Does anyone know if there is a sort of karma meter for if you play as an honorable samurai or as the ghost and will that impact the story at all?

As someone who liked Sucker Punch's Infamous games, well Ghost of Tsushima definitely looks interesting and I look forward to playing it. Though because I'm kinda cheap, I prefer to buy video games when they drop down to $20 or less rather than $60. How long does it usually take for a relatively new game to get a price cut?

[up][up] Apparently there’s no karma meter from what I hear.

[up][up] Usually depends how well they sell, which influences how long they think they can risk keeping the price high. With High Streets closed and trade ins limited, I reckon physical copies will be main priced for a while; you might see sales if people aren't buying (Money concerns, shipping costs etc) so there may be a flash sale to encourage people to purchase.

Digital tends to be more consistent (On consoles especially) - most games stay full price on the PS store for years.

Reviews are beginning to trickle out, and it's all sounding great. Consensus is Ghosts of Tsushima is probably going to be remembered as the last great game of the PS 4 era.

Having played it for a few hours, it is...pretty good. Nothing blew me away, but nothing took me out of the game, either.

There is a very strong theme of "learning to accept outsiders" which is well executed, but feels unnecessary, I guess.

But if you like block, counter, and attack combat and medieval Japanese aesthetics, you'll like this game.

I've been really enjoying it. Anyone has a favorite side character so far?

Mine hasn't finished downloading so I can't go past the prologue, but I do love how they set you up for a stealth combat tutorial, only for Jin to scoff at the notion of something so dishonorable and proceed to spend the entire prologue taking the loudest approach possible to every situation.

The one thing about this game that bugs me is some notion that what Jin is doing via stealth is dishonorable.

That aside the game looks great but I have wait for more than the prologue. DLing it over wireless net sucks.

[up][up][up] As far as side characters go, Ishikawa stands out for me so far. He's a trolling sensei, as seen when he asks Jin to climb the cliff ledges when going around a hill was just as viable, and he has a good heart despite his strict teaching style. It also helps that he and Masako have dedicated side quests that add to the game's overall plot, meaning we get a lot of time to bond with the two.

Together, we are one.

[up][up][up][up] Well yeah its the honorable warrior mindset where sneak attacks are viewed as cowardly & shit.

Though its not like theres a morality mechanic here like other games.

Also, historically, Samurai were not THAT DUMB. They adopted firearms when the Portuguese began trading; they used actual tactics, ambush warfare and the like. Not so Honour Before Reason.

Though the Japanese media and reviewers seem to love the game. Gonna have to get it, once I get through God of War.

The camera in combat is mildly frustrating at times but the overall swordplay is fun enough.

The game takes place before the adoption of Shinobi Tactics, and were in fact a response to the Mongol's brutality.

Been playing for about an hour, and I really love it. Only problem is the lack of a Lock on, but the normal system works well, and the overall combat itself feels very smooth and strategic.

[up][up][up] The intro scene made me chuckle, though. Khotun Khan's reaction to being challenged to single-combat just boiling down to "Yeah, I'm not stupid. Let's set the guy on fire and move on".

Demon: They were using it well before then. The samurai had no compunction against the use of deception, stealth, subterfuge, spying, assassination, ambush, sabotage, theft, and the usual array of military tactics and tricks in that era. They had a strong preference for one on one combat but they did still fight in large groups just not in orderly formations like the Mongols and their auxiliaries They had plenty of room for bravado and individual feats but they were far from actually calling the common arts of war dishonorable especially when they were seen as a necessity for any given war and when it was ordered by whoever their superior was.
