! One was made in 1995 for The Wonderful World Of Disney on ABC and the other will premiere next year on Disney Channel. This time, it's a musical! ...I should probably explain the background for this.

Not all Disney produced stage musicals are expected to come to Broadway. Freaky Friday is such an example of this. It premiered last year in Arlington and played this year at the The La Jolla Playhouse. The songwriters, Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, previously worked on Next To Normal and If/Then. The book was written by Bridget Carpenter, who produced and wrote television shows like Dead Like Me, Friday Night Lights, Parenthood and helped bring Stephen King's 11.22.63 to TV. I can definitely see regional and community theaters doing productions of this (MTI is licensing it next year). They released the soundtrack if you would like to hear the songs.

Anyway, TV movie. Along with the song and book writers returning, the actress who played the mother on stage, Heidi Blickenstaff, is reprising her role. The actress playing the daughter will be Cozi Zuehlsdorff. The director is Steve Carr, whose works includes Daddy Day Care and Paul Blart Mall Cop. The most interesting name in the crew is executive producer Thomas Schumacher, who is in charge of Disney's theatrical productions.
