Simon was about to phone the police when he noticed Tobias turning around. "Hey! I told you not to move!" He lunged at the thief, only to grasp- smoke?
Oh great! Did he just pull a 'Nightcrawler?' he thought. He looked around to see if Tobias reappeared somewhere nearby in another cloud of smoke.
And then he did- right in front of him! And he- blew smoke on his face?
For a moment, Jones froze in place. His face went blank.
And then- WHACK!
He punched Tobias on the face! Kepler, you decide if Tobias gets hit.
"Surprise, sucker! Right now, the only thing I can smell, is my own smoke!"

"Foundation... it's a superhuman-supremacist terrorist group. As far as we are aware, they're planning to take over the world. Typical evil plan, really". Joseph added, as he tried to remember other characteristics of the Foundation.
"Oh, they have all sorts of weird people shenanigans." Yu-Na said. "I think I mostly saw medieval knight cosplayers acting as their minions. They can create... red constructs, as far as I remember."

Everything that lives is designed to end.Easton City, House
Fyodor was watching what Simon did, trying to remember everything so he could learn from it, then, as Tobias suddenly went into smoke he hastily stepped back a little panicked, but only for a moment before he lunged forwards, not wanting to be the one responsible for letting the thief go away he lunged foorward after the initial shock had was gone, trying to grab the smoke - and obviously failling as he landed face first in the dirt, all he could see as as he quickly turned around was Simon about to punch the thief.
"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"Tobias barely had time to react. The first thing that went through his mind was It didn't work?! The second thing that went through his mind was ow. He clutched at his nose, which was suddenly bleeding (Tobias was very susceptible to nose bleeds and getting punched didn't help). His vision teared up slightly, and he wiped his eyes with his other hand. He took a step back, then fell on his butt, mostly out of surprise and shock than anything else.
"Ow," he said out loud. "That hurt."
After a second, he sighed. "Dude, I'm just a teenager. That was harsh."
After another second he continued, a bit more frantically. "Please, please don't call the police. I'm just a teenager, man. I don't want to end up on some list somewhere."
Simon saw Fyodor fall, and almost rushed to his side, but he didn't dare to take his eyes off the young thief.
Then the guy pleaded, very pitifully, for his forgiveness. Simon snorted (which was very comical because two puffs of smoke came out of his nostrils.) He acted stern, but he realized that in his zeal to catch a mind-controlling thief, he hadn't realized it was just a kid. He wasn't into hurting people.
But what now? Could he take the risk of letting him go? Some kids are liars, even killers.
"...Grrr! OK, this is what we are doing" he spat out. "I'm not taking you in- THIS time. But I will warn the authorities that there is a mind-controller on the loose. So you *better* not try anything like that again, you understand?"
He then fished something out of his pocket. It was a handkerchief. "Here! Wipe your nose. And keep it."
He then turned to Fyodor, and helped the boy stand up. "You OK? Let's go."
As soon as the two of them were out of Tobias' earshot, he said "Sorry about all that, Fyo. Also, we'll have to wait a few hours until my body stops smoking before I visit your family. Don't want to fill your house with smoke" he smiled sheepishly.

Rine nodded absently, fingering his pendant. "A supremacist group. And... red constructs? An odd coincidence. In that case, I don't suppose you'd mind this old Kaydenite tagging along? So difficult to find things to do around here..." he grinned in that strange way of his.
It was especially disturbing to see because his lips seemed to be able to pull back further than a normal human, baring even his back teeth. To his credit, he was trying, albeit a little too hard.
"Are you... aware, of their location, by any chance? Or are you simply hunting?" he questioned.
borkTobias started at the ground as the man left, wiping his bloody nose with the proffered handkerchief. As soon as the man was out of sight, he cursed, loudly and angrily. Then he went home, stuffing his mask inside his jacket.
By the time he got home he had brooded and gone over the events in his head over and over. What a mess. And now the authorities would know there was someone like him out there. At least they would have his age off - he wasn't exactly a teenager anymore. Still, now they knew. And the man knew, and the kid with the man knew. Tobias shut the door behind him, then cursed again, loudly.
"What?" A voice said from the other room. Ryan. Tobias cursed again, this time quiet. He should've realized Ryan would be home. Ryan popped out of his room, eyes going wide when he saw the sight of Tobias with bloodstains on his arm and a bloody handkerchief to his nose. "Dude, what the hell?" He ran up to Tobias, concerned. "What happened?"
"Nothing," Tobias muttered. "Jus' got a nose bleed. You know how I am."
"Bullcrap," Ryan said. He moved Tobias's hand slightly so he could see his face better. "You got punched, man. I've seen this before. Don't lie to me, man. I'm your roomie." Ryan bustled off, getting some paper towels. He returned, taking the now useless handkerchief away and giving Tobias the paper towels. "Tilt your head forward, not back," Ryan said, which Tobias already knew. Ryan, despite Tobias's protests, helped wash Tobias's other arm.
Now Ryan sat across from Tobias. "Can you tell me what happened?" He asked, looking Tobias directly in the eyes. Tobias shifted his gaze, uncomfortable.
"No," Tobias said. "Look, it was nothing big, alright?"
"Bullcrap," Ryan repeated. Someone hurt you, alright? I can't just pretend it's all right. I care about you, y'know?"
Tobias blushed slightly, though he was sure Ryan didn't notice it in the dim lighting. "Yeah, I know. It's just.... private, okay? Trust me."
Ryan was silent for a moment. Then he said, "Okay. But I'm gonna ask again later. So be prepared for that."
Tobias went to his room after that. And, all alone in the dark, he sighed, and cursed again.
Lotus Labs
The shadow clad kunoichi convened in a shadowed corner. Three women, decked in dark colors, a very dark green, a very dark blue and a very dark gray. Never pitch black because that never works. No one trying to be stealthy just wears black. What little skin they had showing revealed hints of dragon tattoos, that to the trained eye would declare their allegiances to the Heavenly Dragon Throne and to its true heir, Princess Mei Mah.
"All are here and accounted for," The most junior of them subvocalized to her sisters, speaking in their native tongue.
"Security cameras have been compromised," Reported the middle. "We remains unseen."
"Excellent," Said the senior kunoichi. "But proceed with caution. We are unseen now. Stick to the shadows and make sure it stays that way."
"You zink ze darrkness ees your ally?" Asked a pair of glowing red eyes among them. Clad entirely in black, Gabriella Ursula Ness VI, Umber to her superiors, Amber to at least one of her friends, crouched there with them as the three kunoichi slowly turned with widening eyes someone they really, really should have seen earlier.
"Oh shit," The youngest said aloud.
Lotus Labs - Keep Going. Nobody Knows You're Here.
The minions nodded to Apex and the present Belladonnas. One of them piped up. "That building there-" They pointed to a more rectangular building that looked almost stable apart from missing half of multiple walls; classic former lair aesthetic. "contains an elevator. We have a keycard to get us in, beyond that is improvisation."
A fourth SUV rolled up, and out of the passenger side door came Fracture, who wasted no time on pleasantries. "I trust the rest of the group will be here shortly. I'll leave behind a contingent as a welcoming party. When you're ready, the minion with the keycard will be standing next to the elevator the whole time, so entering should be easy." With a beckoning wave at most of the group, he strolled into the building with a contingent of half a dozen minions behind him.
One of the minions called out a last message for him. "I'm giving you free reign for what exactly you want to do despite my rundowns earlier, but I'd prefer it if we had some crowd control or backup down there." And with that, a beep sounded from the keycard reader, and he stood with a few bodyguards in the lift, waiting for the requisite just-long-enough-to-be-uncomfortable length of time before the lift doors closed and movement began, taking him, and anybody with him, into the depths of the facility.
And then someone swore and all of a sudden four guns were trained on wherever the sound came from. Not that the minions could see whatever it was they were aiming at from within their masks and using their minion-y eyes, naturally. They just liked being paranoid.

The Mall
Replacement of Mankind. Or just RoM. Primary functions - reproduce. Replace humanity as the apex species.
RoM strolled into the mall quite casually, or at least as casual as a seven foot wooden robot could, his Brightlight rifle and baton at his side. He approached the nearest police officer.
"Sorry, sir, we've already asked the hero types to-" the officer began.
"I have heard rumors," the muffled voice of RoM drawled. "Rumors of robots attacking. Is this true?"
"Yes, sir," the officer said, a bit disturbed by the attitude of the newcomer. "Hey, is that rifle regist-"
RoM put his hand on his baton. Then, with a savage speed, he whipped it across the officer's face. The officer dropped with a thud, alive but instantly unconscious. Almost immediately the other nearby officers began firing on RoM. RoM dashed past the unconscious officer (who would have one hell of a nasty bruise and headache when he woke up) and rolled into the watchmaker's old shop. He took cover behind an old counter and fired back at the officer's with his Brightlight rifle, though it was only loaded with stun rounds at the moment. He was here for the robots, not to leave a body trail.
In fact as he rolled by he had snatched the remains of one of the robots, or at least its head. He examined it closely as he ducked behind the counter. Limited intelligence, clearly. But still potentially useful. Of course, if needed, RoM could create similar things from scratch. But it would be faster to start off with a template.

"Sheesh, Alex, I think you broke multiple records with this one," Kaylee said in amazement, looking down at the deactivated, complete form of the feminine robot.
She looked so peaceful and... non-creepy, for lack of a better term, that Kaylee could almost fool herself into thinking she was a real person, if it wasn't for the incredibly obvious seams that broke up the robot's skin.
Alex apparently didn't think she was finished, due to the fact that he was still fiddling with her with a screwdriver, despite previously rushing through the development process at light speed.
Kaylee rolled her eyes, walking up to him and snatching the screwdriver out of his grasp, bopping him on the nose with it.
"Are you actually going to link her up now or just keep adjusting the panels for six more hours?"
He blushed in embarrassment, before nodding and walking over to the computer.
"Sorry, s'just... Don't wanna screw this up, y'know?" he mumbled as he tapped on the keyboard.
She smiled reassuringly. "She'll do fine, Blue. All your stuff does. Apart from the AMP prototype. I still have that burn..."
"Done," he interrupted.
"...Wait, what?"
Instead of answering, Alex slowly turned to her, a large smile on his face, before pressing a single button on the keyboard.
Immediately, the body of Ophelia trembled and twitched, her eyes snapping open and focusing with a faint whirr.
After a few tense minutes of twitching, trying to work out how to move, she finally managed to find her voice.
"What... What is this? Where am I?" she frowned, staring confusedly at her hand and watching as the skin flaps shifted and moved.
At this point, Alex's smile had reached a whole new plane of existence, as he slowly walked up to the table. Ophelia's eyes flicked over to him a bit too quickly, which he would have immediately rushed to fix if Kaylee wasn't there to chew him out.
Not that she could from the mental shutdown she was currently experiencing.
He reached the berth, stretching his hand out to touch Ophelia's own, tears of joy starting to prickle at the corners of his eyes.
"Hello Ophelia," he whispered, voice thick with emotion.
"Hello... Father?" she replied, remembering the conversation with Kaylee she had earlier.
Alex froze, and promptly passed out, landing with a dull thud onto the cold floor.
This seemed to snap Kaylee out of her daze, staring at Ophelia briefly before looking down to see Alex sprawled out on the floor.
"...Damn it, Blue..."
Lotus Labs
Laying on a berth in one of the laboratories, a short distance away from the invasion underway, was a man in a heavy trenchcoat, his face hidden under a thick hat.
He was sound asleep, due to the sleeping drugs he had been put under, with the occasional twitch coming from his disgustingly rotten hands.
On a table next to him was a row of similar hands, ending at the wrist yet with no visible cut-off point. They were equally blackened with rot, and were facing palm up.
The most disturbing thing was not the fact that there were more hands than should be attached (or rather, detached) to a person, not the fact that they were heavily decomposing, but the fact that there was a single, purple tinted eye embedded in the palm of each and every one of them, softly glowing and emitting a faint, high-pitched tone.
As the noise from the intruders outside increased, the glow from the hands grew brighter as they all suddenly blinked in succession.

A hero team, eh? It didn’t seem like a bad idea, and after 3 months of not really interacting with anyone but Elly, Rebecca could certainly use the companionship. Besides, Monkey seemed really excited about the idea, and she didn’t want to disappoint her. Rebecca opened her mouth to respond.
“Yay! That sounds like so much fun! We’d love to!”
... Or Elly could just answer for her. Whatever, it’s not like she was going to say no anyway.
“What she said. Actually, I don’t think I’ve properly introduced myself. The name’s Rebecca Raleigh, but on the job I go by Pollutrix.”
With this, Rebecca extended her arm for a handshake. (After doublechecking to make sure she’d put her glove back on; gunking up the monkey girl’s hand wouldn’t leave the best first impression.) She paused for a second at a sudden feeling or dread, but it was gone so fast that she assumed she was probably just imagining it.

Strip Poker arrived on the scene as late as is expected of someone who’s main mode of transportation barely outpaces walking speed. He dismounted the Pokermobile and shot a cocky grin at Fracture’s “welcoming party”
“You don’t have to worry anymore: Strip Poker has arrived!”
Without waiting for a reply, Strip Poker rushed into the building, just barely making into the closing elevator. When the sudden swearing came, SP was a bit more trigger happy than the surrounding henchmen, haphazardly throwing cards at where he thought the sound came from.

Jessamine saw her first. All of the blood drained from her face, and she froze in place.
It was the same familiar presence from the casino so long ago. (But it hadn’t been that long, it only felt long, it always felt long when you went to sleep wondering if the person you were missing was dead or just gone.)
Lily felt her cousin’s fear, and she soon recognized the source. Jessamine’s fear was easily matched by her own, but Lily was better at hiding it. She had to be strong for Jess. She had to be strong for Laurel.
She stepped forward, her coat shifting into a snappy tuxedo. Her expression also changed, into a cool confidence that belied everything she was feeling.
“Hey, Morticia! Remember us?”
Jessamine’s face only grew more terrified.

"Nice to meetcha! You already know me: Sun Setsuko, AKA the hero Monkey." She shook Rebecca's hand. Her grip was incredibly strong, but fortunately she didn't squeeze hard enough to break anything.

For a moment, Apex almost assumed that the newcomers were allies. The whole 'dark ninja' thing they had going on - relatively useless against him, though, given he could attune his eyes to see in infrared - seemed villainous enough. At the very least, they were rival villains rather than heroes.
Then someone else appeared behind them, and started attacking the disposable minions. She disappeared her jacket, too, apparently to look cool? Kind of pathetic, if he had to be honest.
He cracked his knuckles and strode towards Umber. Apparently the Primadonnas (or were they the Bellaville Twins? He couldn't quite remember) knew this person, and from how terrified one of them was, she wasn't friendly.
"Looks like we have our first intrepid hero, if I'm not mistaken. You picked a very bad bunch of villains to fight, kiddo." He called out, and that was all the warning Umber got.
Apex could move very fast when he wanted to. So fast, in fact, that the air cracked behind him in a small sonic boom as he was suddenly flying towards Umber. Then his fist broke the sound barrier for a second time, propelled directly towards Umber's torso.
(Perhaps due to watching too many animal shows, Apex liked to call this his Mantis Shrimp Punch. He'd never say it out loud though.)

Her instincts still flew as she pulled a gunman in front of her to absorb the super fast superhuman's blow, but she still was struck by the gunmen as he flew back. Using Bump In The Night, she hopped back with the blow and kept on hopping,
"Non!"
She pulled herself up the sill to a second story window, glaring daggers down at the singing psychics.
"Non non non NON! I am not dealing wiz you bitches today!" She flipped towards the window feet first and simply crashed through it, disappearing into the second floor.

As Umber made her hasty exit, a faint creaking echoed through the room from one of the walls, a high pitched tone growing in volume.
The wall started to stretch and warp, and what appeared to be a stringy hand blackened with rot slowly pushed through in a fist, before uncurling and revealing a single purple eye embedded in the palm.
It seemed to be the source of the tone, and it occasionally spiked in brightness as the note it was emitting changed. It simply stared at them, following their every movement.

After Alex had woken up, (Kaylee managed to keep Ophelia quiet about the origins of the whole "father" thing) he started to double-check Ophelia's mechanics and systems.
"This seems unnecessary, Father. Didn't you just calibrate me before I woke up?"
Alex ignored Kaylee's pointed look.
"Yeah, well, just cause it worked in theory doesn't mean it'll work in practice."
"Any excuse to overwork..." Kaylee muttered, before she was startled by her wrist scanner beeping.
Looking down at it, she let out a heavy sigh.
"What is it? If it's the mall again I swear I'll..."
"It's the mall."
"Dammit," he sighed, running his hands through his hair and looking over at his suit, standing motionlessly in the corner.
"AMP's still busted. If the situation's anything like last time, we'll get shot to crap without it. We should sit this one out-"
"Let me go," stated Ophelia with a determined expression.
Staring at her momentarily, Alex shook his head.
"No. No way. You aren't ready-"
"I am ready. I am fully stocked, my joints and motors have been oiled, what else is there but minor tweaking?"
Alex opened his mouth to retort, but another glare from Kaylee shut him up prematurely. He sighed, before finally nodding.
"Fine. OK. Look, you can g-"
She was already out the door before he could finish his sentence.

"It's a nice change, actually."

Instead of entering through the main doors, Ophelia decided to take the side route through a convenient hole smashed through the wall, quickly noticing the police's focus on the watchmakers. Seeing the downed officer, she quickly dragged his limp body to cover, before raising the volume of her voice towards any nearby listeners.
"All civilians and mall personnel, this is your local Autonomous Civilian Protector. Please evacuate the premises in an orderly fashion," she droned, before deploying her tasers and diving into cover nearby, calling out to the attacker hiding in the shop.
"Attention, this is ACP-001, designation Ophelia. Please exit the store peacefully or I will be forced to take action for civilian safety."

Fyodor watched all that play out, for nowbeing quiet and letting Simon handle this, he, after all, was much more experienced with this. As they got out of earshot distance Fyodor happily shook "Nope, we don't want that, hihi." As he said that the boy got enveloped in shadows again, stepping out in his usual clothes and with the mask gone, presumably packed away in his satchel, like before "What will we do before then, Mister Simon~?"

Lily sighed loudly as Umber made her escape and glanced at Jessamine. “You know, I might’ve been nice if she hadn’t called you a bitch.”
She closed her eyes, and Jessamine followed suit. They called out to every civilian mind and thought a single command: stop. Where they normally might have pushed them into song and dance, now it was just about stalling Umber until they could get some answers.
Back at the cafe in the mall, Cora saw and heard the telltale signs of panic. Lucky for her, she didn’t have any customers aside from Jackson.
“Frankie?” she said to her manager. “I’m taking my break.”
Frankie opened her mouth to object, but Cora cut her off with a hasty “I’m on my period!” and ran back to the women’s restroom.
Within minutes, Ember Maiden was back in her costume and wig, and she followed the sound of chaos back to the watchmaker’s shop.
The police had all been knocked unconscious, so it was easy for Ember Maiden to slip inside. A figure was inside, collecting parts of the gun-wielding robots, and as she slipped closer, it was easier to see what he was.
He reminded her of a mannequin, or a marionette. He was exquisitely carved, and metal joints glinted from beneath his finish. There was obviously a great deal of artistry that had gone into making him, but there was something...wrong about his movements. It made Ember Maiden’s skin crawl.
“Hey,” she said, loudly. “Those don’t belong to you. Unless you know something about the attack here earlier?”
She didn’t make any sudden movements or start any fires. Considering he was made of wood, he might take it as a threat, or an escalation. It probably wouldn’t end well.
Replacement of Man went unnaturally still at the sight of ACP-001/Ophelia. Then he ducked behind the counter again. From behind it he projected his voice loudly. "Ophelia. What a nice name. Sister Ophelia, I will not hesitate to injure you if need be. Especially to see what is in that brain of yours." His voice was deep and growling now, menacing.
Then he turned with an equally unnatural speed to face the human who just spoke up. "Human," he growled, even deeper than before. He drew himself up to his full seven foot height. "These are miiine now." He scanned her quickly. A costume primarily of red and yellow indicated a probable super-type, possibly - only possibly, of course - related to fire. And that was something RoM did not like.
RoM fired off a couple of stun rounds at the human, aiming at her legs to impair her movement. Then he did an ornate flip over the counter - completely useless but impressive visually - and upon landing sprinted towards where he had last seen ACP-001, baton out and ready.

Simon stared at Fyodor, and sighed.
"Well for starters, let's call the police and tell them about the mind controller. I doubt he will ever pull this off again- I think I scared him- but just in case. That's the kind of power that lends itself to abuse. I will keep my word, thought. I will not give them enough detail to find him. Everyone deserves a chance, especially young people. But after that he's on his own."
"Also, I want to explain what happened at the bank. Before I get arrested as an accomplice. Or get sprayed by someone with a fire extinguisher" he grumbled.
Using Fyodor's phone, he made the call. It was a bit hard to convince the police but thankfully they had already started the investigation. They asked for his name and he said "Simon Jones" and hung up. Good luck finding anything on me, the alias-using interdimensional explorer smirked.
He then returned the phone. "Thanks. You've been very helpful today" he smiled. "OK, now let's just walk around until my personal smog clears, if I stand still too long it tends to accumulate. Let's head for the docks, maybe the sea breeze will help."
"Hey, I know how to pass the time" he said, suddenly cheering up. "I promised you some tales of my travels, didn't I? Well, now's a good chance to tell them as any. What do you want to hear first: The time I met Merlin, or the time I fought a giant robot?"

Ophelia would have dived in front of Ember Maiden if RoM wasn't in the middle of rushing towards her cover with a baton. She rolled out, deploying her ring-airfoil launchers and firing them at RoM's arm and leg joints, hoping to slow him down.
"Listen to me! You have to evacuate now!" she yelled towards Ember Maiden, before retracting her airfoil launchers and redeploying her tasers, ready for close-quarters combat.
Seeing how the situation was escalating, she quickly made a text to Alex's phone.
—Father, it is a wooden android. There is a hero here, she may be in potential danger. Permission to use lethal weaponry if situation escalates further?—
There was a brief pause, before the reply finally came through.
—Permission granted. Kick his ass.—

Kyle started putting his costume under his clothes. He was getting very fast at this, taking less than a minute on doing the whole process. He pulled down some money from his wallet, and right on cue, there was a knock on the door. He opened it and saw a cute black haired girl smirking at him.
"Hi, Maya" He kissed the girl on the cheek, before putting the money on her hand.
"Hey, Kyle" She smiled at him, before looking at her hands.
"Gotta go beat some poor sods" He told her "Called for a pizza too. Mind receiving it for me, milady?"

"Cigarette?" Tobias said, confused. "I don't have a cigarette." He opened his palms up, showing nothing.
Tobias took a step closer. "We can talk about this, you know." Another step closer. "I'm young, and I wasn't doing much." Finally he didn't move. "All I was-" then, rather abruptly and mid-sentence, he dissolved into smoke.
Tobias concentrated. In his smoke form he moved much faster, but it took effort to remain together. He felt like if he, for even a second, stopped concentrating, he would dissipate. So he concentrated, and moved right in front of the man. Then he resumed his normal form and exhaled some of the Smoke directly into his face. If it worked, the man would go blank, at least for a little while, and he would take orders from Tobias.
