In universe. Turin's sister Nienor/Niniel fell under a dragon spell and forgot completely who she was for many years, and Turin had never met her before because she hadn't been born yet when he left home at age 8 and never returned.

Game of thrones /A song of is also Dark Fantasy while lord of the rings is High Fantasy.

Game of Thrones is Lord of the Rings written in the U.S. and with an American perspective.

And regarding the LOTR series, maybe it's just me, but this Galadriel looks a lot between Saber and Agrias Oaks.

Ugh, the first look pictures look cheap as hell. Hope that's just an unfortunate marketing choice.

I think someone said and I agree with it...looks really uh clean. It just looks to modern compared to the more dirt and more realistic that the films did. So it looks kinda artificial.

It definitely looks like a completely modernized series, which I hate. Tolkien's world is a medieval fantasy epic. It was not meant to be seen through a modern lens, but to escape into the world of Middle Earth.

Plus all the changes they're making. Like not giving Dwarven women beards and other decisions.

Let's just wait until the trailer comes out before we judge things on context-less screenshots.

Has there been any word on when we should expect a trailer?

Judging by many hate comments in Youtube, it makes me think that if The Movie Trilogy had been released more recently, many would have complained that Eowyn's heavy involvement is the "Woke"'s fault, even though that happened in the book.

Arwen saving Frodo from the Ring Wraiths certainly would.

Trailer's up. Doesn't look bad, so far.

Well the set design certainly feels right for the setting. But I don't know what else to say at this point.

So far what we can tell is indeed that it looks very pretty and very expensive. Trailer's almost all landscape shots, so there's that. As far as individualized characters go, Galadriel and the Harfoot hunters (the guy with the big elk-horn-like wings) look the most striking.

Having watched it a couple of times, the trailer feels... empty? I'm not sure how else to put it. The scenery is amazing, the music seems nice... and that's about it. There was nothing in this trailer that made me go "Awesome, I MUST watch this!" On the other hand, nothing made me go "This looks horrible." or "This is going to be a dumpster fire, I am not watching this trash!", so I guess that's something... Still, the trailer did not leave me feeling excited about the series.

I can't help but think that this series would have been better as its own thing instead of something based on LotR. But I guess Amazon really wanted the brand reconition.

Hmm... To my eye, the teaser seemed... fine. Not enormously exciting, but fine.

And I think that—for me, at least—the problem was that, even for a teaser, I had little idea of who was involved or what was going on. There were just a few people doing a few vaguely-cool-looking things. And perhaps more so, there were few elements that I recognised offhand.

I suspect that a full trailer will give a better impression, one way or another.

As to the earlier matter of characters looking "too clean", I don't think that I mind that—at least thus far.

To my thought, it seems to somewhat fit with the near-mythic age being depicted—a bright age of people "greater" than those of this worn and diminished age; an age more rarefied.

But in that, too, I think that a full trailer will allow me to come to a firmer conclusion.

The second age largely takes place before the apocalypse that the third age is set after, so I expect things to be cleaner and brighter. I like that some of the second age armour on show here seems to have designs remenicant to the swords from the second age the company find in the Hobbit film.

I feel like it's storytelling that things look the way they do, but I understand people who say they just don't like this look.

Regarding the trailer, it has the problem of being real short and showing us a bunch of characters and actors we just don't recognise.

Show off (or at least hint at) Sauron and the forging of the rings of power. That's the bit we know.

It was a trailer. It's usually pretty difficult to tell much about a work's quality from a trailer. It's even hard to tell who is supposed to be Galadriel and Elrond from this one, since neither are the actors from the movies.

I remember the first look we had at Fellowship in 2001 was a whole scene in Balin's Tomb in Moria. That was enough to say "this looks good." This trailer is only enough to say "it looks like it was expensive."

Not to mention a teaser trailer. It's specifically intended to pique interest. We'll probably get more when they actually release a full trailer, probably at Comic Con or something.
